Saltburn by sea
Saltburn by sea, absolutely shocking, 1/10
Portions are stingy.
Avoid!
wagyu rib eye steak
Ordered wagyu rib eye steak. Took 2 hours to arrive and it was ordinary. I’ve had better steaks in the pub. Definitely not wagyu beef. Will not be going back
Where to start…..
Where to start? Absolute appalling experience at the Saltburn seafront. Poorly managed in the extreme, Harsh to say but the waiting staff are oblivious to paying customers. Music more suited to a nightclub and horrendously loud. The food ? Dry and frankly awful. Served a steak without a steak knife. Ordered a peppercorn sauce which was a Diane and as thin and tasteless as water. Had young children their food was undercooked and untouched (not that anyone noticed) I am not a person who complains but honestly save your money and your time and AVOID. Actually this ranks as the worst place I’ve ever eaten. We are locals and tried this when it opened and it was terrible decided to give them the benefit of newness and try again and I’m filled with instant regret. Abysmal.
Never again
First time of eating at a Tomahawk restaurant and never again. Overpriced, dry food. Chicken parmo had no bechemel sauce on under the mountain of grilled cheese slung on top and melted under the broiler. Waygu beef burger as dry as a desert, when should be juicy. Staff oblivious to customers waiting to be seated then after waking them up constant interruptions whilst trying to eat the food. Then to finish off nearly got 3rd degree burns from an Americano coffee that had obviously been left too long before serving so, some bright spark microwaved the contents and the cup and after being served to me couldn't even touch the cup for nearly 3 mins or put it to my lips. If I could give a minus score I would. Eat there at your own choice but not for me or hubby.
Visited the Newcastle restaurant…
Visited the Newcastle restaurant tonight at 5.30 .
Service was ok ,Food was barely warm on arrival but I don’t like to make a scene .
Upon getting the bill we noticed £13 service charge added to the botto
which was optional, I don’t mind leaving a small tip usually but to some of us this is a lot of money , also the fact it’s pretty much forced down your neck doing it this way . We opted not to pay this ! In a very unprofessional manner the staff member who took the payment shouted to the sever THEY ARNT PAYING THE CHARGE ! He asked us if we are sure ?!
On what planet do you find it acceptable for the staff to embarrassingly announce that we aren’t paying the service charge and for them to the question our made decision to not pay. It’s absolutely disgusting thinking that they can speak to customers that way, we would have been more than happy to leave a small tip but not 10% of our bill, perhaps you should change this procedure
5* Tomahawk at Stockton Heath branch for…
Went to the Stockton Heath branch for my Birthday.
The decor and ambience is 5*
Food was delicious
3 couses for £20 was a bargain and still 5*
Table welcomed us with a Birthday Balloon, Birthday card and was followed by glasses if fizz. What a lovely touch that made the experience perfect.
Will definitely be going back, fingers crossed the early bird 3 courses is still on. This is great for those who's finances are a contributing factor.
I'm surprised by some of the low…
I'm surprised by some of the low ratings on here as we had a great time in the Morpeth branch today.
Staff were really nice, efficient, not pushy at all it was a good atmosphere.
Starters were really good. two of us had the chicken mozzarella croquets and one the pork belly. Pork belly a little dry but still nice.
Steaks were perfectly cooked no complaints and the creme Baileys desert was delicious.
I'd definitely go again and to be fair if I'd read the reviews before I went i possibly wouldn't have gone in the first place.
But my experience was that it was really positive and enjoyable.
Drinks at Saltburn…
I visited the Saltburn restaurant yesterday, only for a drink, however I was impressed with the service that I received from Paige, she was friendly and knowledgable and her customer service skills were very good… we were impressed. It’s rare, to receive good customer service these days and she definitely stood out from the rest …
Amazing food at darlington tonight
Amazing food at darlington tonight! Took our 4 kids 2 if whom are autistic and sometimes struggle in restaurants but this place always accommodates. I had the wagyu burger which was cooked to perfection. All the food was piping hot and very well presented. The staff were really pleasant as always . Tonight's had to be our best meal yet!

The 3 for £20 offer not worth half of that.
Went to the Tomahawk in SALTBURN.
I had been recommended top go here buy a friend.
The premises is very nice staff friendly but the food for me was very disappointing.
The size of the portions were to small and the main was meat balls assuming you would get a plate of meatballs.
Well what you get is 4 in total small and over cooked meatballs and chips. The portion is not big enough for a kid let alone an adult. Soft drinks are very expensive at £3.99 for a large coke. Then they have the audacity on the bill to offer you an optional additional payment of 10% towards service charge on top of an already expensive bill. I can say I didn't take the offer up. Would I be going back no the value for money factor does not exist her even with there so called 3 for £20 the meals are so small that you will need all 3 courses to feel somewhat satisfied that you have ate something. Very Disappointed.
Potto was appalling
Booked a room for a cheeky getaway at Potto. There was a deal in for 3 courses for 20 so we booked a table. My wife was choking on a chicken bone and they just stood there and didn’t even offer a glass of water. Starter was tiny and the steak was very tough and gristly. When they asked us how the meal was and we explained the manager said I am fffing sick of this just give them a bottle of wine. We went to the room after as we were appalled and the next room had left their TV on full blast all night (we heard them come in at 5 and eventually turn it off). We then left at 5:30am. Will never return. Did not reply to our email the following day.
Attended the Acklam Hall in…
Attended the Acklam Hall in Middlesbrough Steakhouse
It was a special 3 for £20
Seriously I would not have paid that!! The starter was two spring rolls which were over cooked
The steak came with fries and that was it if you wanted salad greens you were looking at £4.50-£5.50 extra sauces which were awful an extra £3.50 the steak was extremely tough the desserts were even worse!!
