Word Heat Cylinders were establishing in 2008 in the wake of the closures of highly specialized hot water cylinder manufacturers Manchester Coppersmiths and Manchester Calorifiers by a large PLC who acquired both businesses. Since opening we have established ourselves as the specialist cylinder manufacturer in the UK, manufacturing vessels from stainless steel, copper and mild steel up to 8000 litres in capacity. All of our products are designed, manufactured and tested in our purpose built factory in Manchester. Our products are WRAS approved, CE marked and manufactured to be pressure equipment directive compliant.

We purchased a cylinder from this…
We purchased a cylinder from this company 8 years ago with a supposed 25 year warranty unfortunately we have now had to have it replaced, we were led to believe on our first correspondence that we would be credited with this cost and £300 to go towards the installation of the new one. I might add that the cost of the cylinder had gone up 70% in that length of time. We have now been told that this is not covered by our warranty even though the replacement cylinder now has something fitted to help with this problem ( so to me that looks like there was an inherent problem with the initial cylinder). This new cylinder again has a 25 year old warranty that to me although a good selling point to any new buyer is not really the worth the money it is printed on. I have to say I feel like I have been given the runaround by the company as well over the last few weeks and feel that they could have least offered some kind of compensation for this but they offered nothing. I really do hope that I do not have to buy a replacement cylinder from them in the next few years as again I know they will say sorry but this is not covered by our warranty
A reply suggested that the problem was because we were in a rural area and our water came from a Bore hole or private water source, this is incorrect as we are on a mains water supplied by Anglia water.

We are sorry to hear that you remain dissatisfied with the outcome, however we feel it is important to clarify the position, which has been explained in detail through extensive correspondence and multiple phone discussions.
Your cylinder was fully inspected, and we provided a transparent report along with video evidence. This clearly identified that the failure was due to corrosion caused by water conditions, rather than any manufacturing defect.
It is important to note that stainless steel cylinder warranties, across the industry, cover manufacturing defects but do not extend to corrosion resulting from water quality. This is because certain water types, particularly those with aggressive chemical characteristics, are known to be unsuitable for stainless steel if not properly assessed and treated prior to installation.
By way of a simple comparison, most products come with warranties that cover faults in manufacture, not damage caused by external factors or misuse. For example, a car manufacturer provides a warranty, however it would not apply if the wrong fuel is used or the vehicle is damaged through external causes. In the same way, installing a stainless steel cylinder on water that is corrosive to stainless steel, without carrying out suitability checks or preventative measures, falls outside of warranty coverage.
Based on the installation location, which appears to be in a rural area adjacent to a golf course, it is highly likely that the property is either supplied by a private water source, such as a borehole or well, or a localised supply with characteristics outside of typical mains water conditions. These types of water supplies are commonly more aggressive and can lead to corrosion if suitability checks are not carried out.
Regardless of the supply type, it remains the responsibility of the installer or property owner to verify that the water quality is suitable before installation. This requirement is clearly set out in the installation manual, warranty terms, and product labelling.
In addition, the warranty is subject to annual servicing and appropriate maintenance. We have not been provided with evidence that this has been carried out, and routine servicing would typically identify early signs of water-related issues, allowing preventative action to be taken.
Despite the claim falling outside of warranty terms, we acted in good faith by supplying a replacement cylinder fitted with an anode. This is not standard on all units and was included as a preventative measure to help mitigate the effects of aggressive water conditions.
Continuing the earlier comparison, the inclusion of an anode is effectively an added layer of protection to help reduce the impact of unsuitable water conditions. However, if the underlying issue, namely the water quality, is not addressed, this protection is finite and will eventually be exhausted. Without corrective action, the replacement cylinder would be exposed to the same conditions and may also be subject to corrosion over time.
The addition of an anode does not indicate any inherent issue with the original product. It is used where water conditions require additional protection. The fact that the original cylinder operated for approximately eight years under these conditions reflects the durability of the product.
We appreciate that this situation is frustrating, however our position remains consistent with both our warranty terms and standard industry practice. We have responded fully and transparently throughout and have sought to be as helpful as possible. We also retain a full record of this case for any future correspondence relating to this installation.

PROBLEM SOLVING- FIRST CLASS
I contacted them in the first place regarding a problem with my immersion heater via email. Within hours I had a positive response on how I might solve the problem.Also an invitation to call them if I needed further help. I called this morning and spoke to a gentleman called Colin. Couldn't have been more helpful, gave me advice in layman's language that I could understand. Hopefully the problem is solved but if not I know I can call them back for further help & advice.
