Ego-tripping doctor at America's Best in Cary, NC made my vision worse

Most of the staff at the Cary, NC location are very friendly and helpful. The one star review comes from my experience with Dr. Yarborough, the doctor who performed my exams in Cary.

I have been an Eye Club member with America's Best for many years and visited several locations around the country without incident. This recent experience, however, has left me exhausted. My first concern came during my initial exam when the doctor inserted a contact into my eye with his own fingers (no glove, not sure if his hands were washed). I thought that was odd, but I let it roll off my back. Then, while trying to find the right prescription, he wanted to argue with me over the blurriness I experienced in the exam. I came in for this visit because my previous prescription was starting to feel off and wanted it corrected. Dr. Yarborough tried to sell me on an even worse prescription than what I already had. I have no idea why this is the case - ego, some pet theory on how vision works, narcissism - I have no idea. Eventually, I was able to get a pair of sample monthly contacts that worked for me in the end.

One month later, I was set to order contacts based on the prescription I was given, and noticed the Rx looked odd. The correction in my left eye was previously at -1.25 and my right eye was at -1.00. With the new prescription, I should still be at -1.25 in the left, and my right eye (where vision was getting blurrier) at -1.25 now as well. There should also be magnification numbers for multi-focal lenses as that's what I wear. Instead what I saw was just random numbers for correction and no magnification numbers. I thought maybe that was just how it was showing up on my end online. After all, the sample pair worked well. I order the contacts, they arrive, and I cannot see out of them. They were the same blurry prescription he had tried to push on me in the office before giving me the sample pair that worked.

At this point, I call America's Best (national) and ask to return the contacts for a refund. I returned the contacts, but am still waiting for a refund. I call this America's Best location in Cary to try to explain that there is a problem with the prescription. Whoever was answering phones that day seemed pretty annoyed that I would report the prescription was wrong, and I couldn't get a word in edgewise to explain in detail what needed to be corrected. He did say though that he would chat with the doctor and call back in two days. Five days passed with no phone call, but I logged in to my America's Best account on the fifth day and there was a new random prescription for contact lenses. No exam, no discussion, just a new random prescription to make me go away. I called the Cary location again, and this time was scheduled for a follow-up exam later in the week. I went in for the follow-up, saw the same doctor, and once again he wanted to argue over the blurriness I saw rather than taking the time to figure out the correct prescription. There was no exam - just a lot of arguing. Eventually, he gives me a pair of sample contacts to put in with the same wrong prescription, and sends me home. I get home and login to my America's Best account and there is a third random prescription for contacts from the doctor uploaded there.

At this point, I don't think there is any benefit to engaging with this location again because I don't believe the issue will ever get resolved. I am going to have to find another location or another eye care company altogether to get a prescription for contacts that allows me to see. I am back at square one.

My recommendation to anyone considering this America's Best location is to save yourself the time, money, and frustration by going elsewhere. You will leave here seeing worse than you walked in.

Worst experience buying glasses ever

So let me begin by saying my initial appointment was more than three weeks ago. I did not receive my glasses until yesterday. I was never notified once, that my glasses were ready. I was told that they arrived at the store on the 18th, yesterday was the 30th. I went to the store due to nobody contacting me. It took them a really long time to find my glasses. I was on my lunch break and was unable to eat due to the poor customer service.
Two weeks ago we went to pick up my wife’s glasses as we were contacted that they were ready. We had no problem with her glasses. When we went to pick up her glasses I was told my readers were ready. I had ordered two pair. First they were not the frames I picked. Second they had my distance prescription. I told them they were the wrong frames and they just kept insisting they were the right ones. I know what I picked. So I was told they had to be reordered to get the correct lenses. Again this is more than two weeks ago.
Back to yesterday. When I arrived at the store and asked why nobody had contacted me I was lied to. I was told that messages and text messages were left on my phone. There are no messages or texts on my phone. When they finally found my glasses my readers were still the wrong frames. I also paid for the blue lens coating. My wife’s readers have this coating. Neither of my readers have it. So not only was given the wrong frames, I paid for something I didn’t receive. They did not adjust any of the four pair to fit me they just handed them to me and said good day. I was so frustrated I just took my glasses and left. I don’t even want to go back to the store to get the coating on my lenses that I paid for due to not wanting to deal with the people there and I don’t want to wait another three weeks to get them.
I am 49 years old and have been wearing glasses since I was 5. This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had buying glasses. This was the first and last time I will ever step foot in Americas Best again. I will also make sure that everyone I know that wears glasses hears about my experience with Americas Best. Especially paying for something I did not receive.

