I like using our local Better Gym in Cockermouth. The staff are friendly and helpful and the gym is reasonably well equipped. However the building is beginning to look a bit tired and some of the equipment is also tired and often breaking down. I recently had difficulty contacting Better to restart my account after my evidence for NHS reduction expired. I basically had to start a new account at extra cost. I appreciate that this is a Social Enterprise Scheme and this fact influences my decision to stay with them.

Just moved gyms to Cockermouth from Penrith. Staff were very friendly and helpful, taking the time to make sure I had a full tour of the gym. Lots of rooms and equipment, although some of it seems old and there's only one place to refill water.
Also, there is only one decent mat for core or other workout uses, the others are all tiny and thin and slip on the floor. More good sized and cushioning mats would be appreciated

Had to cancel membership within 24hrs
Bought membership online only to be unable to book an induction for over a month. Should not still be selling memberships if you can’t do timely induction

Hi Olivia,
Thank you for sharing your feedback, and we're truly sorry to hear about your experience. We understand how frustrating it must be to purchase a membership and then face delays with your induction. This certainly isn’t the standard we aim to uphold.
We're currently experiencing higher-than-usual demand, and we're actively working to increase induction availability to better serve new members. That said, we completely agree that timely access is important, and your concerns are valid.
Please reach out to us directly at Customer Servicesso we can look into your specific situation and do our best to assist you with a credit for the time missed. We appreciate your patience and hope to make things right.
Kind regards,
Charmaine

Great experience and amazing value
Recently rejoined after a gap since lockdown. The app makes it so easy to check in and out at the centre, see what’s on and to book classes. In only a couple of weeks I’ve done a range of different activities. They’ve all been great and it’s amazing value for money too.

Friendly & helpful staff & trainers
The people on reception have been really helpful. Classes are good especially Louise and Danielle's classes which are great. A proper pilates class would be good. Also a couple more classes as some always have waiting lists.
Only down side is how busy gym gets & how cold the swimming pool water is.

Thank you very much for your valuable feedback.
We are pleased to learn that our reception team has been supportive and that you have been enjoying the classes, particularly with Louise and Danielle. Your suggestion for the inclusion of a dedicated Pilates class is greatly appreciated, and we will certainly consider it moving forward. We acknowledge your concern regarding class availability, and we will explore options to provide additional classes in order to reduce waiting lists.
