I am disappointed that Oxfam have a no dogs policy when these days you can go into the vast majority of shops and cafes .

Cannot really recommend for Black customers. The shop has a racist male staff member who will triple question you over whether you've paid for books after you've paid for them (and asked one female shop assistant to put them by for you). I left them there to further browse the store and buy MORE books. When I went back to the counter, the woman was gone and the man was there. Quizzing me three times as to whether I'd paid for them. He then admitted that a colleague already told them "someone had paid"....the subtext meaning he expected that someone to have been a white person and now he has to suspend belief and question the veracity of what his own colleague has said.
If you try to discuss it with their store manager, he'll do everything to protect "whiteness". You'll hear the hostility in his voice. White people do not want to deal with their own racism. They don't. They want to be racist in peace.
This should not be surprising. Google Oxfam racism for a fuller picture.
Oxfam is a fundamentally dishonest charity leeching off of the suffering of Black and Brown people in the Global South to fund mostly racist white people in shops and racist white INGO's.
They cannot change. Don't give them your money.
In response to Oxfam saying they're committed to being anti racist. They can commit all they want. It's clearly not working

Oxfam does great work.
I am a long standing admirer of all parts of their great work.

Whether it is like this, making an online donation, or visiting their excellent charity shops and buying more biographies and books about history, or jazz and blues CDs, I've been a fan of Oxfam since the Oxford Committee shortened its name in the 1960s.

I try and help, even though I can't always afford it.

My husband has just received, completely out of the blue, emails and letter from Oxfam thanking him for supporting Oxfam. He has not signed up to support them, it is not a charity we would donate to, for various reasons. He has not donated to or purchased from their shops either. The letter is requesting he signs up for Gift Aid on his donations - the ones that he has NOT made.

Wonderful important work by a great charity

They are lovely people who help others in need. Love them as a charity.

I have visited Oxfam shop in New Malden on regular basis and have been impressed with the staff’s altitude, the range of items and the way the shop is run and managed. There is always plenty of good quality items at very fair prices. The shop is always clean and welcoming place.

1st class customer service - very helpful and acted fast

One of the most expensive charity shops in Ely, Cambs but I like to look in all of the local charity shops (approximately 9 of them) I had been in about 8 already with my quiet, well behaved tiny pup and I was carrying her in my arm. Every other charity shop welcomed me and one nice lady even told me I didn't need to carry her. I got inside oxfams door by about 5 feet and was pounced on immediately by a polite apologetic lady stating that I couldn't have the pup in the store even though I was carrying her and she was very quiet. Of course i left immediately and stated my surprise that oxfam was the only charity shop in Ely that had a no dogs policy! I thought the whole of Ely was dog friendly as I even saw dogs in wilko.

I volunteer at Oxfam shop and regularly buy stuff from the shop. Oxfam makes the best out of every last penny they make to do good in this world. The ops budget is incredibly low and all the shops run on 100% unpaid volunteers to guarantee your donation or support for Oxfam only goes to those in need. I'm surprised to see many unhappy customer reviews. Please remember this is a charity and due to the lack of regular full time staff it's normal that many things go wrong. Please be patient and remember, when you shop at Oxfam not only do you get good deals but you also help hungry and sick innocent children and helpless mothers. Be kind
