tepeo have developed a new breed of boiler that’s redefining home heating, powered by electricity without the cost. Meet the ZEB.

The ZEB is a type of “Heat Battery”. It works by using direct electrical input to ‘charge’ a thermal core; storing heat for when it is needed by the home.

This stored energy is distributed to the home heating system via an air-to-water heat exchanging inside the ZEB, delivering heat to radiators, underfloor heating, or hot water when needed.

The ZEB it intelligently charges during off-peak times – based on the customer’s electricity tariff times and prices (dual rate, triple rate or half-hourly pricing). The ZEB will automatically adjust for changes in weather – charging less during mild weather conditions and more during cold periods.

The ZEB is well worth consideration

For us, the ZEB was much cheaper to install than a replacement oil boiler as the regulations have changed and we would have had to have a new flue or put the boiler outside. After a year, we think running costs are similar to oil. We had one breakdown but Tepeo sent a technician to replace a faulty part the next day. Weekday support is excellent. Delighted we went with a green solution. A heat pump was not suitable for our house. The ZEB is an excellent product and deserves to be much better known.

Really attentive customer service from…

Really attentive customer service from Tepeo. Nothing is too much trouble. We had some questions before and after installation that were all answered very thoroughly. Now that we're used to the ZEB, we have got it set up so that it best suits our needs. Oh, and our cat loves sleeping on it!

Tepeo and Zeb.

The guys at Tepeo and Octopus went above and beyond. A couple of small issues which were rectified immediately. Fantastic!!
The Zeb is slightly more expensive to run than the oil boiler but the pros outweigh the cons.
No smells of oil and quieter and the feel good factor from knowing we're doing a small bit for the environment.
One other plus is the space we gained in the garden where the oil tank was positioned.
Very happy we went with Tepeo.

Tepeo ZEB Review

As a company Tepeo are brilliant, extremely supportive with a really good help desk. Anything they may be able to help with they will, not just the ZEB, the heating system or best electric deal but other areas as well. They monitor the ZEB and keep in touch regularly. They are happy to help fine tune your heating system after an initial familiarisation period.

My ZEB had a computer failure and the support were even prepared to arrange for oil heaters to be supplied late at night if necessary.

The ZEB itself requires more thought to use effectively than a gas combi boiler. You have to understand your houses actual required charging profile to make the most of cheap rate electricity to aim to come out with above 95% charge at the end of the period. When used with Hive you also have to understand the natural temperature gradients in the house as well.

Tepeo have a list of approved installers. One worked hard to understand and install a dual hot water system. All do excellent pipework and system design. "Making good" after installation is reasonable, but could be improved.

Great service!

It's good to know that if there are any problems Tepeo will fix them straight away. This morning our hot water had not heated and there was no sign of life in the ZEB. I messaged Tepeo at 07:30, and had a response at 08:30 to say that an engineer would be with us before midday. Luke arrived at 10:00, quickly diagnosed the problem, and had it all fixed by 11:00. Great service, many thanks!

Tepeo have been absolutely fantastic…

Tepeo have been absolutely fantastic from start to finish! Our contact Adam bent over backwards to find us an installer which wasn't easy as we were the first to install a Tepeo in our county of Cumbria. He held our hand throughout the whole process and made sure we were completely happy. We're chuffed to bits with our new addition to the household and can't wait to tell others all about it. Many many thanks!!

Had ZEB just over a year

Had a ZEB installed just over a year ago so used it through the winter. Much more effective solution for 1960s bungalow than a heat pump in terms of cost and performance. Very pleased.

Our first winter with our ZEB

We have a four bedroom detached 1970s house which isn’t well insulated.

We opted for Tepeo’s ZEB boiler rather than an air source heat pump. The ZEB did not require us to fit larger radiators, it doesn’t need space outside the house and there’s no irritating ‘hum’ as there might be with a heat pump. We fitted a separate intelligent hot water system that doesn’t need the ZEB to heat water in the summer.

Installing the ZEB was really efficient, clean and surprisingly quick. The team disconnected the old boiler and flushed the central heating system on Monday. The ZEB arrived on Tuesday, and by Wednesday afternoon the heating system was reconnected and operational. The boiler is about the size of a washing machine; the white powder coated finish looks good. Our ZEB is in a downstairs shower room, so what little heat is lost from the boiler dissipates into the house and we’ve constructed an airing cupboard and drier rail to fully exploit the warmer environment in the shower room.

We signed up to Tepeo’s on-line monitoring service, which is really good; and their communication and customer care has been excellent too. When we turned on our heating, five months after installation, Tepeo staff first phoned, then emailed, to say they had identified a fault: which wasn’t even with the ZEB, but a flat battery in our room thermostat – the Tepeo team identified it before we did!

