Terrible experience at their charging…

Terrible experience at their charging station at Wheatsheaf Inn, Wolverhampton where I also received a subsequent parking charge notice. This wasn't obvious at all and I'd be surprised if I was the only one disputing this with Osprey and the Premier Park Ltd?!? Osprey are useless and sent a totally inadequate response. Investigation with Trading Stds around this is underway. I wont be using Osprey again and would encourage others to give them a wide birth. Site was also filthy, poorly maintained, litter strewn. I'd give a half star if I could....

They take your money unscupulously

One charge attempted today. The charger stopped charging several times stating the charge was complete when it wasn’t. Each time I had to restart the whole process- using my bank card as the app froze. Each time this company took £45 from my account. So as of today they owe me £135. Is this even legal? I am seriously concerned about the lack of control over these companies.

Hi Ruth. We are sorry for the experience your encountered at one of our Osprey chargers. At the start of a charging session, a £45 pre-authorisation payment is taken to ensure your payment card being used has enough funds to charge. If the card payment reader is tapped more than once, another £45 pre-authorisation payment will be taken as the charger will assume you are a new customer. We are sorry this resulted in multiple £45 charges being taken. Rest assured if no charge took place, all of the pre-authorisation amounts will return back to your bank account shortly. We can confirm that if you do use the Osprey app to charge, only 1 £25 pre-authorisation payment is taken in a 48 hour period which eliminates multiple pre-authorisation amounts being taken. We can only apologise for the inconvenience caused. If you experience any issues charging after 1 x £45 pre-authorisation amount has already been taken, we would suggest calling the helpline number on the charger to ensure the charger is working as expected. Tried 3 different chargers in macdonalds and Carraway in Carmarthen today, not one would connect. Absolutely ridiculous and osprey helpline just rang.

Very bad setup and poor planning

The charging point had disabled debit card charging but to download the app I had to walk out of the car park to get a signal.
I then walked back in to plug in the car and begin charging but then I had no signal. So I went out of the car park to start the charging session but it then would not work and locked the charger to my car.
I phoned your helpline from outside the car park and after about 5 minutes they managed to reset the charger.
It then unlocked from my car and I was able to restart the whole process going out of the car park to use the app and shouting to my wife who was inside the car park next to my car.
The whole process took about 25 minutes and was incredibly stressful.
I am afraid that if we have a choice of chargers in a town then we will not be using yours in future.
We expected that for the price you were charging we would get a superior service. We did not.

Hi Geoff — we’re really sorry for the stressful experience and the time it took to get going. Needing to leave the car park to get a signal, then having the connector lock while the charger was reset, is absolutely not the experience we want at Osprey. Contactless debit/credit payment should be available on our chargers; it sounds like the terminal at this unit was temporarily disabled and the on-site mobile signal made the app a struggle. We’ve raised this for an urgent check so we can (1) re-enable/repair the contactless terminal, (2) review the modem and signal strength at the site, and (3) look at the cable-lock behaviour so a session can’t get stuck in this way. If you can share the site location and charger ID (or your session time and the last 4 digits of the card used / app email) with our 24/7 support team, we’ll investigate your specific session. Scam company! AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

This company is a scam. I was issued with multiple parking fines for using there charging points. I was even scammed by there QR code into downloading malicious software that went into my bank. I've had to cancel all my cards. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

the site/location, date and time
your vehicle registration and any PCN references
a brief description of what happened, plus any photos of the QR code/sticker and the charger ID
For clarity, the official QR codes link to our secure parking partnership site and never ask you to download software. If a rogue QR code has been placed at the site, we’ll remove it immediately and work with the car park operator regarding any parking notices.
Once we have your details, we’ll look into this straight away and come back to you with a resolution.

Very frustrating!!

The charging point was on the ground floor of a multi-storey car park. There was no phone signal and I had to rush in and out of the building several times to get the charging session done. Very frustrating!!! If it was not for the support of a very helpful parking attendant I would have had to go somewhere else.

Sorry for the frustration you experienced. Mobile phone coverage inside multi-storey car parks can vary and, sadly, it’s not something we can control. That said, our chargers should still accept contactless payment (bank card or wallet) even if there’s no signal to use the Osprey app.

Q & A fulfilled.In receipt of my email

In receipt of my email, your staff were quick to respond with an explanation. After another 2 emails sent by me and again quickly responded to, the situation was made clear for me.
As an assist it would help if when contacting your customers , they were informed as to the location of the EV charging point.

