Excellent service

Yesterday morning, I was PRIVILEGED to be by a Gentleman called Philani Gwacela! He has been so helpful, to make me aware of this, function in the FNB app, that I have been TOTALLY UNAWARE OF! With this fabulous function on your banking app, WILL SAVE YOU A LOT OF MONEY! You, simply click on the payment button, select Pay Sharp, &, you select the correct beneficiary, and you are all good! Thank you so much for your, excellent service sir! God speed!

There’s a reason why FNB is rated so…

There’s a reason why FNB is rated so poorly. I called with a simple question, was then directed by phone to 7 people, and then my R150 airtime ran out, all spent on 1hr on the phone with them. Absolutely useless and nobody knows how to deal with any questions so they just refer to irrelevant departments.

What an inconvenience!!

I have been a FNB customer since 2007. I have always admired their technology advantages over other banks, and in general I never had reason to complain Around a year ago I was asked to do a KYC via e-mail. I sent the required documents to eddconsumer and everything seemed fine. A few weeks later I tried to pay something at Volpes and my card declined. I went to FNB in Tygervalley Centre and they told me that Fica was outstanding. No warning SMS or email, just froze my account. But, we understand that these things happen and I continued life, only to have my account frozen again a few weeks later. I went to the bank again (with my husband who also did his Fica) and I did my Fica again. Shortly after we visited Botswana for business. My husband’s card started declining and we could not pay for the fuel we had just put in. Luckily he had contact with his private banker and she was able to lift the hold so we could get back to South Africa. Not long or my account was frozen again. This time my debit orders failed and I was unable to pay my debt. I had enough and opened an account at another bank. Unfortunately I still owe them a revolving loan and an overdraft which I am currently paying off. You won’t believe me when I say after our December holiday I was unable to make a payment to my revolving loan again because of a fica hold. This now reflects as an arrears on my credit record and I am unable to replace the car I just sold due to finance being declined. Are they so corporate that they do not realise that the account they froze is a loan?! I am at a loss for words and ultimately past annoyed with their service. When asking them they just said its a KYC hold and I have to spend yet another day at the branch. Valuable time I could have spent at my office. My work requires me to travel alot and these KYC holds always occur without warning when you are stuck in another country with only your FNB card. Private Wealth means zero at FNB. Just ridiculous bank fees. I have never been contacted by a banker of any sort. No thanks! I cannot wait to pay off this loan so I can be rid of them for good. Contradicting as they have never asked me to FICA my small business account.

Unimpressed with debit order department service

Good day I need assistance
I have phoned the debit order department for assistance but they seem too incompetent to assist me or give me information.
I approved a debit order mandate and the company has not lived up to it promise and I phoned last month and gave the information to the debit order department and they said it would cost R80 to stop it it was not stopped and that money got taken off and I want that money back what do I do.
I phoned again just now to 087777000 and spoke to Ernest who said that FNB dont cancel debit order mandates but refused to give me any further assistance in regards to resolving my issue. I asked twice do I need to open a fraud case to get that mandate stopped and just reiterated that FNB cant stop mandates.
I have been banking with FNB for years now and this is what I get for the service fees I pay its rubbish

URGENT FORMAL COMPLAINT – Unjustified Refund Delay & Unacceptable Service

First National Bank

I am beyond frustrated and utterly disgusted by the level of incompetence, lack of accountability, and complete disregard for customer service that I have experienced with FNB regarding my property refund.

I sold a property that was financed through FNB and am now owed a refund. I have completed every required step, including filling out the refund form—twice—submitting proof of account, and providing bank statements for every relevant account. Despite being a loyal FNB customer for over 12 years, during which your bank has financed and handled all my financial affairs, I now find myself in a ridiculous battle just to receive what is rightfully mine.

I have received multiple emails from the attorneys handling the transaction stating that FNB refuses, cannot, or will not process my refund into my primary FNB cheque account—without giving any explanation. This is unacceptable.

For three days now, I have been sent in circles through your useless online app, bounced from one department to another, with not a single person able to provide any answers or even guide me on how to resolve this issue. How is it possible that no one in any of your departments can take responsibility for a simple refund? This level of incompetence is beyond comprehension.

