Faulty machine - pay twice or pay the fine.
I received a Parking Charge Notice despite having paid for my parking. I provided full proof of payment, including my bank statement, and only then realised that the ticket machine had printed an incorrect registration showing just the first few digits of my plate. This was clearly a machine error, not a failure to pay.
My only oversight was not noticing the printing fault until the charge notice arrived. It raises a genuine question: what is a customer expected to do when a machine prints the wrong details? Buy a second ticket? Pay twice for the same stay?
Despite submitting clear evidence that payment was made, my appeal was rejected and I was required to pay the fine. It’s disappointing to see that proof of payment carries no weight, and that the focus appears to be on issuing charges rather than acknowledging genuine errors caused by their own equipment.
Appalling company- steer clear
An appalling experience that has left us (like so many) feeling extremely frustrated and unfairly treated. I would strongly advise others to research alternative parking options before using this company’s car parks.
During our visit to the beautiful city of Lincoln, we made two separate payments as we extended our stay. The total amount paid was £13.80, exceeding the advertised 24-hour parking charge of £12.45. Despite this, the company has refused to acknowledge both payments and has rejected our appeal twice, even though it operates an automated vehicle registration recognition system and has photographic evidence.
It is incredibly disappointing that, despite making payments in good faith, we have been issued with a parking charge and left with no satisfactory resolution. It is unfortunate that we chose this car park without researching alternative locations beforehand, as this experience has significantly tainted what should have been a lovely family visit.
I intend to take this matter further, as I firmly believe customers deserve fair treatment and a reasonable explanation when payments have been made. Please think carefully before using this car park.
A £1 toll escalated into a demand for…
A £1 toll escalated into a demand for £176.
As a driver unfamiliar with the area, I did not consider the signage sufficiently clear about the requirement to pay online by midnight the following day. I submitted a detailed appeal explaining the signage problems, but the response simply stated that the signs were clear and did not address the individual points I raised.
The appeal rejection went into my spam folder. When I later received a £176 demand from DCBL, I disputed the debt and requested the evidence relied upon, photographs of the signs and an explanation of the additional £75 recovery charge.
DCBL acknowledged that the debt was disputed but said it would not become involved and would continue acting on its client’s instructions. The Warburton Toll Bridge team did not meaningfully respond and appeared to leave everything to the debt collection company.
I eventually paid to avoid further expense and the stress of possible court proceedings—not because I considered the process fair.
My complaint is not simply that I missed a £1 payment. It is about inadequate communication, a generic appeal rejection, the escalation of £1 to £176, the lack of an accessible independent review and the bridge operator’s failure to take responsibility once the matter was disputed.
Based on my experience, I consider the complaint and recovery process disproportionate, dismissive and extremely stressful.
Disgusting and criminal treatment
Disgusting - when are these parking companies going to be stopped. It’s criminal.
Paid for the toll. Made an error with the reg plate. Sent a very nice letter explaining my mistake and that I’m 81 and recently widowed so trying to handle lots of paperwork and made a mistake. And despite no loss of earnings they rejected the appeal. Just vile.
This company are scammers.
This company charged me £40 for driving into their site, failing to find a suitable parking space and driving out again. At no point did I ‘park’ my vehicle nor get out of it. They are basically scamming people. I would avoid parking at any of their sites. My son paid as my stress levels over this ridiculous experience have made me quite poorly. Avoid
Why is this company still in…
Why is this company still in business!!!
Ripping off people without a care. Had to pay a fine because of a missing digit even though I had proof of payment.
A perfect example why people of the world are so pissed off!!!
Couldn’t give less than one star…
Couldn’t give less than one star unfortunately.
Received a parking ticket in May this year - appealed as we actually had a permit on display which was visible in the evidential photos provided by the parking company.
Took 4 months for them to make a decision ie drop the parking fine, and they didn’t even have the decency to email a confirmation of this. Only found out by logging back in to portal.
