It's a real company

This company sent me a letter about unclaimed funds. Happily they were correct. I went to moneysmart.gov.au and searched through the ASIC site, then through all the state registries linked from the ASIC site, and found the money. The company was correct down to the cent how much money I was owed from a payment sent to my old address.

I just didn't have to deal with them or give them 20% of the funds, nor share any personal details, because I submitted the claim direct to the state government site and they pay the amount in full - no middleman involved.

But thanks for alerting me.

Glad they sent me a letter otherwise I wouldn't have known I had money to claim - however you can go on moneysmart.gov.au and do it yourself, no need to pay the 20% fee

They also get a bit sassy as you can see from their reply

Hi T. There are 10 government departments in Australia that have unclaimed money. Moneysmart is just one of those and many people have funds with more than 1 department. Each government department has their own very specific requirements. We do this many times a day for the last 13 years whereas the average person will have never done this before. So while it is possible to claim it yourself, it can be problematic. Which is why it pays to use a specialist, like in most things in life.

Nationwide Claims found my PO box from…

Nationwide Claims found my PO box from years back in Karratha.
They contacted my by mail which is serious and rare these days. Usulay its just bills!
I checked if they are real and what they charge.
The 24% was hefty, but they found me and have done the research upfront.
After a phone call I dug up the evidence to double check that its worth my time.
Maurice also pointed out a few other helpful leads.
Companies are not charities and I'm happy to pay a fee for their work.

Thanks Dan for leaving a review on us. To add some detail to your comments, it takes the same amount of work to recover a small amount of money as it does a larger amount. So the percentage is higher when there is a small amount of money involved. To illustrate this, if a client has $8K owing to them, then our fee is 12%. Our fee also includes GST whereas some companies charge this on top. Other companies charge a lower fee but want to be paid upfront, regardless of whether the claim is successful. Whereas we think you should not pay anything unless the claim is successful and you get your money.

20% commission on $2500 seems a bit…

20% commission on $2500 seems a bit much as a senior the extra money would be good.
Also of note their Web page is not secured with HTTPS only HTTP

Others are offering 8% to Senior card holders.

Hi Cliff. If you have had an offer to recover the funds for 8%, then I would suggest that you do your research on them. As far as I am aware, we are the only agent who seeks a rating from our clients. That way you know you are dealing with a reputable agent, not someone who is just having a go.
Thanks for the feedback regarding the website not being secure. The website in fact doesnt gather any information so there is no risk to you however it is good practice to have a padlock on the site so that folks feel better. Thanks for the heads up as our certificate has expired. I have notified the developers to sort this out - Maurice

I was informed l had some lost funds- uncollected dividends.
A very small $ claim with a 24% fee!

The last time l was contacted by a claim service with their fee being only 10%.

The fee an agent will charge is dependent on the amount of money involved. The more money to recover, the smaller the percentage. In your case, we offered to recover a very small amount of money for a higher percentage. This is because typically the work is the same regardless of the amount involved.

We have gone through the process 2-3…

We have gone through the process three times now and, while the process to receive refunds in our personal names was seamless, the ones involving a Trust were more complicated. Particularly in 2021 with Covid-19 lockdowns and regulatory impacts the delays were unpredictable. We couldn't have done this without assistance and we value the persistence, patience, clarity and good communication from Nationwide Claims Service. We have no hesitation recommending them and their services in New Zealand and Australia.

As you have found, Trusts are quite a bit more complicated however as we have been doing this for 14 years now, we have had an enormous amount of experience. It appears that other less experienced agents are staying away from recovering money for trusts, however we believe that if money is owing to you, that you need it back, no matter if it is more work or not. It works.

Definitely a bit dubious at first. But filled in the paperwork, provided the appropriate documents, sent them in. Was kept informed as to progress. And lo and behold a cheque arrived. Simple as. Very pleased.

Out of the Blue

Received a communication re lost monies. I rang Nationwide and discussed the subject. I expanded the search and then waited. Nationwide herded all the relevant authorities et al. Some took their time. I received a handsome cheque for monies that I would not have received without Nationwide's service. Fantastic.