FNB has shown itself to be not just inefficient but deliberately evasive, obstructive, and completely uninterested in actually serving its customers. Your banking app is dysfunctional, your employees are clueless, and your processes are intentionally convoluted. Instead of focusing on pointless gimmicks, perhaps FNB should focus on actually delivering a banking service that works.

I demand the following immediate actions:

1. A written explanation as to why my refund has not been processed into my FNB cheque account.

2. The name and direct contact details of a senior representative who will personally take ownership of this issue and resolve it without further delays.

3. Immediate processing of my refund, as I have already met every single requirement multiple times.

If this matter is not resolved immediately, I will escalate this complaint to the Ombudsman for Banking Services and any relevant regulatory authorities. I have had enough of FNB’s incompetence and refusal to provide basic banking services.

I expect a response and resolution without any further delay.

Sincerely,
JONATHAN SKELTON

Their platforms always have technical…

Their platforms always have technical issues. For two days now I can't transact on any of my accounts. The team on their secure chat on their APP are useless to say the least, they are either closing the chat in the middle of the chat or telling you to contact FNB via their contact Center. So what's the point of this team if they aren't useful for anything other than waste one's time?

Poorly trained staff and useless customer care channels

I have been with FNB for years and constantly struggle to get anything done. Most recently I emigrated to the UK and went into the bank to discuss how I could transfer over funds. I was told that I needed to upgrade my account to open a Forex account. I allowed them to do this. When I got home that afternoon I tried to exchange money but I was unsuccessful because the account they updated me to required me to show 3 months payslips. Even though at the time I was unemployed and the assistant was aware of this. I had to return to the bank to resolve the issue. I was told again that this was not an issue and that I could just ignore that message asking for payslips. When I got to the UK and I needed to exchange money, the account did not work. I received advice from my UK bank and ended up just sending the money and paying transfer fees. I left a bit of money in my FNB account for when I came back to SA to visit. To my surprise, each month that I did not use my FNB account, I was charged R115. I ended up going into an overdraft and had to ask my family still in SA to settle the account. I then tried to close my account again and was unsuccessful. I tried to talk to FNB's helpline but they just told me to call a SA number. When I explained that I was out of the country, they gave me an email. I asked how long the email takes to respond, and they said they did not know. I then asked whether another R115 would be charged whilst I await a response and they told me that they could not confirm anything. To this day my account is still not closed.

I had an excellent experience with FNB Sandton City

I had an excellent experience with Mahlogonolo Rabodiba @ FNB Sandton city. They were incredibly helpful, patient, and thorough in addressing my questions and concerns. It’s rare to come across such outstanding customer service these days. I truly appreciate their effort and professionalism.

DO NOT use FNB to renew your car…

DO NOT use FNB to renew your car licence.
They use the courier Skynet who are totally incompetent and dishonest.
You will not receive your licence that you paid FNB for.
Then you have to fight for FNB to take accountability for non delivery.
FNB takes your money, does not deliver licence and cannot produce any proof that the licence was renewed.
They then have the audacity to tell you to collect it yourself in Centurion, when it was supposed to delivered to Cape Town.
FNB is just as useless as Skynet!

Aweful service

I made a purchase with Temu and the order was cancelled and I made an EFT payment on Temu website. They assured me that the order has been cancelled and refund will be made by the bank. On many attempts I called the Customer Service and they cannot give ma answer on the outcome. Incompetent staff who dont care about your money and dont know what going on. Really pathetic service with this magnitude of a bank. Temu assisted me the most in this whole situation and First National Bank cares less to assist. I willbe very careful transacting with such a pathetic bank that dont have a dont care attitude bank. Cant give a simple answer, all I have ben told we dont know!!! Please be very careful with FNB online transacting. I dont trust this pathetic bank!!!