You can’t speak to a person. Emails are ignored. They do not follow procedures in line with their Ombudsman. An absolutely lowly and terrible company with no morals.
Fined for a 20m overstay
Fined for a 20m overstay. I have used this car park to shop in The Mall Wood Green several times and always paid for an hour despite the neglected state of the car park. The parking bay lines are so faded they are practically invisible. I paid at 16:10 for an hour parking on this occasion and returned to my vehicle just after 5pm. I stupidly assumed it may be free after business hours and I could take a phone call. If a ticket inspector should be doing the rounds I could drive off. It was only after receiving the PCN in the post that I realised its a 24h enforcement with a camera monitoring one's entry and exit at all times. I appealed but was rejected and reluctantly ended up paying £60.00. Incidentally, the day I returned to have a proper read of the signage to appeal I noted new signage that wasn't there before! I tried to pay for an hour as usual but the ticket machine wouldn't issue a ticket on repeated contactless payment attempts so I entered the same reg number again and tried contactless again. The machine then issued two tickets starting a minute apart with the same car registration number, charging my card twice! Sums up how old/analog the ticket machine is that it can be so slow to process a ticket, prone to faults and issue two parking tickets for the same hour with the same reg number! I felt like writing to Excel parking to demand £1.00 back but I don't doubt they will not take responsibility for the faulty ticket machine or maintenance of the car park.
Excel Parking Services
Excel Parking Services, what happened to the little payment box where you could simply pay the toll at Warburton Bridge?
This new system seems unnecessarily complicated and leaves genuine customers facing substantial charges for simple mistakes.
I own two vehicles and accidentally entered the registration number of my other vehicle. The £1 toll WAS paid and I have proof of payment. This was a genuine human error, not an attempt to avoid paying a £1 toll.
Yet, surprise surprise, Excel Parking have rejected my appeal and now want £31 for a £1 toll that I actually paid!
I’d genuinely rather take the long way round and never use Warburton Bridge again than risk being charged £30+ because of an innocent registration mistake. How is that fair or proportionate treatment of someone who actually paid the toll?
Thieves, the lot of you! Karma you robbing bastards!
SCAMMERS
SCAMMERS!
Charge jumped from £60 to £100 just because I appealed the charge. I inputted the wrong number plate when purchasing a ticket in Lincoln. Despite giving proof of payment and told them the number plate they will find on the system I was still required to pay! They’ve had £111 pound out of me for using the car park for 2 hours. I am not short on bills and will have to decide between my weekly shop or my electric bill. Corporate greed.
Robbed
We paid £6.60p to park in the St
Marks car park in Lincoln only to get a parking notice for not paying we then appealed and where in form on the 16/09/26 the it had failed so we now have paid £40 total rip off and the company could not care of the out come in one bit just want your money. Will never park there again and advise other people to no either
Excel operate a parking scam...do not…
Excel operate a parking scam...do not send an initial parking notice so follow up letter increases the fine with no option to pay a lower amount. Some councils operate a similar practice to increase revenues. Time someone took them to task to curtail this immoral practice. .
Never use these car parks
Never use these car parks, we paid and put one digit of the reg number in wrong.
We proved payment through banking and now they say it's a tablet in a shop that we should have used when clearly my banking says excell parking.
Total robbing wa nk ers
We will see you in court scammers.
Absolute Scumbags
Absolute scumbags, parked at their Lincoln site and paid for a 2 hour ticket. I entered the car park 5 minutes before I was able to physically purchase my ticket due to a queue and just generally because you have to park, then walk to a machine to purchase a ticket etc. Upon leaving, due to how small this car park is, I had to navigate people waiting for my space before then being able to actually get out of the car park (5 minutes over the end of my ticket time).
I challenged this, provided proof of ticket purchase time relative to CCTV footage of me entering the car park, however this was declined and I was forced to pay a fine.
Joke of a company, already charging nearly £7 for parking for 2 hours and then fining people £60 because you take CCTV of them entering which is different to the purchase time of the ticket and fine them even though the ticket says they still have time left.
