Payment upfront on free cancellation policy
Absolutely ridiculous behaver, does not state that you need to pay in-advance when booking hotel, booked through booking.com on free cancellation policy. They give you no warning. If you want to book a hotel do not book through them, absolutely no help whatsoever. I have never ever experienced this and book hotels at least 10 times in one year.

We stayed here during the week of thanksgiving. We reserved two rooms for my family of 5 and everything was fine until the day of checkout.Everything in the room was left as when we arrived. After looking at my receipt from the stay I saw charges for “other fees” everyday of our reservation. It was never disclosed that there were any other fees and or tax that needed to be paid, since I paid through a third party.
I reached out to the third party and Sonder regarding the charge. They were both unaware of what the charge was for and had to “look into charges further” After doing their research they said the “other fees” charged over the course of our reservation was for a damaged chair. They claimed that we had broken a chair even though we never used the chairs or dining table the entire stay. It took them 3 days to furnish pictures of the damages and then the picture they sent was neither dated or time stamped. The image shows cracked/chipped/worn wood for which used worn furniture would look. The charges for this chipped wood leg is $172 that they refuse to refund.
Literal fraud. Stay at your own risk!!!

Stayed in an apartment in London in august 2022 - summer during a heat wave
We booked an apartment which advertised a kitchenette, bedroom and separate lounge room.
When we arrived, we had been put into a different apartment than advertised. It had no separate lounge area, and I could reach the kitchenette whilst lying in bed. The room did not even have 2 chairs (the booking was for 2 people) They only supplied, 1 cup, 1 bowl, 1 plate. Even though the booking was for 2 people and the room was advertised for 2 people.
There was construction on the building which we were not notified of when we booked, with scaffolding surrounding the building and men working from 7am, meaning we would not open the 1 window or blind on the one window in the room. It was also the middle of summer in London during a heat wave and no aircon in the room.
Made MANY attempts to contact sonder, who refused to do anything helpful about the situation and said they post photos of rooms that look “similar” to what the room will actually be.
We did not receive a refund, and once our booking period was finished, never heard back from Sonder at all despite multiple email attempts.
Completely unacceptable. Would never book with Sonder again
Toenails and Dandruff - A Night at Sonder
Sonder is an experience to be avoided at all costs. I would consider this company’s business practices to be arguably fraudulent as a matter of practice.
I am not a picky guest by any means. I understand that no experience is perfect. However, when I first moved into my room, there was a loud, very audible rattling and rumbling from the ceiling. I asked for assistance from their app and to their credit I was moved to a new room expeditiously. That’s when things got really weird.
In my new room, my bed frame was covered with a layer of what appeared to be skin flakes or dandruff. In addition, there were toenails on the bathroom floor and broken fixtures. There was loud banging and hammering all night long from inside the building that kept us awake with no sleep, forcing us to cancel our breakfast plans as we were exhausted. Even with earplugs, there were strange rumbles and shaking. There were also mysterious white stains on a chair in the room.
Additionally, we discovered after checking in that the hot water to the entire building would be off from 730 AM to 330 the next day. We learned this from a maintenance worker in passing. Nowhere was this communicated by Sonder in email, app or any form of communication.
It’s unfortunate to say this but this is the worst vacation stay experience I’ve ever had. I don’t leave one star reviews as a matter of habit, this may be the only one I’ve ever felt compelled to make.
I would urge anybody looking for a vacation stay to avoid this place. Looks like they use slick websites with slick photos to market their rooms, but the actual experience is far from that.
It is worth noting that Sonder has a F rating by the Better Business Bureau! Unfortunately I discovered this after my bad experience.
Their staff was very kind on the phone and in the hotel, but I get the impression they are regularly forced to deal with the consequences of the company’s questionable practices. They were doing their very best with was clearly a very disorganized operation.
Charged more than told over phone
Got given credit for an issue during a previous stay. Used that credit, but couldn't use it online so had to book over the phone. Was told remaining amount after credit would be 38p, have been charged £41 as the credit wasn't as much as I was told (due to $ to £ conversion) even though I double checked.
Even upsold me flexible booking because I was told the full cost would be covered by the credit. Won't refund me the £41, and also took payment over the phone so no record. Explicitly told me they were taking payment of 38p but actually took £41.
Sonder the Henry - chambre 202 expérience horrible
Nous avons séjourné dans l'hôtel Sonder the Henry à Londres, dans la chambre 202. Celle-ci est située au dessus d'une voie de chemin de fer, qui n’apparaît pas sur le plan ni les photos de l'hôtel, donc aucun moyen de le savoir car l'hôtel ne prévient pas de cette situation. Aucune isolation, le bruit des trains circulant jusque tard la nuit nous a empêché de dormir (pause des trains de 2/3h à 5h du matin). La chambre est très petite (contrairement à ce que laisse penser le hall en arrivant), et le lit également. La literie n'était pas très confortable. La salle de bain et l'emplacement étaient bien cependant, mais je déconseille vivement de séjourner dans cette chambre à tout le moins. Renseignez-vous bien en avance si vous êtes côté chemin de fer et annulez votre réservation si c'est le cas car le bruit (même avec des boules quies) est vraiment insupportable !
Do NOT book with Sonder
On October 14th, my girlfriend and I booked a Dublin apartment with Sonder for the dates between the November 9th and 13th, and on the 9th, day of the flight to Dublin, we saw that our accounts had been BLOCKED. We didn't receive any notification of this happening and after reaching Customer Support, we were told our booking was CANCELLED and there was NOTHING they could do, we had to book something else. We arrived Dublin at around midnight without a place to stay, even though we did the whole booking process correctly.

Horrible experience across the board. Poor customer service, location was sub par, and then was charged a RIDICULOUS cleaning fee which I have NEVER been charged for the 3 decades of being an avid traveler. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!