The young lady who took our order was pleasant but we waited forever for the food to arrive then my friend stopped a waitress and explained she’d being given the wrong sauce which was meet with a scowl and was never brought a sauce
And the drinks omg £2.50 for sparkling water 2/10 and that was for the young girl who was service with a smile shocking sort it out!!!
The food was delightful
Service was great, food the same. A great place to go out with family and friends totally recommend it.
First thing me ok , probably won’t return.
First time , ok probably won’t return.
We booked for our anniversary, it’s Wednesday night so a nothing night . No atmosphere, staff were average and helpful when asked .They brought main course meals but no cutlery, dessert menu arrived and hadn’t cleared the main course plates felt a bit rushed . If you want people in and out during the week reduce the menu . Food nice nothing special, felt a bit like Spanish tapas £10 dining experience with the £75 per head price tag . Really felt like something was missing, shame really because I was looking forward to dinner at Tomahawks Stockton Heaths restaurant. Probably won’t be going again . 😢
Last visit to tomahawk Darlington
Have been to Tomahawk Steakhouse a few times previously but won’t be going back again. Visited the Darlington branch on Friday night and our meal was terrible. The restaurant shouldn’t take so many bookings if they can’t then deliver decent food. Overcooked calamari starter which the waiter said he ‘would see what he could do about’ but when the bill arrived there had been no price alteration.
Undercooked chips which were worse than McDonald’s. Paid extra for ‘ultimate potatoes’ which were parboiled spuds in cheap cheese sauce with reconstituted bacon bits. The prawns were overcooked and chewy and the steak was average. Not worth the high prices. Disappointing that a previously good restaurant has increased prices and decreased the quality.
Visited Tomahawk Morpeth on the 3/6/23
Visited Tomahawk Morpeth on the 3/6/23. Daughter and son in laws 1st wedding anniversary. Drove from Berwick upon tweed approximately 50mins. Restaurant looked lovely. However going to toilet and having to step back from waiting staff and a little to close to kitchen not good. Food was good, however mac&cheese very stodgy, lemon meringue obviously bought in. For the price disappointing. Biggest bugbear the service charge. Not evident or flagged up. If you are intoxicated or not very observant you would not notice it. Probably leave a tip on top. I had to ask waiter if we were required to pay this. Told no, it was our choice. Very very misleading. I always tip, my choice and the amount I choose usually 10%. But if we had not seen that service charge at the bottom of bill we would have tippef twice. I think this practice should be removed. Very American
The Tomahawk Steakhouse in Saltburn was…
The Tomahawk Steakhouse in Saltburn was excellent and the meal in the restaurant was 10 out of 10. Our waitress was Caitlin and she was a very kind and polite young lady when serving us. We had a beautiful view sat in the glass balcony and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in there. As we left, we decided to have a ice- cream from the ice- cream hut at the entrance to the restaurant and we we served by a very lovely polite and jolly young lady called Nichola Taylor. She was so friendly and polite and definitely a people person a credit to the restaurant. We will most certainly be visiting there again soon.
21’st birthday celebration disaster
21’st birthday celebration disaster - Plates cold, food cold half way through, no one asked if meal OK at anytime, we had to ask for drink replenishment, overcharged on bill had to correct server and ask for refund, explained all above when paying, “sorry” was the response - gave my name and telephone number and asked for representative to call me following day - no call. This was the first time eating here and have looked forward to this for some time based on a friends and family recommendation- what a shame
A rare negative review from me
I really don’t normally leave bad reviews BUT we were so looking forward to having a lovely brunch with my son and his fiancée (newly engaged) and their 15 month old baby. Our booking was for 11am we were greeted then left for a good 10 mins whilst they cleaned the table. The place was full, buzzing and I had a good feel about the place. They seated us then gave us a menu - 40 mins came and went - I waved over and they came and took our order. 20 mins came and went and my husband went to ask about our drinks - another 10 mins passed and we got the drinks - the baby started to cry so my son went out and bought her some food to be snacking on. Imagine our horror when they started to serve the table of approx 12 at the side of us - who had been there a lot longer than we had. We realised that we still had some waiting ahead - we looked around and there was still about 5 tables waiting to be given their food - again we asked and told we were the next ticket - some of the customers around us started to leave without their meals - we stuck it out and eventually served 1.5 hours after our arrival. The explanation was that staff hadn’t turned up in the kitchen - I gave constructive criticism to the waiter to say we should have been given the expectations when we first arrived so we could make a choice to stay or leave. We asked for another round of hot drinks as a goodwill gesture to have with our very late breakfast - they did this for us. The food was good for me and my husband but the bigger breakfast seemed a bit too well done (eggs were hard) - we felt sorry for the staff that were serving us but did think they should’ve kept us informed and offer us drinks whilst waiting - it seems that they didn’t know how to deal with us in the interim - finally after our meal our bill came and they’d taken the cost of all of our drinks off the bill - such a shame, lovely place but it’s prob our first and last visit Bank holiday ruined!
Excessive wait times and poor experience.
Very poor experience & excessive waiting times at the Stockton Heath restaurant. I took my family out for breakfast and we had a 40 minute wait time before we received some basic hot drinks and a further 40 minutes for our food.
My meal was nice but they got my wife’s order wrong and didn’t provide any suitable explanation why her breakfast wrap didn’t have the items it should and had other items in instead..
After waiting further we were advised that our bill would be ‘adjudicated’ for the excessive wait and inconvenience caused. However, when I went to settle up only the drinks had been removed, and the service charge was still present..
I explained that was not really acceptable and I thought they needed to try a lot harder, I was met with “sorry we’re understaffed today” and the full price food bill.
We regularly eat at Tomahawk for steak & burgers but unfortunately today was the last time we will eat there.
