At the RSPCA, we’re proud to be there for every kind— from pets in need to wild animals who need urgent care. Every day, our dedicated teams work tirelessly to protect animals, prevent cruelty, and offer hope in situations that are often distressing and complex. As a charity, we face difficult decisions about how to use our limited resources, and we must prioritise the most urgent and serious cases of abuse or neglect. This sometimes means we can’t attend every call, no matter how much we wish we could. When we’re unable to be there in person, we’ll help in other ways—offering you support, directing you to organisations that can help fast, and, when it’s safe, empowering you to take an animal to a vet. These shared efforts truly make a difference. We’re incredibly grateful for the kindness, patience, and support shown by the public. Together, we can continue to speak up for animals, protect those in need, and build a better world for every kind.

Is it for the animals or just the money?

I have a great house with a nice garden. I have one dog that is super friendly and loves every animal and human. I applied for a dog. Filled in their endless form. It said, if we don't contacted you assume you have not been successful. What sort of a response is that? I did not get a response in 2 months.

Reported German Shepherds being kept in…

Reported German Shepherds being kept in the back of cramped vans in small cages for more than 24hrs a day in a security firm. Called RSPCA they said as long as they had food & water there's nothing they can do. I think about those 2 dog's every day. That was a year ago. 😔

I am appalled that the RSPCA have a tv…

I am appalled that the RSPCA have a tv advert for help off the public. I rang them 3 times last month to help me re home a pregnant cat she was on her 3rd litter of kittens all within 12 months. My neighbour had abandoned her.
They said they couldn’t help even though she was heavily pregnant and I was feeding her & giving her shelter somewhere warm ! I would have kept her but I have 2 cats and a dog who thinks cats want to play all the time so I was in an impossible situation. I told the RSPCA she was ready to have her kittens and I was worried she would be on the streets when she went into labour. The lady told that happens all the time in the UK were cats are giving birth on the streets. I am disgusted with the reply she gave me.!
They do not deserve any donations. This isn’t the first time I have asked these people for help. I found a kitten in the park under a tree with a little can of cat food at the side of him and when I rang the RSPCA & also the cats protection I was told they could not help. The little kitten still lives with me 3 years on and the pregnant cat is now in a new home and very happy ready to give birth to her kittens very shortly.
I do not know how the RSPCA have got the nerve to ask any of the public for help because when the public need help from them they dismiss any help.

Hi Mich,

Thank you for sharing your concerns. I’m truly sorry to hear that you feel let down after contacting us about the cats you were worried about. We understand how upsetting and frustrating it can be when you report something you’re worried about and feel that nothing was done.

Please know that every report we receive matters to us. As a charity with limited resources, we have to prioritise the most urgent and severe cases of cruelty and neglect. This means there are times when we’re not able to take the action people hope for, even though we’ve carefully assessed the information provided.

That doesn’t mean your reports weren't important — it helps us build a clearer picture of animal welfare issues in local communities, and we’re grateful that you took the time to speak up for an animal in need.

Caring for animals across England and Wales is a huge undertaking, and advertising plays an important role in making that care possible. The vast majority of every pound donated — 81p — goes directly to rescuing, treating, and rehoming vulnerable animals. Last year alone, thanks to supporters like you, we helped tens of thousands of animals in need. Around 18p in every pound is invested in fundraising, including advertising. This funding is essential: without it, we simply couldn’t reach the animals who rely on us or sustain the frontline work our teams carry out every day.

If you'd like to see exactly how donations are used, our annual report is available here: https://www.rspca.org.uk/whatwedo/latest/publications/reports

If you ever have concerns again, please do continue to contact us. We’re here to help, and we truly appreciate your support and compassion for animals.

Best wishes

RSPCA cross lane Wallasey stolen my cat and refuses to return it. And no no RSPCA inspector was in by involved.

