Squid go doesn't need ice, or to be near a mains socket. These 2 attributes make it much more convenient to use than the competition.

I ordered a Squid Go on the advice of my surgeon in advance of partial knee replacement. Ice and compression seem to be a standard part of the recovery process in America - less so in the UK. Some NHS Trusts supply a basic cryo-system, others don’t. As I was having my procedure done privately it was down to me to choose a product.
There’s loads of options out there and they take a variety of approaches. Some chill water, some require ice, some just provide cold therapy while others also provide compression. Most need plugging in. Some are very cheap, some are very expensive and you’d only ever rent them - not buy. I’d say Squid Go is one of the more expensive cheap options - but given what it offers it’s actually great value.
My surgeon seemed to favour the Squid Go as it provides ice and compression but is also portable. Rather than needing to be plugged in it runs off a rechargeable unit which fits in the palm of your hand. Recharging is via micro usb and a charger is supplied.
There’s also no need for ice or water as it uses gel packs you keep in the freezer. These Velcro inside the corresponding cuff. Simply attach them with the text on the gel pack and cuff both readable and you know they’re properly aligned. The wrap then goes around the corresponding part of your body with a removable hose running from that to the pump unit. You press the metal catches down to remove the hose, and the clips pop
back up when you reattach it.
When ordering you need to decide on a wrap and corresponding gel pack. For a knee there’s a dedicated option, but the leg wrap can also be used. The knee one is easier to apply, especially if you’re struggling to lift your leg, but I’d personally recommend the leg one. It gives the same level of ice / compression as the knee one but also ices above and below the knee. It feels a bit cumbersome at first but you get used to it and the benefits are well worth it.
It’s at this point I should probably mention the outstanding customer service from Terry - the UK distributor. I wasn’t sure which option to go for and Terry was available for help and advice via WhatsApp messages and calls. He clearly believes in the product, knows it inside out, and his service throughout was just outstanding.
Using the device is really easy. Once you’ve got the wrap on, press the power button, use the mode button to choose the level of compression, and press start. The unit will then run for 15 minutes delivering ice and compression. The kit includes a sleeve to wear between the cuff and your skin for protection from the cold.
I’d definitely recommend a second gel pack. One is enough even if you are icing fairly regularly. But two guarantees you’ve always got an ice cold one ready to go. I’ve used mine through the recent heatwave and the reality is the high temperatures slowed down how quickly the packs would re-freeze. With two this wasn’t a problem.
Having used the Squid Go for around three weeks I can’t recommend it enough. It’s not ‘cheap’ but it is very good value compared to lots of the other systems out there. It seems to have worked well for me and I’m confident it’s aided my initial recovery and I can see me continuing to use it. The device is also portable and convenient and that makes a massive difference - especially if you’re just post-op or travelling. The customer service is also outstanding and I think that’s so important when it comes to recommending a product and deciding whether to spend the money. I’m struggling to think of any negatives.
Is there anything I’d change? Some sort of constant indicator when charging would be helpful, although you can turn the unit on to check it’s charging. A battery indicator with a bit more info would also be helpful - although the instructions do explain what the different battery icons mean for charges remaining. So I really am being picky here.
Overall then this is a great device,
and if you’re looking for an ice / compression system (for whatever reason) I can’t recommend it enough. I really don’t think you’ll be disappointed

I’ve used the ankle wrap post achilles op and the knee wrap for meniscus injury over the past 8 months. The cold compression (different levels) really helps reduce swelling and relieve associated pain and is ideal post tennis. Handy to use, neat bag and just chuck the gel pad into the freezer - it stays cold a good while too.

Outstanding. Called Terry on the day of my son’s ACL and came next day. The machine itself is a game changer. Our physio recommended it As he uses it also. 100% brilliant.

This is a brilliant piece of kit that you will never be sorry you bought. As a physio travelling with winter sport athletes, we have had the benefit of having a squid unit for over 10 years. Lightweight for carrying and an impressive amount of compression from the small unit. I prefer the leg cuff to the knee cuff for the knee purely because the ice pack circulates right round the knee. The individual cuffs are interchangeable with the compressive unit. Athletes like the squid post surgery too, at home as it’s so easy to set yourself up - just whip the gel pack out the freezer, place inside the cuff, turn on and away you go. Easy on the move as long as you have access to a freezer. Great for active families!
Terry is great with comms and always ready to help out with answers for any queries. 🤩

I used the Squidgo following my TKR and found it absolutely invaluable. I used it at least four times a day, and it’s easily the best money I’ve spent. It was recommended by my consultant, so I decided to take the plunge—and I’m so glad I did.
Swelling control has been fantastic, it’s really easy to use, the battery life is excellent, and it’s portable so I can move around with it.
Highly recommended.

That’s three weeks we’ve been using the Squid.
Highly impressed and it’s been helping my wife no end.
I must admit putting the knee wrap on is a challenge, my wife couldn’t manage on her own, but I guess the amount of Velcro is necessary given the inflation of the wrap to offer compression.
One thought on the gel pac - could it be split into three and placed in individual pockets on the inside of the wrap?
That would dispense with the need for the fabric sleeve….
All in all, very impressed.
Thanks and regards
John

Fabulous service fabulous product thank you

Great product . It would be better if the leg wrap Velcro was split into 2 or 3 straps .This would make it a lot easier to fit.

I used a squid go on the advice of a friend after knee replacement surgery. It was soothing and easy to use and definitely helped a bit but doesn’t take all swelling away or enable more knee bending. Definitely better than just ice packs alone . It arrived very promptly and the company were very helpful.

From start to finish, the ordering and delivery of the kit was very proficient. My experience was made personal by contact with Terry who is very approachable and easy to contact.
It’s early days yet but the Squid Go system is helping significantly with pain and inflammation in my knee.

What an amazing piece of kit! My surgeon mentioned SQUID GO to me and from my initial contact with Terry and throughout his communication has been outstanding. I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to trial the new hip wrap following my total hip replacement. It is extremely easy to use and has been instrumental in speeding up my recovery, by keeping inflammation at bay and eliminating the need for any pain relief. I’m four weeks post op and already walking 5 miles a day, back on the spin bike and was cleared to drive after only 2 weeks. I feel like I have got my life back again already. I would highly recommend SQUID GO to anyone undergoing a similar procedure. Thank you SO much Terry and SQUID GO.