The ZEB is a heat battery, which converts electricity to heat when the electricity is cheapest, then stores the heat to use when needed. To fully charge the ZEB requires about 40kw, which takes about 4 hours, if fully discharged. We tried different tariffs and finally opted for one which offers three lower price periods each day. During the coldest weather we fully charge our ZEB in the early hours and top it up during the day if needed.

The ZEB’s phone app makes managing the system very simple. Using our phones, we set the charging schedule, boost charging, set tariffs, holiday dates and monitor when the ZEB is charging or heating our home. But, if one’s phone isn’t to hand, the ZEB has some simple manual controls to boost charging or heating. The limitation is that whilst the app shows the amount of electricity used each day, it doesn’t accumulate a total for a weekly, monthly or annual period.

Once set up, there’s been no need for us to alter settings until the seasons change. Tepeo’s team have emailed us reminders to change settings and reduce cost as the weather gets warmer. They’ve also arranged our annual service for us.

We’ve had our ZEB for operating for 5 months over the winter. Fitting it resulted in very little upheaval. The cost of running it is a little less than running our old oil boiler; the ZEB is a lot less hassle and environmentally much, much friendlier.

Knowledge, passion and improving life's, my dealings with Tepeo.

It was clear very early on how passionate Tepeo are about there product and how it can make a real difference to people life's, from the initial contact, through install and then into aftercare seeing this passion helped confirm I had made the right decision. Adam, Natasha, John, Rob and Tom are all a credit to your company.

I purchased an apartment in a historic lace mill in the heart of Nottingham that sadly had its gas infrastructure decommissioned meaning no hot water and no heating. Heat pumps were not an option as no outside space and an electric boiler system on going costs were very high, the Zeb was the perfect solution. I now have heating, hot water and a power shower when 6 months ago this seemed like a distant dream. The zeb is truly revolutionary and a perfect solution for the decarbonised world we are moving to.

Do not hesitate and contact Tepeo for a discussion, you will not regret it.

Reliable Product & Fantastic Support

We've been promoting and installing Tepeo's Zero Emission Boiler (ZEB) for over two years now, and the feedback from our customers has been overwhelmingly positive. It's a brilliant product that really delivers on performance and sustainability.

From a trade perspective, Tepeo are a pleasure to work with — a friendly and approachable team, always willing to help. Their backup support is excellent, which gives us real confidence when specifying their product. It's great to partner with a company that truly stands behind what they do.

Tepeo - living gas free for ~30 months

I had my Tepeo Zero Emission Boiler (ZEB) installed in my four-bedroom detached home in November 2022, and overall, I’m very pleased with it. My house is at the upper size limit for a ZEB, so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but it has turned out to be a great choice.
The first few months were a bit tricky, as we went straight into a very cold winter. It took some getting used to, due to some peculiarities of my home we found the ground floor wasn’t heating as well as we’d hoped. Tepeo’s team helped us figure out that the ground floor radiators needed upgrading to work better with the ZEB. Once that was done, the system performed much better, and the house has been warm and comfortable since.
I’m extremely happy with the ZEB’s performance now. It’s reliable, and on balance, it’s been a bit cheaper to run than my old gas boiler, which is a nice bonus. I’m also really glad to no longer rely on gas—I even had the gas meter removed, which has saved me a bit more money. It feels good to heat my home in a more eco-friendly way.
Tepeo’s customer service has been excellent throughout. They’ve been helpful and responsive, whether over the phone or during service visits, and I really appreciate their support.
All in all, I’m very satisfied with the Tepeo ZEB. It’s a solid, sustainable heating option, and I’d recommend it to others considering a switch.

3 years of electric heating and working well

I’ve had a ZEB installed for nearly 3 years now making my house completely gas free.

Running a ZEB in place of a boiler is a very different way of heating your house and it does need to be paired with a suitable smart electricity tariffs - so it’s not going to work well everywhere - but for my property and heat use profile it is running at a (small) net saving over using gas and is cheaper than the retrofit that would have been needed for a heat pump setup.

We had a Tepeo installed and it’s been epic so far compared to our old oil boiler, installation took a few days. We need some more time to get a bigger picture of data trends, but so far I can’t fault it. Tepeo are always available to talk and Martin (m4rt) who installed it gave sound advice and got the job done as described.

Called for initial quote for both ZEB/Thermino…

Called for initial quote for both ZEB and Thermino in tandem. Engineer never turned up for survey instead got phone call. Promised a third party would contact me in 24 hours. Never happened. Chased Tepeo for a whole week but they never got back to me and failed to respond to all my phone messages and emails. Finally, after making a complaint the original saleswoman got back to me and promised that they would get on it and would get back to me within the day with a shedule for an inspection/survey and a quote. Nothing happened. 3/4 days later have still heard nothing.
This is strike 3 as far as I'm concerned. I'm going another route now. If this is how bad their sales and pre-install support and service is then I dread to think what their after sales support is like and I don't want to find out.

