I purchased a Neo chess board in June 2022. I was told this was the first batch and to expect deliver in November 2022. The set never came. When I saw the “second batch” go on sale prior to Christmas, I contacted them and was told that I could now expect delivery in March 2023. March has come and gone. Still no chess set and no response from the company. DO NOT BUY from this company!

Update June 2023. After sending additional emails to the support team with no response I spent time guessing the email address of the CEO of Square Off. I figured it out and got through to Bhavya Gohil. I sent Bhavya the details, he then told his team to take care of it. Then after a couple more follow up emails from me where i CC'ed Bhavya, I eventually got a replacement board, about a month later. In total it took sending approximately 20 emails to Square Off support and the CEO over the course of 3 months to be sent a replacement.

My new Square Off Neo board worked for 15 minutes then suddenly shut off and would not power on. Recharging the board for 24 hours did not fix the issue.

I reached out to the square of support team and they would not replace my board but rather they wanted to do a video call for me to show them it was broken. The only availability for the call they would give me would be 11pm-7am. The requirement of a video call made no sense due to the simple nature of the problem. I attempted to coordinate a time with the team and they continually ignored me.

It took me sending support team, several more emails giving the team extremely detailed information about every single step I took to try to resolve the issue myself. The team eventually responded a week later saying they would send me a shipping label within 3-4 days to return the product, however, it's been 10 days now and I still have not received a return label. I've sent the team several emails since this time requesting a status of the label, they continue to not respond.

I highly recommend not purchasing any products from square off. I personally will not purchase another product from the company due to the quality control issues and their complete lack of support and unwillingness to replace defective products under warranty.

I will update this review with any updates. If I do not hear back from square off soon I plan to create a video detailing my experience with the company and their product and post it on YouTube. Then this new expensive chess board will be going in the trash.

I repeat my warning about dealing with this "company"

After much hassle they promised a refund but not to source I paid from (as i normal business method of refund). "Refund" was processed as international VISA card that required sign up to unknown site that might have been VISA but just as easily might not. Like I am about to provide personal info to site recommended by ripp-off merchants!

Two weeks later and magically as soon as I posted critical reviews a refund was processed as requested to original funding source. Suddenly it became not so impossible.

My warning stands!

They are the worst! My eleven year old daughter wanted one of these this year. Her birthday is right after Christmas and she got her grandmother to get her one by combining birthday and Christmas. It didn't work correctly, it sometimes can't figure out where it will move a piece whan it removes them from the board and has dragged pieces through the front row of pawns on the side of the board so they have to be reset. It often misreads the square she moved to and captures it from a square she hasn't placed it. There are other problems and they never had ANY intention of making it right.

I called customer service and they kept making excuses about how they would help as soon as they were less busy. As her 30 day return neared we tried to return it but the 30 day return is also a scam.

Now I am making it into a piece of art and will display it at a friend's game store. I have already dissuaded three people from purchasing one of these pieces of crap. My art will be REALLY BAD for their business.

Apparently they can't help me either fix the defective chessboard I have or let me return it because I don't have a relationship with my Mother-in-law but allow my daughter to have one. They could not find the information when I sent a photo of ALL THE INFORMATION (serial number manufacturer date and all that). Stay away!

I purchased the Neo in Febuary... of "LAST YEAR!", and still have not received it, or a refund, or any recompence. And I know there are other customers in here who received there's, despite purchasing them later then myself.

UPDATE: They just issued a refund on or around 4/10/2023, but has not provided recompense for having my money for over a year.

So my position still stands, DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THEM.

Purchased $300 online Sept '22 and told delivery was delayed until March '23.

Updated Feb '23 that delivery would be delayed until June '23.

Updated March '23 (today) that delivery is delayed until Aug '23...NEARLY A FULL YEAR FROM DATE OF PURCHASE!

Demanded cancellation/refund and told refund would be delayed for two weeks. "Square Off" goes by multiple business names and holds an address in DE but is not actually based in the US. They are fakes and frauds.