I would strongly advise people to be…
I would strongly advise people to be very cautious when dealing with Excel Parking.
As a member of the gym, I am entitled to free parking and, like every other gym member, I enter my vehicle registration into the computer system provided. Despite following the required process, I have still received parking charge notices and a stream of threatening letters.
What is most frustrating is that I am far from alone. I have spoken with other gym members and local visitors who have experienced similar issues. As a result, many of us now avoid visiting businesses in the area because we do not want to risk receiving parking charge notices despite following the parking rules.
I even provided evidence that I was legitimately using the gym at the time. My gym membership records clearly show that I was in the gym when the parking charge was issued, yet this evidence has been disregarded. Despite providing proof, they continue to pursue me for payment.
We also spoke to a member of the maintenance team for the site, who told us they have received a very large number of complaints relating to the parking arrangements over the years. Hearing this only reinforced the impression that these issues are not isolated incidents.
The constant letters, threats of court action, and warnings about potential CCJs create unnecessary stress and anxiety. Instead of helping genuine customers resolve issues, the process feels intimidating and excessively aggressive.
In my experience, customer service has not provided a satisfactory resolution, and the entire situation has left me with very little confidence in the company's parking management system.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend Excel Parking.
I received a PCN from Excel Parking…
I received a PCN from Excel Parking Services in June 2026. I had parked in a blue badge holder's space at Manor Walks Shopping Centre and forgot to display my blue badge. That was my fault but I decided to appeal the charge. At the beginning of Sept. 2026, I received an email informing me the PCN has been cancelled and I owe nothing. Excel have been polite and courteous throughout.
Complete scam
Complete scam - paid for parking to recieve two fines that I had parked in a e permit and haven’t uploaded my vehicle to the e permit vehicle portal ??? Obviously trying to scam people and then won’t let you appeal as you have to pay the full charge otherwise
Paid for Parking- they’re threatening Court
July 2025 I Parked and paid for 2 hours at the Corn Exchange Leeds, there was a machine that had a queue and the app wouldn’t download so I called the Excel parking number provided. Was sent confirmation of payment, an invoice stamped “Paid” and left within an hour. Few weeks later had a fine sent saying I hadn’t paid. I appealed, explained to someone over the phone, sent proof, bank statement, screenshots of calls and their copy of their invoice stating “paid”, they rejected the appeal saying I had not met the terms that payment through the app or machine requires. I emailed again reminding them that I had paid by their phone line. August 2026 and they are now threatening to take me to the small claims court for unpaid fine of £170.
They have my £4.40 from the original ticket I paid.
I am currently awaiting a time and date of a mediation call to see if they want to take this to court. I’m taking this as far as it will go, not just for me, but for all the people that have been put through the stress of dealing with an unreasonable, inhuman, dry, blank wall, unshifting, customer dismissive leaches, on top of any other life issues they might have. No doubt the most vulnerable customers will just pay up these false fines to avoid the stress of having to fight a money backed, lawyered up unscrupulous big corporate company.
The owners of this company are at best oblivious and any landowners considering putting this company in place to represent their parking should be thinking twice about being associated with them.
I’m hoping the judge, should it come to it, hits this company hard for its waste of courts time, it’s harassment of its paying customers and its misuse of requesting customer’s data from the DVLA … surely that is a breach of data protection?
EXCEL PARKING …. AVOID … it’ll cost you more than just the parking time and money shown on their display boards.
I parked in a blue badge space…
I parked in a blue badge space legitimately, when I went to pay they required an EPASS to use the blue badge, I tried to register my blue badge without any luck, spoke to hospital receptionist who could not help and even spoke to their help desk, number displayed on parking rules and regs, they couldn’t help, WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO I paid at the machine with my blue badge which worked ok “ no charge required “ this company is criminal in their actions, DONT USE A CAR PARK RUN BY THIS COMPANY
