Visited main store in Sheffield to collect 3 locomotives from Anthony who was simply exceptional. Quick, polite and very knowledgeable.

I had a quantity of model railway equipment to dispose of, I sent a list to Rails, they made me an offer which was acceptable, they sent me pre paid labels, I sent the parcels, Rails checked the goods and made payment. No fuss just good, prompt service. I would reccomend Rails as a good company to deal with.

I have been dealing with Rails for many years and always been very satisfied. I am now of an age when I have decided to thin out my collection and just cant be bothered with multiple items on an online auction.
Rails have always given me a good price, bearing in mind there are no auction fees, paypal charges or postal costs. Their system is so simple with their vast database to help identify items if needed and once an agreed figure is decided, payment is immediate direct into the bank.
On top of that, the staff at Rails are friendly and helpful and always give the impression that they want your business. Highly recommended!

I asked for valuation on 4 items,all that these asked was did they have original boxes,which they did.They offered me £190.When I sent them the offer dropped to £125 their response was they had mistakenly taken the Hornby terrier as a new model assumingly.I might not have accepted the second valuation,but had already sent them but didn't want them returned.So not happy.

Sold a number of items the whole process was easy and quick all made better by staff member Matt. He kept me updated at each stage. Would highly recommend.

As a collector I visited the Sheffield stores several times and was always impressed with their knowledge and welcome. So, when the time came to “de-collect” they were my first thought as a place to sell my N gauge items. I actually took several quotes and theirs was the best by more than £100.

I recently sold a collection of N gauge locomotives and rolling stock to Rails of Sheffield, and the whole experience was completely faultless.
I emailed them a list of my items on Monday morning and received a prompt, very fair quote. Once we agreed on the price, they provided a prepaid postage label, which made sending everything off completely effortless. I just printed the label out, popped the parcel down to my local post office that afternoon, and away it went.
Their communication was first-class throughout, with quick, helpful replies to all my emails. Best of all, the money was in my account today—just two days after posting the parcel.
It is rare to come across such efficient, honest, and reliable service these days. I was delighted with the price I got and how smoothly everything was handled. I would thoroughly recommend Rails of Sheffield to anyone thinking of selling their model railway collection!

After my dad passed away in the summer, we were left with a lot of die-cast models and model railway items that we didn’t know what to do with. The RoS website was easy to navigate and with their comprehensive lists I was able to find all of the items I had. Ben came back to me the next day with a very fair offer. Ben sent labels, I packed the boxes and had them collected. Within three days, Ben confirmed receipt of the boxes and paid exactly what was offered. Very efficient and friendly service and would thoroughly recommend.

They say they operate a simple way of selling your old railway items. I sent in my list expecting a reply in 48 hours, after a week received no reply.

Good and simple communication, replies fast and helpful, was offered a good and fair price for my exchanges and very happy with the service.

I have used Rails since early 1980’s they are a first class. Trustworthy model railway shop, I have bought many new locomotives over the years and they have never let me down, the staff are superb and knowlegable.
I have recently had to sell my collection of locomotives to their secondhand department, they made it very easy from pricing to organising collection a special thanks to Ben and Matt who made it so easy. I hope Rails carry on for many years.

Great when staff go the extra mile

Rails of Shefflied is rated as a reliable and popular UK model railway retailer: I beg to differ on being reliable and providing good customer service.
My recent exprience has left a very bitter taste as to this rating and the customer service provided, as the purchase of a preowned locomotive, through their online shop, was describled as in excellent working order only to find it to be the opposite: not as describe and their testing of such stock inadequate which has left me out of pocket finacially.
So, I would either avoid purchasing preowned stock from them or buy with extreem caution. Making any purchase on the condition of any finacial losses incurred due to their incompetency on testing and assessment of preowned stock their responsiblity. This is because they do not adhere to Consumer Law and by making it part of your contract gives you some protection.
I hope this feedback helps you in your purchase through Rails of Sheffield and protects you as a customer as I found Rails of Sheffield do not want to protect you as a customer.

I read in the review summaries that some "Rails" customers had negative comments to make about occasional delivery delays and lack of communication. When I recently purchased an unusual OO scale locomotive from "Rails" there was a delay in the item being posted, but I soon discovered that the item had been fully tested over a few days by their technicians prior to posting and found wanting. The delay was then caused by "Rails" staff trying everything to satisfy my purchase, rather than take the easy way out and just refunding the money. They understood from emailing me that I was really set on obtaining the item (obsessed was probably a better description 😉😉)so I could complete my extensive Bulleid collection. Long story short, they went the extra mile and came up with a really good compromise after considering a number of complicated options. I have now received the locomotive and couldn't be happier. So, next time something doesn't go right when you order something from "Rails", don't immediately give them a low score and complain. Find out first what had happened and why, then let them work their magic like they did with me. After all, I live nearly 16 thousand kilometres away from Sheffield, and I can't fault their service, or their prices. This is a good example why this hobby needs professional and reliable retailers, not just direct from manufacturer sales.
