Client funds withheld without contractual justification
I am extremely dissatisfied with my experience with Optimal Solicitors.
Following the sale of my property, Optimal Solicitors held a service charge retention in their client account. The contract was clear that if audited accounts were not provided within 18 months, the retention could be released to me in full. That 18-month period expired, and no audited accounts were provided.
Despite this, Optimal Solicitors have refused to release my money.
Over a prolonged period, I repeatedly asked them to explain what contractual or legal authority they were relying on to continue holding my funds. They were unable to identify any clause in the contract, any statute, any regulation, or any case law that justified their position.
Instead, I was repeatedly told this was “standard practice”. No explanation was given as to how “practice” overrides the express wording of a contract. Requests for clarification were met with delay, deflection, or repetition of the same unsupported position.
During this time, I was also informed that their conveyancing department had closed, and my matter was being passed between teams. This internal restructuring appeared to cause further delay, but did not change their refusal to release funds they were holding on my behalf.
Even after raising a formal complaint and escalating the matter internally, the funds remain unreleased and no legal justification has yet been provided. I was ultimately left with no option but to escalate the matter to the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
This experience has been stressful, time-consuming, and deeply disappointing. I expected a regulated firm to act in accordance with the contract and to deal properly and transparently with client money. That did not happen.
Based on my experience, I would urge anyone considering using Optimal Solicitors to proceed with caution, particularly where client funds or retentions are involved.

We take any concerns relating to client funds and retentions very seriously. Your complaint was reviewed formally through our internal complaints procedure by our Compliance Officer, with reference to the contract and the agreed retention arrangement.
Once the long-stop period had passed, we contacted the buyer’s solicitors to confirm the position on their side as well. Following their confirmation that the relevant conditions had been met, the retained funds were released.
Because we have confidentiality obligations as a regulated firm, we can’t go into the full case-specific detail in a public forum. However, if there is anything you feel remains unclear after our final response, please reply to our complaints team and we will be happy to clarify within the appropriate channels.

I wholeheartedly advise against this company. There's practically no communication; I have to call or email to get any information! My client is a shah, and it's practically impossible to communicate with him! He doesn't respond to emails. Stay away from this company. Updated 04.03.2026 still no answer from this company!!!

The most stressful and disappointing…
The most stressful and disappointing legal experience I have ever had.
I regret ever instructing Optimal Solicitors. What should have been a straightforward personal injury claim turned into months of delays, poor communication, unanswered emails, and a complete lack of progress.
In fact, in eight months they achieved absolutely nothing. Not a single step forward. Nothing. Zilch. I was left to chase them constantly, and still nothing moved.
Important evidence wasn’t followed up properly, information went missing, and I was left without clear answers or direction. I expected professionalism — what I received instead was confusion, silence and avoidable delay after delay.
My case handler, Shah Uddin, eventually stopped responding altogether, even after multiple formal requests. This left my claim completely stuck and caused significant stress, frustration and disruption to my life.
Because of the way my case has been handled, I am now preparing legal action against Optimal Solicitors to recover the losses and damage caused by their delay and non-responsiveness. No client should ever find themselves in this position.
This entire experience has been deeply upsetting, unnecessarily stressful and professionally unacceptable. I would strongly advise anyone considering this firm to think very carefully. My experience has been nothing short of exhausting, costly and damaging.
Do not touch these.

Awful service
Awful service, they have just added on a extra £500+ worth of fees to my account right before completion of my home, without any prior warning and part of the payment is due to incurred interest accrued since the start of the month - even though I’ve been chasing for completion for over a month now. Awful service and poor communication.

Useless and incompetent people
I truly recommended not to use this company. No contact, no feedback - you need to chase them to make sure your case will be look at. Pretending that they not getting emails, force you to sign documents "against advice" when they saying and advise you not to push case forward! Completely disappointment and a lot of nerves as they are completely useless. I could write much more but I don't want to waste more of my life time to deal with this company.
And yes, I'm sure I'm talking about right company. More than 6 months later they want to pretend they don't know what I'm talking about and remove my comment..

Przestrzegam przed podpisaniem umowy z tą firmą . Sprawa o odszkodowanie za wypadek trwala ponad 4 lata pomimo , ze sprawca odrazu przyznal sie do winy . Firma optimal co pol roku zmieniala prawnika prowadzacego sprawę i kazdy nowo prowadzący żądał tych samych dokumentów i zaświedczeń . Teraz kiedy firma ubezpieczeniowa sprawcy wyplaciła odszkodowanie to Optimal nie chce przekazac pieniędzy osobie , którą reprezentuje firma optimal . Krotko mowiąc firma otrzymala pieniadze za odszkodowanie ale nie chce wyplacic osobie poszkodowanej .

Dziękujemy za podzielenie się swoją opinią. Bardzo nam przykro, że ma Pan poczucie, iż przebieg sprawy i wypłata odszkodowania nie spełniły oczekiwań. Chcielibyśmy wyjaśnić wszystkie wątpliwości jak najszybciej, jednak na podstawie dostępnych informacji nie możemy zidentyfikować tej konkretnej sprawy w naszym systemie.
Pragniemy podkreślić, że każde odszkodowanie otrzymane od strony przeciwnej trafia najpierw na wyodrębniony rachunek powierniczy klienta (tzw. client account). Jest to konto ściśle regulowane przez Solicitors Regulation Authority, corocznie poddawane niezależnemu audytowi. Zgodnie z przepisami środki muszą być przekazywane klientowi niezwłocznie po zaksięgowaniu i tak też postępujemy. Dlatego zakładamy, że może tu chodzić o inne nieporozumienie, które chętnie wyjaśnimy.