It actually confirms that you are not a US business as you claim to be elsewhere. I cancelled NINE HOURS EARLIER than your stated time zone, which aligns with Pakistan and not the US. There's a reason that SO many people online are complaining about the same 'taking money not delivering product'.

they claim 2 days delivery on the website, but after you pay, nothing actually moves for 2 days... then they come with the "delay" email.
I replied imediately to cancel and refund... no feedback.
next day I get again email that it will be shipped mid april :))) , from 2 days delivery, to not even shipped in 3 weeks.
I replied again, that I asked for cancellation and refund... no answer of course...
Today I submitted the claim for chargeback to my bank after I saw all the online reviews with everyone getting scammed the same way

DO NOT ORDER - this is the 2nd time I have paid for a board to receive nothing but emails of delays. They do not invest in any stock. They take your money and once they have your money then contact their Chinese or wherever manufacturer to build. I ordered 4 years ago the first time and ended up doing a chargeback after 4 months of no board, thought I’d try again this month as it said delivery on 27th march. Shock horror the day before delivery is due I have the generic “there’s been a delay” email, I have never been given a tracking numbers, therefore, they have never sent the item, meaning the delay is once again them sending stock. It’s a total con. If you don’t believe in your product enough to invest in to actually having stock then give up and move on.

I have the First Chess set and have been very impressed with the quality of the product and how friendly the customer support has been. I recently purchased the more portable version,PRO set and couldn’t wait to show it off at a reunion.(side note) a grandson lost one of my Pawns, and the customer support team has been very quick to respond and get me back in the game. Well done! In a time when “old fashioned “ service is no longer fashionable, this Team coupled service and quality into a great product.

The grand kingdom set is not only slow but mine doesn't work the way it was intended. The pieces move only for a pawn to stick to the moving pieces when they move. The reset pieces only works half the time and slowly one piece at a time. They need to work out the bugs!

Backed the kickstarter for the neo/swap in 2018 - the club package so over $500 USD. Couple years later, demanded payment for duties/taxes, paid this. Another couple years go by and then they demand further payment for shipping. At this point I cancel and ask for a refund - they offer to do via paypal within 30days. 25 days later they try to send me a gift card - this is so bad - tried to contact support but yet to receive a response.

Don’t buy from them. We had an preorder in december 2021 and they cashed the payment of our creditcard en they never deliver!! The customer / email- service is a joke. They’ll say the delivery is delated and they’ll deliver soon ..than close your complaint. They din’t deliver and now I know they won’t! They are thieves and liars.

They publicly replied to my review stating that I am a liar yet have not received any email correspondence with them in regards to my return. Their chat support is a joke and will give you the run around as well.

Still no word on how I can return this. They are trying to run out the clock so I hit the 30 day return window.

If you're looking for a high-quality and technologically advanced chess board, look no further than Square Off. The board's design is matched by its ability to move pieces automatically which allowed me to focus more on strategy and less on manually moving pieces, and its accompanying app lets you play offline against an AI or online with any opponent, choose difficulty levels, and save and analyze games which helped me improve my skills. Overall, it's an innovative and fun way to play chess.

Customer centric approach towards my issue is what has earned them 5 stars from me. Support and the product is absolutely amazing. Would love to see more innovative products from Square off

I have 2 of their products. The Grand Kingdom set which I got all the way back in 2019 as a gift for my nephews and PRO which I got last year. Grand Kingdom set absolutely blows your mind. Looks stunning in the living room and more than handy feature set. Pretty durable too (considering by nephew once stood on it) and yet it works just fine. Not that I recommend this at home. PRO while not as pathbreaking, is definitely better from a chess standpoint. Looking forward to the SWAP.

I was one of the Kickstarter early customers and it has been three years of broken promises and lies. Lost count of the number of times a delivery date was given for it to be pushed months into the future.
They came back to me for more money twice, once was for shipping fees then just now Feb 2023 for postage costs. The pledge has this cost included but they demand payment and threaten holding your device that you paid for three years back.
Latest update says they have 2500 units to send and say all will get their device but there are near 4000 backers! This gives you an idea of the sort of lies they have told us.
They ask you to fill in questionnaires but the link provided goes to a page that demands a passcode. no idea what the code is. Refunds are done via paypal and miss out VAT and interest (by law as they have had my money for three years) and paypal charge a fee to get your money. They seem to want people to cancel as they can then sell your item for more money now. Sickening treatment of the people who paid for the device to exist.
