Queens Hospital Romford. Problems with booking hospitsl transport…
I would had done this review on the hospital link but it kept timing out .My mum is 95 years old, she was recently taken into A&E by ambulance. As far as im aware she was treated well and we have no complaints. BUT... the following day she was discharge just before lunch. The doctor told her transport had been booked. I was at home waiting for her. At 4pm i phoned only to be told that no transport had been booked for her. Mum finally arrived home at 9:30pm, very tired and upset. A week later she had a appointment to check her pacemaker. The nurse in the ward assured her that transport was booked and her own gp surgery confirmed this. The trsnsport did not arrive. After phoning a car arrived for her but no one had informed the driver that mums mobility is poor. The driver had to almost lift her in and out of the car. Not very dignified for a 95 year old lady. The actual appointment was good,no complaints. Mum has used hospital transport before and had no problems and the staff are helpful and kind. It seems the problem this time was in the booking. Mum is registered housebound as i cant not fit her wheelchair in my car and she can not walk far
Service Improvement
I am a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Maidstone Hospital. As a Service user to our local Tertiary Specialist provider, QVH must streamline its referral system. Unlike the Neurosurgical Service provided by Kings College Hospital where the referral is based online and does not involve any lenghthy phone conversations.
If I have done a TRIPS referral, I do not understand why I still need to phone and talk to the Trauma Coordinator.
I work in a busy ED and it is very inefficient for me to keep myself tied up for a phone discussion when after several minutes to be to told that the Registrar will review the referral and contact the patient directly.
QVH needs to employ more than one telephonist in your switchboard especially on a busy Monday morning when several emergency departments are trying to make referrals.
As a Tertiary Centre QVH has failed to see how difficult the process of making a referral by its service users.
I wonder if QVH has done any user feedback excercise to streamline this archaic un-customer friendly referral system.
The Queen Victoria has in the face of…
The Queen Victoria has in the face of cost cuts, long waiting lists, strikes and the general run down of the NHS, managed to maintain and continued to deliver the most incredible service to its patients.
I’m old enough (70) to remember when we were rightly proud of the NHS, the RVH has maintained if not improved on those standards, my heartfelt thanks to all the RVH you’re simply the best😁

Trying to cancel an appointment at QVH for the cornea plastic clinic for 3 days now. No one answers. Got through to someone on switchboard she told me try in morning. said I have at 2 mins past 8. she told me they not open at that time. my letter says 8-- 4 OPEN and she was quite rude & very ubrupt
Everything first class from initial…
Everything first class from initial consultation to getting an appointment and subsequent surgery in the plastic surgery specialism.
The highlight was the friendliness and consideration given by staff on the day with the surgeon who operated in particular having an outstanding manner. Cant vouch for quality of the surgery as only just been performed but I felt confident in his ability.

Queen Victoria Sleep Disorder Unit
Amazing levels of service and support. The friendliness and efficiency of the Reception staff and the Technical support dept displays a quality of well trained, enthusiastic and knowledgeable key members of the team.
Disgusting consultant
Saw a Mr thickenough or tickanus a few weeks ago at darenth valley hospital, disgusting individual who told me if I have problems after the surgery I did not consent to and has left me with partial amputation of my finger then I should see a psychiatrist, how about you cretinous halfwit you talk to the patients and tell them what is involved in the surgery and possible outcomes and risks ,as you admitted to me you don't talk to the patient before performing this procedure, just another consultant with a personality defect

Throat operation.
I had an operation to dilate a narrowing in my throat which was preventing food ingestion after chemo and radiotherapy treatment for cancer last year. I received excellent care from all in the ENT department and on the ward whilst awaiting discharge after the surgery. Thank you.
Access to clinical notes for supporting patients with chronic conditions
Very happy so far with the support that we get for Dad.
However, the hospital seems to prefer email and physical mail in communicating with its patients rather than using its ‘My Health and Care Record’ (PKB). This is frustrating for a family that is trying to help Dad get the most out of his care.
The online record basically stores (most but not all) appointments (e.g. not the physiotherapy appointments) and test results. However, no outcome letters are available following an appointment.
In the NHS app, we have access to clinical notes when my Dad sees the GP (even though this is using clinical acronyms and abbreviations, these are easily interpreted).
My brother and I are actively involved in supporting Dad but having all the notes in one electronic place would really help in coordination (between us as a family and also with the different specialties). Dad has a chronic disease so this is especially important.

I could not believe the negative…
I could not believe the negative reviews posted on Trustpilot. I have received nothing but excellent service & treatment at QVH. The staff are so friendly & accommodating. I've noticed reviews criticising waiting times at clinic appointments. Unfortunately this is a way of life nowadays with our overstretched, underfunded & understaffed NHS. You just have to grit your teeth & accept that the clinic will be running at least an hour late from your appointment time. Take a book or a newspaper & complete all the crosswords as I did last Thursday - makes the time go quickly when you're scratching your head & memory for that one elusive answer to complete the crossword.
So far I've had two Ptosis surgeries - thank you Mr. Litwin & I'm currently under the care of Mr. Teo in the plastic surgery dept. Both surgeons & their respective teams are so caring & friendly.
Special mention to the radiologists Jo, Nic & Lauren in the MRI scanner who put you at your ease & seem to be always on time with their appointments - well done ladies.
Orthodontic appointment
Orthodontic appointment for sleep splint wax bite impression. The nurse made too much and it was too thin. The doctor didn’t tell her to start again. The result was I gagged which was very upsetting and uncomfortable.
I had to come back the following week to have them redone because the lab rejected them. I don’t live locally and it was an expensive journey which could have been avoided if they had done a professional job, disgusting.
Good
I have attended this hospital 3 times recently once for a day surgery op and 2 follow ups. The operation ran smoothly and I was kept informed at all times. The 2 follow ups have been punctual and all staff have been knowledgeable efficient and polite.
Thankyou.
Went to the minor injuries unit
Went to the minor injuries unit. They were fast, efficient, caring and helpful. Super impressed.
This hospital has caused severe trauma…
This hospital has caused severe trauma to my mental well-being, and severe anxiety, and trust issues with hospitals in general.
Over the years I have had to have checkups because I have a complicated eye disease.
I need to be seen every few months to get readings, and scans for my eyes, because of my changing corneas to have contacts fitted, etc.
This hospital is untrustworthy and neglectful, for the following reasons…
- Constantly changing my appointments, time and dates.
-Constant cancellations without notice…
-False promises and hopes for my eye treatment over the years.
-Rude Staff, and waiting times are severe. Can be waiting up to 3 to 4 hours at a time.
- Bring up concerns with eye discussion, they will ignore it, especially their management when raise a concern.
Overall negative experience, and anyone with eye problems who get referred here, please go somewhere else, as you will be constantly messed around with them randomly changing your appointments for no reason or explanation.
Just a rude practice and I will not be returning. Overall just neglectful.
Due to all above my eye sight has deteriorated badly over the years.
-Also taken them months to find a new contact lens dispenser person, which is concerning for people needing contacts. All they said was to be referred somewhere else from your GP.
And rudely their reception staff even told me to go private! Was like I can’t afford that! So rude for them to even bring that up to a patient on the NHS, especially someone vulnerable.
+ Only positivity from that hospital was the contact dispenser, who was so understanding and lovely, but sadly he passed away recently.
Therefore won’t be returning.
