Sent half of what I ordered. The service representative said she would send the missing item. After 4 days, I called for a status. I waited for 21 minutes before a recorded message advised they were so busy I would have to call back. I went through this 3 times, waiting over 20 minutes each time. I finally called on Saturday and spoke to Ricardo, who was very dismissive, arrogant and sarcastic and was unable to remedy the failure. Obviously Ricardo has never been trained and has no pride in his work. Now I wait for another call back...
They cancelled my order without telling me several days before christmas. I had to call to find out. They said I should have gotten a refund as well which I have not gotten yet. The rep on the phone said, "I just work here." Unbelievable.
I wish I had read the reviews here before making a purchase from Hammacher Schlemmer. This company operates with outdated policies that punish customers at every turn. I ordered the Adjustable Height Fold-Away Ottoman (Item #97497), expecting a functional piece of furniture based on the images and description on their website. What I received was a low, uncomfortable ottoman that doesn’t come close to the height of a standard sofa or chair. Misleading product visuals aside, the real nightmare began when I tried to return it.
Their return process is archaic and unsafe. I was required to print out a return form and handwrite my credit card information — yes, handwrite my credit card information — on a piece of paper to mail back with the item. In 2024, this is not only wildly inconvenient but also a serious security risk. Every reputable retailer today allows for direct refunds to the original payment method, but not Hammacher Schlemmer.
To make matters worse, they charge a $13.95 “processing fee” for returns. This is on top of the fact that you pay for shipping both ways. So, I’m paying shipping to receive it, paying to ship it back, and then paying an arbitrary fee for the privilege of returning a product that didn’t match its online representation. Most companies abandoned this type of fee decades ago when online shopping became the norm.
The whole experience feels like a scam — hidden fees, unsafe processes, and absolutely no regard for customer experience. I will never purchase from Hammacher Schlemmer again, and I’ll warn anyone I can to avoid them. There are far too many other retailers who prioritize customer service and fair return policies. This company is stuck in the past, and clearly doesn’t care about retaining happy customers. It sad because at one time they were a great company.
Save yourself the headache — shop literally anywhere else.
I recently bought two holiday boxwood trees, both came with broken bases. I have spent hours on the phone trying to get through to customer service. They then tried to charge me for shipping to return the items that I received broken. I am still waiting on a refund, hopefully I will receive one, now I cannot get through to customer service to see if the refund is going through anytime soon. I also tried to post a review of the product on their website, but they wouldn’t post it. That is how they keep their reviews positive, while websites like this allow for the true ratings to show. The company has gone so far downhill in the past year.
Do not order from this company!!! I returned almost 500.00 dollars worth of Christmas items.It took me 30 days to get refunded . They would not refund the sales tax or the shipping I was charged!!
First, this company sent me the wrong item. A tree ornament angel instead of a an All in one music stereo. I called them to return the “Angel” and asked them to cancel the order for the music stereo. They sent the music stereo anyway and I returned it the same day. To be fair, I did open it to test it since they went ahead and sent it hopeful it would be a good product. However, the stereo was terrible quality, sounded tinty and the CD player open/close tray wouldn’t open when pressing the open/close button. I was very disappointed in the product as well as the service. I was on the phone with customer service so many times it was exhausting. They did not return my entire amount of money and instead of refunding the charge on my credit card they sent me a check and I was short $31.75. I realize their return policy said they weren’t paying for returns but I specifically asked them to cancel the order and they did not. I understand mistakes happen during the holidays, but I did ask for this to be cancelled. I would rather pay the 31.75 then converse with them again so I don’t want to send them my complaint but hope the people reading this will decide to shop elsewhere.
I still haven't received a refund for an item i returned. Tracking number shows they received it 14 days ago.
Their online ordering process has doubled my orders the last 2 times I’ve ordered in 2 weeks time. Called their customer service 1/800 number and was told it is my problem not theirs. I called within 6 minutes of checking my order for 1 item which was doubled to 2 and gave him my order number and he said “ok” and nothing could be done. I then said I had spent thousands of dollars with Hammacher Schemmler and he said”ok” and nothing could be done!!! DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY HAMMACHER SCHLEMMER!! Robin M.

the lights have gone out. I tried calling and emailing for a fix and no one has got back to me and its been a over week. I will never buy from this place again!!