Carnt give no stars. RSPCA cross lane Wallasey They took a stray/ free roaming cat. Locked it up. And tried to change it into a house cat. It had been free for years. Never took the cat’s feelings or what it wanted. Into account. At all it’s a long story I’m not going to b repeate again. This poor cat was ripped from all it new and was happy with. It had cat friends that as of today still look for it. All because a member of the public. STOLE it from the street outside its home and took it in as a stray. Cross lane didn’t apply the law animal welfare act act. 2006. Regarding this cat. Nor that it had a keeper/ owner. Just because he wasn’t chipped or had any identification doesn’t mean he had no owner. the Law under animal welfare act 2006. His owner was identified within a day but RSPCA wallasey refused to return it. They lied told lies to cover there actions that they had done. Yes stay away from. Cross lane Wallasey. There bad. And need closing down. The main RSPCA England & Wales are not involved in this case.

Thank you for taking the time to share this. We appreciate you taking the time to highlight these concerns.

Because RSPCA branches are independent charities, we’re not able to look into their enquiries or complaints from the national office so the best way forward is to contact the Wirral & Chester Branch directly.

You can find their contact details here: https://www.rspca.org.uk/local/wirral-and-chester-branch/aboutus/contactus

If you choose to email, adding “For the attention of the Branch Trustees” in the subject line can help your message reach the right people.

Thank you for your review and sharing your concerns about RSPCA Assured. We truly value hearing from people who care deeply about animals.

We have been working to improve farmed animals’ lives for 200 years and we know that change in this area is difficult and it is slow, but we have made a difference to millions of animals’ lives through legislative change.

The difference between minimum UK standards for farm animals and RSPCA Assured standards is huge, and without the scheme, millions of animals on farms right now would have worse lives. However, we agree we need to fundamentally rethink our food system if we are to achieve the seismic change we all want for animals in the future.

We cannot ignore the realities of society as it is now, but we all want change to go further, faster. That is why we continue to drive up standards, why we are campaigning for a significant reduction in the number of animals farmed and the amount of meat, fish, dairy and eggs we eat. We don’t see eye to eye on how to achieve this, but we believe that by setting ourselves against each other, there are no winners.

You can find out more about the standards and the difference they make to millions of farm animals here: https://www.rspcaassured.org.uk/farm-animal-welfare/rspca-welfare-standards/.

Thank you again for raising this with us and for your concern for animal welfare.

Are you kidding me??

Are you kidding me??? 250 dogs rescued from a breeder because ‘ it got out of control’ and ZERO PROSECUTION BROUGHT BY THE RSPCA?! The rspca has always been woeful but this is a new cherry on the cake, how anyone can give money to an ‘animal charity’ that takes zero action after TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY ANIMALS ( DOGs ) HAVE BEEN HORRIBLY NEGLECTED ( intentionally) can not be worth donating to.

Needs shutting down and money going to real animal charities that actually care.

RSPCA response will say they care yet the prof is overwhelmingly against their lip service.

Disgusting

Thank you for your feedback. We understand how frustrating it is to have difficulty speaking to a person, especially when you are trying to reach us for help.

We are actively working to balance the high volume of calls and web chat messages we receive daily with our limited charity resources. The automated system is designed to quickly route urgent animal cruelty reports to dedicated handlers, ensuring those animals in immediate danger receive priority assistance.

We acknowledge that this system is not perfect and can lead to extended hold times and recorded messages for general inquiries. We are continuously reviewing and refining our processes to improve accessibility and make sure everyone can connect with the right support as efficiently as possible.

We’re always looking to improve how we work and we value feedback, even when it’s difficult to hear. If you have reported your concerns to us within the last three months and would like us to review how the case was handled please provide us with further information via our complaints form:

Hi Don,

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns with us. We genuinely appreciate how much you care about the RSPCA and the responsible use of our funds.