Charging on a DC public charging network typically incurs higher costs compared to home charging due to various factors including infrastructure costs and VAT. Currently there is 20% VAT charged on all public charging compared to 5% VAT on home charging. The industry average price stands at 82p/kWh, and at Osprey our price is 82p/kWh. PCN rescinded after Osprey investigation.

Osprey were not aware that Premier Parking were fining people (like me) for using the super chargers at Manor Farm, Rainhill, where parking notices were not displayed. On receiving an unjust PCN, Osprey followed up my protests by sending inspectors to the facility to confirm my assertion about the notices. My PCN was duly rescinded and I believe

Inefficient chargers

Whilst the overall experience was good, the charger used was very inefficient, worst than AC charging. First time using Osprey as I had 25kWh free and needed a top up. I added 25.6kWh to the car, the charger charged me for 32.11kWh that's a 20% efficiency rate. I normally use Tesla chargers and get 5-10% efficiencies. The 82p charge rate actually costs 98p taking into account the inefficiency of their DC charger, good thing I had 25kWh free! I'll unlikely use Osprey again, opting more for the open Tesla charger. I used the 60kW charger at Plough, Lincoln.

EV Charging experience

i put my car on charge and went to McDonald for food. it was saying car will be charge in 45 minutes. ok grate i can have my lunch. after 45 minutes whe i was about to leave found oh for some reason charger stop after 10 minutes charging. i had to unplug and replug it and it waisted my 40 minutes.
on top of that when i tried to retrive my invoice i could not. i had to email Osprey to get my recipts.
10/10 for email response. they not send me only my recipts but they advise me how to download their app for future as its easy to keep records of recipts.

Welcome to Osprey…a parking ticket for your first charge away from home

The Rainhill charging station has only been operational for 2 months and already 5 negative reviews out of 10 for parking fines!!! 50/50. As on this site.
A parking fine…for not scanning a QR code and entering the registration details when this charging station which masquerades as a ‘car park’ (which interestingly doesn’t display parking fees. LOL) captures vehicle registration via ANPR on leaving and exiting the site. The sole purpose of our visit was guess what? To charge the vehicle, not park it. We neither left the car nor the site.
Osprey Charging Network had agreed in writing to request the fine be cancelled, however reneged when it transpired the leasing company had already settled the fine in accordance with lease policy, thus forfeiting the right of the driver to contest the fine!
I will be alerting Martin Lewis and the local MP to this unfair practice.
Please save your meaningless and nauseating apologies.‘This isn’t us, it’s the landowner and parking operator’ routine. ‘It’s to prevent anti-social behaviour and vandalism’ patter.
Drivers are following the listing on Google maps which clearly says ‘Osprey Charging Network’ in good faith to charge their car not park it. By all means have the parking operator fine those who don’t charge their car and use it to park their car. Not paying charging customers!
I am neither interested in how or who you choose to conduct your business with, I just wanted to charge my car!!!
This was the first time we’d charged our EV away from home and the first time we’d used Osprey Charging Network.
Never knowingly again and I’ve made sure 7 people (some local) are aware of the operation you’re running there, so they too don’t fall foul of it. Bad news travels…
A very shortsighted and unprofessional way to conduct business if you ask me.

To clarify, the Rainhill location—like a number of others in our network—is managed by a third-party landowner and their appointed parking management company. While Osprey operates the EV chargers, we are not responsible for setting or enforcing any parking terms or issuing fines. As a gesture of goodwill, we often raise cancellation requests on behalf of our customers where possible. However, once a fine has been paid—particularly when processed by a leasing company in line with their policy—our ability to support an appeal or cancellation becomes very limited. The signage on site is provided and maintained by the parking operator and includes instructions on registering your vehicle. We always recommend checking the signage when arriving at a location to ensure any local parking requirements are met. Only one of 8 osprey chargers working…

Only one of 8 osprey chargers working still in Scunthorpe (was visiting family so needed to charge up to get 80 miles back home). 7 have been broken since April 2025. Terrible service!

Charger wasn’t accepting my card phoned…

Charger wasn’t accepting my card phoned Josh s from Dundee he tried remote start on the charger still didn’t work. I knew of another charger close by and Josh from Dundee going above and beyond stayed on the call while I drove on 1% then I dropped to 0% with 0 miles however made it to the charger car literally shut down next to the charger and he instantly got the remote charger working. Driving a Mach e mustang 2025 plate. Took the risk to find another charger and my guy Josh s from Dundee waited anxiously while I drove. Honestly helped me stay calm. 5+ stars to that one guy.