It is a great product and easy to swap…

It is a great product and easy to swap away from a gas boiler saving us the daily charge for gas at least.

We have a 1980s semi-detached house (which three people live in) that we have completely revamped. The more modern ground floor extensions have 50mm insulation in the walls (well below the present regulations of (100mm). The two storey parts of the house have 25mm insulation (even worse!) We have installed double glazing throughout. Floors are solid concrete and are not insulated (except in the extensions where we have 50mm). It was 'D' rated for it's EPC when we started the renovation. The loft space does have 270mm of insulation so complies to modern regs.

Thus the house does lose heat much more quickly than a modern house through its walls and floors.

The ZEB has a capacity that is only 40kw which means for us that on Octopus (Economy 5 tariff in effect) we need to charge up for 4 hours at the cheap rate (£0.08p/kwhr) (just a bit more expensive than mains gas) between 0030 hours to 0530 hours and then potentially do a top up in the afternoon for maybe a couple of hours at £0.24p/kwhr. This is because at the recent temperatures of -4C to +4C the house needs a bit more heat than 40kwhrs (in fact 48-50kwhrs). The heating goes on at 0600 and off at 0930 hours. It then comes on again at 1200-1330 hours and then again 1800-2200hours. The house throughout remains at 19-20C throughout the day and overnight it drops to about 18C. It has thus been costing a little more than gas, but not, much over these cold periods. In the warmer weather it does not need to charge outside of the cheap rate period.

The house was supposed to cost some £2100 pa to heat and light per the EPC but presently has cost £1900 which I guess it good news. We have certainly saved on the gas fire which was very old and inefficient and the gas boiler which was in the garage and also extremely old. The heat from the unit heats the kitchen a bit especially if we leave the cupboard open.

There is the standing charge of £240/year for servicing and running the system remotely the equivalent of the yearly service from our 'gasman'.

If I were to do anything different it would have been to put more insulation on the walls and accept the reduction in space for the slowing of the loss of heat from the house.

For the future we shall install solar panels to reduce our need for the grid at expensive times and possibly put in a couple of batteries.

The whole system does rely on cheap electricity periods to compete with mains gas of course.

If I could give this zero I would…

If I could give this zero I would personally I would not buy we have to use the log burner for sorce of primary heat . And thinking of going back to oil . So just think twice before spending

Consultation - was indicated I would save money (more on that later).

Installation - The installation was very professional and efficient and they were happy to inform me what they would be doing and then what they had done etc.

Customer Support - The CS team I feel sorry for as they are doing their best but it seems that the communication they have or able to share is lacking.

Listening to Feedback - This has been very poor.
example - launched a new set of colours for the front of the ZEB... when Users have been on Forums and directly emailing asking for a better App and Solar connectivity.

The potential is there but it does seem that Tepeo have no inclination to act on customer feedback.

The App, which was installed on Feb 2023 has not improved - in fact on installation a number of issues/bugs and errors were raised. Features have as a result been removed, but no sense of improving them, adding new features.

Costs - It has massively increased the cost of heating our home. It seems that for some it might reduce it and that was the information we received on consultation... but be warned.. if you buy this to save money from forums most common you break even or you buy it to do your bit for the environment and accept it will cost you more.

We are pleased to hear the installation was professional and efficient, the ease in which people are able to convert to the ZEB is a real plus. Especially in cases where space or home adaptations to allow for heat pumps had not been possible. But not only that, people looking to convert to a cleaner energy source are able to simply do so using their existing heating system set up.

We listen to and track every piece of customer feedback, however as I sure you can understand we have hundreds if not thousands of competing enhancements that have to be managed and prioritised. Some of these changes are visible to our customers and others aren't but they are quietly making a big impact to the ZEB functionality and operations.

The delays to the Solar Diverter release were gutting for the team too so we totally understand your frustration. I can only re-iterate that it is being worked on non stop until we are confident it is releasable. We made the tough decision to delay the release based on some results in testing we weren't happy with - rather this than rolling out a not-fit-for-purpose product.

It will come - we thank you for your patience!

The release of the new colours for the ZEB has no bearing on the release of other product and software enhancements. These objectives are managed by different teams.

Regarding costs, please get in touch to talk through this as we'd be happy to review your tariff, usage and compare to previous bills before owning the ZEB.

It is expected that your electricity bill will increase as this is the primary if not only energy source you are using now but just remember you are no longer paying a gas / oil bill!
