Never thought I would be writing this…

Never thought I would be writing this but credit where credit is due. The landlock area behind my house has been cut for the fourth time this morning, since January. It's a pleasure to look out of my back windows now. The one thing that would get that extra * would be clearing up the rubbish from the backs of fences. Well done Vico.

Excellent service.

Had to unfortunately deal with vico homes to end a tenancy due to a sudden bereavement. Their service was exceptional, the young woman I spoke to in Pontefract office was lovely, and we were given plenty of time to empty property and could leave behind anything we didn't want and they would dispose of it, this made a very difficult time more manageable.

There appears to be little consistency in how policy is applied, and communication has often been dismissive and contradictory. Timeframes provided have shifted repeatedly (“4 weeks, 8 weeks, 10 weeks”), only to later be contradicted by external information suggesting significantly longer waits.

A system with a reported waiting list of 27,000 should be held to a high standard of transparency and accountability. From my experience, there is a lack of clear ownership, limited avenues for meaningful complaint, and a tendency toward circular responses rather than resolution.

The impact is not abstract. I have been left sofa surfing after being advised that my name would be added to a tenancy as an “automatic process,” which did not occur. This left me without any protected rights to my home. Since then, I have encountered repeated deflection and a lack of clear answers, with responsibility often redirected rather than addressed.

EDIT 2026 – I have now been on the waiting list for almost four years, previously in Band B. My banding has recently been reduced to Band D despite no material change in my circumstances.

Attempts to seek clarification have been met with generic policy responses, avoidance of specific questions, and unsolicited phone calls that appeared to steer the conversation away from the issues raised. The rationale now given is that I no longer meet local connection criteria — a position that seems to arise directly from the extended period I have remained in housing need without being rehoused.

Rebranding does not address these underlying issues. What is needed is consistency, accountability, and a process that engages meaningfully with individual cases.

I have already raised this matter formally in writing and am currently awaiting a full response to my complaint.

Given the issues I’ve experienced, I would prefer to keep communication in writing so there is a clear and accurate record.

I look forward to your response through the appropriate channels.

14th May 2026 - Generic response letter received with no acknowledgement of any points raised in my complaint, just a reassertion of policy. Further complaint raised about the poor administration , time wasting and lack of care and concern.