This place is awful

I am so mad, I went here 2 weeks ago but it was too early for my insurance but I did asked the girl if I get both contact and glasses exam would my insurance cover it she said yes, so today I went in for my appointment of course I waited an hour before being seen but anyway when I checked in I once again asked if my insurance covered both and she said yes, imagine my surprise when I'm charged $55 because it doesn't cover both, charging me for their mistake is wrong needless to say I left with no glasses and will never use nor recommend them ever again and will let all the review sites know exactly how it is there.
Also my exam took all of 5 minutes, they just rush people in and out.

rushed by the technician

rushed by the technician. Contact class, she told me we had an hour, but she kept making faces and trying to get her friends attention at the desk. Ultimately i got frustrated and she told me to just practice at home. Also my wife picked up her frames yesterday and they did not fit correctly, my wife let the same girl know, and the girl got frustrated because she had to fix the frames. That is part of their job. Anyway never again. I am supposed to go back for a follow up but already looking for another optometrist.

Nightmare and worst customer services
My wife and I went to America’s Best Contact & Eyeglasses at 9225 SW Hall Blvd, Tigard, OR 97223 to have new prescription eyeglasses on our appointment at 3 pm on 12/6/2019
We fill up the paperwork, we did the necessary test and exam we choose the frames and everything went good until we reach home.
I received a phone call from the worker who handled our order “Cheney” telling me that our order been canceled once they know that Lines Club will not cover the price that they are looking for and we have to pay few hundreds of dollars the difference in the price or choose another eyeglasses cheaper quality and cheaper price.
I asked the worker to take the issue to her manager she refused saying that she is a member of the management and when I request from her to escalate the issue to her manager then she hangs up the phone on me.
I called back and spoke to her manager but the manager once she knows that we are low income and Lines Club will pay for our eyeglasses she discriminates us forcing us to pay hundreds of dollars for the price difference or get the cheap quality that did not meet our requirement. (We are looking for any simple cheap rimless eyeglasses but they make them not available for low-income people coming through Lines Club).
The manager invited me to go back to the store so she can work with me and explain the issue.
Immediately I went back to the store to find out that the manager just left. She invited me to the store but she lies and once she knows I am on my way she left the store just to give me a more hard time that’s because I am low income and some nonprofit organizations will pay for our eyeglasses.
At the store, I spoke with the female worker that hangs up on me but she threatens me to kick me out of the store if I will keep talking. And ether I chose another cheap eyeglass or leave the store.
When they need the new business from Lines Club they offer variety of a large number of eyeglasses to let customers choose from but after they got that business they will take advantage of the customers who come from Lines Club and limited their choices buy few numbers of eyeglasses and they discriminate the low-income people knowing that they can’t pay for eyeglasses.
I had my worst experience with their customer service. This was a nightmare and horrible management ever I tried.
I hope the top management will investigate this issue and make the right decision about firing the responsible for this issue.

Not good they get you thur the door

Not good they get you thur the door, give you a eye exam and than tell you it will be more? In there great add they say 69.95 two pair of glasses, they don't tell you they well look like coke bottles? Yes they told me after, can't be that bad there just trying to get to spend more? WRONG they were over the top, I felt like I just bought a new car. COMPANIES need to tell the truth right from the start.
