Quality and price no longer related
Wonderfully made shoes almost on a par with Alden’s. My advice would be, however, not to use their website until you know your exact fitting! Their website requires work as it lags behind in quality what it represents. (Sad update 5/2023: Prada-Church’s prices have gone through the roof nonsensically not related to actual quality anymore, hence Cheaney’s and Loake’s much better option for shoe lovers)
Very disappointed indeed with Church's
Very disappointed indeed with Church's. I have been buying Church's shoes for 20 years and then bought a pair of slippers as Christmas present for my elderly father. I discovered months later that he had not worn them - at all - and asked if I could return them. Church's refused because (and they were right about this) the time limit for returns had expired, so no refund nor credit against a future purchase. That is not the sort of approach I would expect from a supposedly top-end business. Premium prices but not premium customer service.
Fabulous Product, Lousy Web Site
Fabulous Product, Fabulous Staff, Lousy Web Site - Way too much heavy-duty pictures makes loading this site feel like pushing a boulder up a steep mountainside. However, if you manage to cope with the lacklustre site and the dyslexic staff, the product is well worth it and if you're in Canada, these are just the shoes you wanted, particularly as the new treaty between Canada and the EU has just been ratified, abolishing the ridiculous punitive Canadian Tariff. These men's shoes are the ones that say more about you than you ever could. They're the ones that will get you that dream job you've always wanted. Don't be afraid to ask, the staff are super-helpful (even if they can't spell to save their lives!).
I will never buy from this company again
I should have read reviews here before deciding to buy shoes online from this company, however as such a well respected brand I didn't feel it was necessary. Lesson learned. Shoes bought as a Christmas gift for my dad - not 100% sure on size but I knew I could exchange if they didn't fit. As I couldn't travel for Christmas to him I decided to just return them with the plan to buy them again closer to the time I could travel and see him. Over 3 months later and I have only now received my refund. Countless calls with Church's customer service who don't seem to have a clue. Shoes eventually picked up several weeks after arranging for this - shoes lost for a time in transit by DHL, then ended up back at my relative's house! (where they had been delivered in the initially as was staying there at the time). New paperwork they sent me not scanning as incorrect. ££ spent on calls to DHL to try rectify. An absolute farce and no goodwill from the company on any potential future purchases (as if, but I would have expected something given the mess it was). Service like this is appalling from any company but when one is spending over £500 for shoes.....diabolical.
The customer service is quite terrible
The customer service is quite terrible. I’m still trying to return a pair of boots (to big). They don’t return emails or respond to phone calls
Don't purchase shoes from this company...
Church's customer service is horrific. Don't purchase from Church's online, ever. I bought a pair of shoes that was too small in size, returned them, and the team refused to accept my return as they found "scratches" on the heels. The shoes were sent back to me - the "scratches" they spoke about I could not have caused as I tried the shoes literally without taking a step, and these scratches could also barely be seen. For a month I haven't heard back from the CS team.
This company just isn't run professionally with a "customer-first" mindset, and I will never purchase from here again.
Great shoes but terrible customer…
Great shoes but terrible customer service. First time I bought online and the product was faulty (first time in 10 pairs) . Tried three times to get DHL to pick them up and they never called. The customer services were not interested and empowered to help. Will never buy on line again. For a premium product it’s a very poor service
I first purchased Church shoes in the 1970's
When I first purchased Church shoes in the early 1970's in London, I did not know how good they were but after wearing them for a year I bought more and more until at one point I had more than twenty pair. I would send them back to the factory to resole and heel and they would come back like new. Rarely did I throw a pair away.
About ten years ago, I noticed that the quality was going down so I quit buying them, but since I already had many pair, I did not care. But recently, I sent a pair back to Chicago to forward to the factory for resoling and heels. Well, after two months they told me my shoes could not be repaired because they were built the old way. I told them to throw them out and I will make do with the dozen pair I own.
What a shame the new owners have lowered the quality and not the price.
Very very good shoes
I have ordered several pairs from Church’s website this year for the first time as my go to retailer stocks many fewer models and colours nowadays. The shoes are top quality only bettered by Edward Green and Gaziano & Girling. I find their leathers better than C&J and their insoles too. E shop was excellent and very efficient with goods arriving very well packaged.
No refund still waiting 6 weeks later
Shoes are good customer service is terrible.
I returned shoes 6 weeks ago and still no refund. I have spent along time on hold and still getting no where.
I think they are basically holding onto customers money..
I wont buy again ever
Good and bad.
Good and bad.
1. Regent Street branch - any chance you could answer your phone when customers call during your working hours (10h10)? Or since you were bought by Prada are you now working to Italian hours?
2. Burlington Arcade branch - Louis thanks for answering your branch's phone and helpfully telling me the cost of a sole replacement, and carefully explaning the process. Great service Louis, Regent Street could learn from you!
Worst customer service
I bought a pair of Church's loafers online at the end of November 2019. They didn't fit well, nor did I think they looked particularly good, so decided to return them. I took them into the store at the Royal Exchange to return them, and was surprised to learn that they could not assist me because they (the physical store and website) are two totally independent entities.
Anyway, I then had to go through the prices of an online refund, including a courier pick up. I was to notify Church's of my request within 14 days (I did) and to arrange the collection within a further 14 days (which was also done in time). The shoes were collected by the courier on 16th December. Since then I had heard nothing from Church's: no confirmation of receipt of the shoes, no confirmation that the refund would go ahead, nothing.
Then, on 3rd January, I called them for an update. Turns out the shoes were received and approved for a refund over a week ago. I was told this was a very important step in the process before a refund can be authorised. When asked when I would have been notified of this important step if I hadn't called today, I was told that it would have been today, incredibly.
The lady I spoke to blamed the delay on the "very many emails" they have received.
The refund could take anywhere between "1 hour and 10 days" to hit my account, meaning it could be fully 6 weeks from initial notification of refund to actually getting the money back.
Don’t waste your money
Poor quality shoes for the price - 7 months of intermittent use in an office environment resulted in a very large hole in one of the shoes. Told that this is simply the expected wear and tear of the shoes and not a product fault - not the best advertisement for luxury goods. Especially when every pair of shoes I’ve ever owned, some at nearly a tenth of the price, lasted for years longer without any similar issue. The Customer service on the back of this hasn’t been great either. Being offered a 30% reduction in a repair cost that’s frankly extortionate on its own isn’t exactly the resolution I was after. Very disappointing and a dissatisfied customer all round.
I keep on buying loafers from Church's…
I keep on buying loafers from Church's and I think I realized the reasoning behind it:
1) The stitching on the leather is pristine;
2) They look absolutely stunning - the artisanal expertise always brings me back to this brand.
