I highly suggest B Futurist to step up their hiring game…
I highly suggest that B Futurist re-evaluates its hiring process and candidate experience.
I applied for one of their positions as someone who has been living in the Netherlands for more than six years, has worked in highly international environments for the past three years, and holds globally recognized English proficiency certifications such as TOEFL and IELTS. I was asked to complete a case assignment and record a video presentation introducing myself and presenting my ideas before even having a single one-on-one conversation with the company, either online or in person. Despite finding this process unusual, I invested the time and effort to complete it professionally.
What disappointed me most was receiving feedback stating that my English was “not at a professional level.” This was particularly surprising considering I completed a Master’s degree in the Netherlands, including writing and defending a thesis entirely in English.
The overall experience felt discouraging and overly focused on criticism rather than evaluating candidates holistically and recognizing their strengths. A modern and people-focused company should prioritize direct human interaction with candidates before requesting lengthy unpaid assignments and recorded presentations.
I genuinely hope B Futurist reflects on how this process may impact applicants. Unfortunately, this experience left me very disappointed, and I hope not to encounter similar hiring practices in future job searches.