After going through the identification process (there were multiple steps multiple times),
they decided to put an additional $150 hold on my credit card a week BEFORE I even got checked it into the hotel (not to mention I already paid for the room months in advance). I ended up getting Covid & cancelled & was told I would not get any type of refund or even get a credit towards my next Sonder stay. However, by reading all the VERY poor reviews, I'm kind of glad it didn't happen. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!! SHAME ON YOU SONDER!! YOU SHOULD NOT BE IN BUSINESS!!!

Quite possibly the worst booking I've ever made. I stayed at a Sonder in New Orleans in the central business district. Upon arrival, the building was surrounded by fire trucks, and the building clearly looked run down to the extent that my Uber driver asked if it was safe to leave me there. Upon entering the building, the security guard checked me in referencing that a group of people were stuck in the elevators, almost laughing about the situation. When I got into my room it was immediately clear that Sonder have been engaging in false advertising. The room was so outdated, and the floor in the kitchen was peeling away. The bathroom cabinets had several holes in them and the sheets were stained. It was not the room that I had been sold online. Regardless, it was going to be too expensive to stay in a different hotel so I decided to stick it out. This was until night two, when I came home and again, couldn't get up to my room as the elevators were out. When I tried to go up the stairs, the front desk person said they would have to come with me as homeless people often break into the stairs and it is unsafe. This was incredibly, incredibly alarming to hear as the stairs lead directly to the accommodation floors. So in short, not only is the building inadequately looked after from a maintenance and security perspective, but the rooms are also completely different (and not nice) compared to those advertised on the website. When my husband tried calling Sonder the next day (I decided to check out in the morning due to safety concerns), he was told that I should have called Sonder directly on the second night and they would have moved me to a new room. When a person is in fear of their safety, often the last thing they try and do is draw attention to that fact, and now Sonder are refusing to compensate me for the two nights I spent in the falsely advertised apartment. Please - just don't bother wasting your money on this company.

I strongly recommend avoiding Sonder. I will never use them again.I booked a room for 2 nights assuming it worked like a hotel. I booked through Expedia. I received an email to verify early on. I verified. Then I received 4 separate emails with links to verify again. I entered all the information requested and at step 3 (cc info, that sonder already had), the digital process would not let me continue, and said if I had any trouble call customer service, nearly an hour later after I was told repeatedly that they needed my cc info, which I tried to offer, they managed to get me verified, telling me they already had this information through Expedia. They have more than enough information to commit identity theft, and based on my experience, they are not trustworthy. I was lied to about being told they just needed my cc info. You have to wonder why a company would lie to you and then ask for more information through which they could commit identity theft. I will be watching carefully, and report them to the police should I find identity theft anytim soon. I should have just cancelled and booked at the Marriott.
The behavior of the company is appalling
The behavior of the company is borderline fraudolent. They cancelled my booking due to credit card payment issues. Then, after I quickly booked a replacement hotel (all hotel prices had already increased considerably since my original booking), they proceeded to charge the cost of the original stay to my credit card, without my authorization. Sonder then kept answering that the booking was still valid for them, and that no refund would be possible.

Nous avons séjourné en Octobre 2023 au Sonder rue saint Dénis à Montréal. Dans l’Ensemble c’est bien mais avec un peu plus de propreté dans la salle de bain ce serait mieux. La literie était bonne.
Un inconvénient lorsque vous prenez un appartement avec deux chambres et cuisine, il n’y a que deux chaises dans la cuisine donc deux personnes sur quatre vont devoir manger debout.
L’emplacement pour visiter Montreal à pied est très bien.

Sonder Rideau Ottawa
I recently stayed in the Sonder Rideau in Ottawa, Ontario with my daughter and infant grandson. The room looked appealing, although, it had many flaws. The air conditioning never worked properly. It was 32C outside, and although we had the thermostat set to about 20C, it was hot and humid in the room. The hallways and lobby, however, were comfortably cool. The internet service was spotty at best. Of course, according to Malek Chaar, the "Hospitality Supervisor", this was due to Rogers, not the hotel.
And, she blamed the maintenance department for the air conditioning, not the hotel. Absolutely, no compensation for the "inconvenience" of the AC or the internet, or the microwave that worked for 3 seconds at a time, or the TV were you could not add your own apps to watch what you wanted to watch.
I do not think I will ever stay in this place again.
Ants in the bed
I spent most of the last night of my stay trying to send them video clips of ants in the bed and on the bedroom floor. We also spent some time killing them and decided to sleep on the couch for fear of being bitten by them in the bed. They were supposed to have sent someone over at 9am the next morning but they never showed and when they finally got around to this issue, I was compensated with a measly $50.
Obviously this is not the customer service I was used to. In the past, anytime there was an issue, representatives were quick to resolve the matter in a way that made me want to remain a customer. This time though, I got the sense they didn't care at all that bugs were in my room and in the bed.

The lack of poor on site support and the room heat did not work. Uncomfortable bed. Would never use this company again. Also tried to get me to use a portable heater which in my opinion is a fire hazard. Ridiculous way to manage a company.

Planed a Romantic stay with my girlfriend!
Was told I could leave my lugagge previous to my stay, and just use my code to get into the building. I walked 25 min from London Waterloo station to leave my luggage but it was not possible! Bad customer service.
My room was not cleaned and ready 4 pm on check in. Called customer service and got cleaning person to fix it, but had to wait on the hallway for 1 full hour! To get it fixed.
The price was 210 € each night!
They gave us a 40€ refund. But that is just a joke when you leave your guest to sit and wait on the hallway for 1 full hour

Terrible check in service, should be a violation of privacy. Poor customer service, poor communication and poor service delivery.
