Avoid this company - vouchers can’t be used for what they say they can
Avoid this company
Bought a gift voucher specifically to use on the Caledonian sleeper, which it says on their website is an option. Go to book it and it’s not an option.
I speak to customer service and they start by telling me you can’t book sleeper services. Then they tell me you can’t book more than three months in advance. Neither of these things are in their terms and conditions. Then they tell me they can’t escalate to a manager or offer a refund on the voucher.
They now have a significant amount of my money that they’re telling me I can’t use how their website says I can use it. There are no other train journeys I want to book, it was bought specifically for this purpose as a 50th birthday present.

Traingift bon ontvangen als cadeau. Heel makkelijk in te wisselen via de website. Treinreizen konden gemakkelijk geselecteerd worden op de website en bij betaling moet men juist de code van de bon ingeven. Treintickets werden direct ontvangen via mail.

Double the cost of a normal train ticket - don't waste your money
I am struggling to understand why anyone would use this website. If you book your tickets elsewhere the cost is less than half of that on Traingift. I have been trying to use some vouchers which were bought for my sick and elderly father (which he could not use because his route was not an option) for about six months now and they are utterly useless.
If you book a single ticket then maybe its worth it, but who goes to a destination and doesn't need to return home? Not many people.
The return tickets are double the cost using Traingift.
Not all routes are permitted and so their advertising is completely false.
The website has terrible UX.
The customer service team, knowing full well their vouchers are not at all worth the paper they're printed on are not at all helpful and would not refund the voucher.
I really really would check before you buy and don't fall for this scam!!
Further to the response below, I have tried multiple times to get support manually and the prices are still far more expensive and some routes are simply not available. I also asked for a refund due to routes not being available and they refused to help me and just kept quoting the same template response below.

Schnell und problemlos beim Kauf, schwierig beim Einlösen. Problem am Ende aber gelöst.
Ich habe mich über das Geschenk meiner Mitarbeiter, einen Traingift Gutschein sehr gefreut. Ich fahre sehr gern Bahn. Die Freude wurde abrupt beendet, als ich meine Reise buchen wollte. So einfach der Kauf eines Gutscheins ist, daher auch die vielen positiven Bewertungen, so kompliziert wird es bei der Buchung. Schon die Verbindungssuche war schwierig, ganz normale Städte in Italien, die vom Fernverkehr erreicht werden, sind bei Traingift nicht erreichbar. Also Versuch mit Interrail, um flexibler zu sein. Hier stellte sich heraus, das bestimmte Pässe, vor allem für Senioren, nicht buchbar sind. Auch die Buchungsseite ist dysfunktional. Wenn man hängen bleibt, muss man immer wieder ganz von vorne anfangen usw.. Ich bin ausgesprochen erfahren in der Onlinebuchung von Reisen, dass ist wirklich alles nicht gut gelöst. Ich weiß nicht, wieviele Geschenkgutscheine verfallen oder nicht optimal eingelöst werden können. Die schenkenden geben dafür viel Geld aus. Ich will zwar nicht behaupten, dass das System hat, immerhin ist die Supportseite sehr freundlich, hat aber keine Ahnung, aber sicher bleiben viele Gutscheine uneingelöst. So darf das nicht sein.
Ich habe Ihre Antwort gelesen. Sie verweisen immer auf Ihr Supportteam. Die waren auch nett und freundlich (vielleicht doch KI), können aber auch nichts lösen, was im System nicht richtig angelegt ist. Glauben sie mir, ich plane seit Jahren meine Reisen problemlos über Interrail und DB durch viele Länder. Was mich wirklich ärgert, dass Seniorentickets bei Interrail über Sie nicht buchbar sind. Aber auch eine ganz normale Reise von A nach B muss ganz problemlos von jedem Ort an jeden Ort in Europa buchbar sein. Wenn das nicht möglich ist, müssen Sie das den Käufern von Gutscheinen vorher transparent machen. Ich finde immer Lösungen, aber was machen Leute, die nicht so viel Erfahrung haben und einfach eine Reise mit ihrem Gutschein buchen wollen und dann die Meldung bekommen:"Wir haben keine Verbindung für Sie gefunden"! Diese Verbindungen bei DB und Interrail aber sichtbar sind????
Nach einem etwas längerem komplizierten Process hat Traingift das Problem perfekt gelöst. So muss es sein, ich bin sehr zufrieden.

Prices even with railcards are double…
Prices even with railcards are double what you would pay on train sites. Admin fees are extortionate. You have to pay more to use your gift voucher. There is little or no saving. I bet they don't publish this review.