This bank is a joke

my girlfriend is in the process of closing her FNB account. The customer service is almost funny its so bad. Her account got hacked at some time, we noticed and reached out to customer service. We didnt get any of the money back just a new card. That’s not great we lost some money but at least they did something. The FNB app is the most stupid thing ive seen in a long time. You cant even view transactions from what we have seen only some transactions thing that looks like a chat. Its extremely difficult that way to follow whats happening on your bank account. At some point the app started interrupting random transactions saying she had to update her personal data. IT WAS UPDATED AND CORRECT! So the damn app kept interrupting transactions that we had to completely restart. So one day we messaged the customer support and told them about it. We talked to three People over the course of two hours explaining the same shit over and over again, the last one asked us lots of details, entered the stuff for us, said its fixed. Awesome. We thought. A few days later same shit. This is unbeliebably annoying and they keep wasting our time. Now because of the absolutely horrendous app she switched banks to Capitec, which is much better in every respect. We emptied the FNB account and let them know we want to close the account. They said fine theres some stuff that needs to be transferred, we did that. They were going to close the account. A few weeks later she gets a message from the app (she kept the app until that damn account is actually closed because we learned not to trust them). In the message it said the account can not be closed. We checked the app, it said the balance is 0R but we somehow still owe 1R which we saw at a little thing below the balance saying „My Networth“. For what and to whom we owe this is completely unclear. But its only one Rand right? This is unbelievable. So we called them and let them know that the account is still not closed and we will not pay another fee for any damn thing and they logged a „ticket“ to close the account. So we will see in the next weeks if anything at all happens. These people have an icredible ability to waste peoples time and money and get absolutely nothing sorted properly. You dont get a bank advisor like in other banks that you can talk to every single time its someone else and NO ONE actually helps. This bank is a joke I can not recommend them.

Good experience

Took a long time to get ahold of anybody in FNB Fraud but once I had the right people helping me I resolved my issue in 20 minutes ( we all know that isn't a long time for anything telephonic now a days ). Thank you Angel for explaining the procedure and putting my mind at ease!

I am talking about the shocking…

I am talking about the shocking Customer Service i experienced on 30th Dec2024...sent an amount to person, which normally takes just a few hours to arrive normally, rang their service from website as no email available (how bad is that) spoke with individual & said they would refer it to some "finding " section, days later rang number again, as no reply to initial query, was given a Ref No by Ncedisaa..so nine days had elapsed, unitl yesterday, when i spoke with Moloko, who in fairness did take to another level...got a ring from Charity @FNB who then confirmed that amount had been paid in to the person's acct.........but what an absolutely miserable Customer Service is in place....horrendous!!!

Bad service

Bad service. I wanted my sms on my phone to show again.i had a fraud transaction almost go off if it was not for the incontact sms.when I got my new card they say they cannot do the sms for me. They have done away with it. I was absolutely angry. They say I must log onto my app. I don't have Data to keep going in n checking my account and I must have data cos with telkom I cannot check without data. I told them this is such an inconvenience for me. The moment there's activities on my account I know immediately via sms. I'm paying for my services n when a customer requests for this service it should b given to them. It's left to them if they want to b at risk ir not.i am very upset with their service. I'm deciding to close my account with them. Horrible service.

FNBs payment or fee structure is…

FNBs payment or fee structure is absolutely disgusting. One month is R200 the other R600. A business account that gets charged for every transaction is simply stupid. Capitec, STD bank and Discovery have much better value for money and their fees don't fluctuate every month. The last straw before closing my personal and business accounts with them is for being charged R417 for 3 transactions that were "made" with insufficient funds in the account. Their consultant is insistent it's because the transaction failed but they honored the purchase. So essentially saying that if your account has less than the required funds they pay and you pay back with excess. So you can purchase a car with no funds then pay back later? The issue stems from their reserved purchase system. How is a person, especially a business supposer to know what funds are in the account constantly without logging in? If the funds left immediately after a purchase you'd know how much is left. A R57 swipe cost R155 . 3 times so I've been charged R417 for that. FNB is essentially a scam and bad business practices. I'd advise anyone contemplating opening accounts with them to reconsider the multiple much better options than them. Zero stars

Credit Card Fraud Resolved Quickly

I was a victim of credit card fraud in late November, and was alerted at the time of the suspicious transaction and blocked the card. The fraudulent amount still came off my account, but FNB was able to reimburse the amount within a day after calling in and reporting it.