We understand why executive pay in charities can raise questions. Our trustees carefully review the CEO’s remuneration to ensure it is fair, proportionate, and aligned with the responsibilities of leading a large, complex organisation that exists to protect and improve animal welfare. This process is guided by independent benchmarking and a strong commitment to transparency.

Your support and trust matter greatly to us, and we’re grateful that you hold us to high standards. If you’d like any further information about how we govern and use our resources, we’d be very happy to help.

We can't give you a time sir.................

Found an injured Tawny owl which I took home & thought it would be a straight forward case of someone coming out to collect it, how wrong I was. I was asked questions & was then told that they couldn't give me a time as they are busy & don't have the staff. Could I leave it in a safe place please, I said no as I live rurally & there are feral cats around, they replied & said could I put a lid over it, to which I repeated my reply. I said due to them not giving me a time could I take it to where I was working half an hr away, no sorry it has to be collected from your address Peter.Have you tried your local vet Peter, yes but they were not interested in helping, ok thanks I'll try some other animal charities. Nobody who I tried got back to me either, the rehabilitation centre in Somerset said it looked like a wing injury & try your local vet ( nothing the matter with his wings ) hell of a diagnosis from 2 photos. The story seems to be here, is take it to the vets so they can put it to sleep, the majority of vets have limited experience with birds of prey by their own experience. Three days on nobody has been in touch with me, the poor thing would have been in a box for all that time, utterly disgusting organisation who actually DON'T GIVE A STUFF......... At the end of the phone call they have the cheek to ask for reviews ..........you couldn't make it up. The owl is currently eating, drinking & pooing, A huge thank you to Julie from Totnes Rare Breeds , who's advice , caring manner & offer to take the owl on after easter if required has restored my faith in the human race. What the hell has happened to the RSPCA ? no point at all in contacting them. I will never ever donate to this organisation ever again, there is a lot of more worthwhile animal charities out there.

Congratulations

At this point just shut your organisation down. You are no longer qualified to call yourself ‘a charity for protecting and caring animals’, doesn’t even deserved to have ‘Royal’ in your name’. Phoned the hotline wanting support regarding a sick stray and not only got bombarded by donation messages, which is the only thing spca cared about, but received the response of the year from the phone operator as quoted ‘you only called because you don’t want to pay vet money to heal the cat’. without even understanding the full story. What an answer that was, doesn’t even have the basic human decency. This organisation is a national disgrace. Branding spca a clown show would make much reasonable sense than ‘charity’.

If I could give minus stars I would

If I could give minus stars I would.
Shocking shocking organisation that truly do not care about animals. It’s all about MONEY.

A poor dog has been left in an abandoned crack house that the police raided and boarded up, for 6 DAYS so far with no food or water. 6 DAYS!! And counting.
The RSPCA and police were called numerous times since the day after the raid when neighbours realised the dog was left in there. They did NOTHING. Finally after 3 days the RSPCA came and put a tape over the door to “ see if anyone’s attending to the dog”. That was 3 days ago and the seal has not been broken ( the tenant is not coming back) and STILL today they won’t rescue the dog. When asked when they are going to get the dog out they said another 48 hours, The RSPCA lady actually scoffed and said “ it might even be longer! The dogs barking so it’s still alive “.
She was aggressive, rude, confrontational, defensive and told me to “ go away “.

Today the police contacted the RSPCA and asked them to meet them at the house with a view to doing something. The RSPCAs reply? “ we are too busy, and under staffed “. So too bad poor little Frenchie , you’ll be left to starve to death in a crack den all alone.

You could have saved this sweet little dog. But you refused. Shane on you. I will tell everyone and anyone just how vile you are. Animal welfare?? My ass!! It takes a special kind of cruel to treat an animal this way, and there is non crueler than a group of narcissistic people

The dog will probably be dead soon, it’s already thin and abused, and they are prepared to leave it suffering for at least another 48 hours!?

I thought that was illegal?! It’ll be over a week by then and they could not care less.