Ordered a product on December 1st. I received no shipping confirmation after several days so I called. Was given the runaround and told that it could take up to eight days to ship. This of course is after their website said most items shipped within 24 hours. Called back two days later and was told that the item was picked for shipping. Not the case never received a shipping confirmation again. Finally called back on the 11th and was told that the item was back ordered. I told them to cancel the order and well on the phone with the customer service rep. She said it was picked to ship. You cannot trust anything that the customer service people say to you at this company. I ended up canceling my order completely, and then received an email today saying that because they were unable to fulfill my order within the designated time they were canceling it. Big fat mess. Never ordering from them again.
If I told you the whole story, your blood would boil just like mine is now, but suffice to say I will never again be ordering from this once reputable company again
I am VERY upset and angry with Hammacher Schlemmer which at one time was an excellent company, but no longer is so. I ordered a Christmas gift from their website on 11/18/24, and was told that it would arrive in about 1 week. It did not arrive. A week later, I wrote them an email asking where the present was, after phoning their customer service number and getting a “we’re busy, call back later, or send us an email” message after waiting online for better than 30 minutes. I received an email response to my email from Alyssa stating that it would be shipped in a week.
A week later I tried again to find out where my present was after calling and emailing I received a response from Charmaine on 12/7/24 indicating that I would not receive my order until 3/4/24. I also received a catalogue and my purchase item was on the first page of that catalogue. I then went to the HS website and my purchase item was on the first page of the category that it was in. SO WHY IS AN ITEM ON THEIR NEWEST CATALOGUE AND 0N THEIR WEBSITE NOT AVAILABLE FOR 3 MONTHS ???
I then went to Amazon, ordered the item and within 24 hours it was in my hands.
I have cancelled my order with HS, hopefully the cost of my item will not be on my credit card. In order to cancel, I phoned a number of times with ZERO response and then sent an email.
After reading the many negative comments on Trust Pilot, I suspect that I will be charged for this item on my credit card bill. If this happens I will contact the BBB.
I purchased an end table that arrived broken. I contacted the company which explained what to do. I did what they said and waited for a refund which I still haven’t received! I have sent emails after emails only with no results! I have tried phoning! Not any better. Don’t waste your time or money on this company!
As other reviewers have warned, this company tries to sign up customers who simply place an order for their "rewards" program which charges monthly. After reading about this illegal practice, I attempted to get customer service to answer whether or not my account was signed up and charged without my consent. Customer service refused to send an email or provide cancellation information, so now the account will have to be monitored monthly to see if the charges go through. Be aware that just placing an order with this company can result in monthly charges for a program you do not intend to join. Reports will be filed with the BBB, FTC and Attorney General's office about this practice. Buyer beware.
I purchased a product and PAID for 1-day delivery. At checkout, you choose options for delivery with increasing payment according to how fast you need the item. Once the order was placed I received an email from UPS indicating that it would not arrive until late in the evening, before 11pm THREE days later. I called customer service who could only quote the delivery regs from something she kept RE-reading about 24-to-48-hour delivery once the order was placed , which was her response to each question I asked. I then requested a refund for the overnight delivery charge and told her that I could not believe that this had not happened before. She claimed she had not heard of this but also could not do a refund. Conveniently, there was no supervisor available. Had I known this to be the case, I would have NEVER paid for early delivery. This is misleading and fraudulent that a company will take your money and not give you what you paid for. It goes beyond false advertising. BUYER BEWARE. I will not be ordering from this company again.
Ordered a Christmas tree on 11/11/24 said it was in stock and would ship in 24-48 hours. 7 business days later my tree still had not shipped. Called and the person I spoke with said it is showing it didn't ship because it was on backorder. However, she said that wasn't true that they did have them in stock and would escalate our ticket. It's now 2 business days later and the tree still hasn't shipped. Chatted with customer service and they said that the tree would be here 12/2/24. I asked why is it taking so long when they stated if the item is in stock it would be shipped in 24-48 hrs. The customer service agent said that we just called in Wednesday. I let him know that we didn't just order it Wednesday, we ordered it 10 business days ago. Even so, that was 2 business days and it still hasn't shipped yet. Looking at these reviews, I don't think we will have a Christmas tree this year.
the items I ordered were discontinued after I ordered and I only found out after I called them 10 days after placing the order. Although I got a discount when I purchased, no similar discount was offered to replace to I cancelled the orders
I ordered a Christmas tree, received an email confirmation that I had ordered one tree, and the one tree hit my credit card. 20 minutes later I had an alert for another charge on my credit card that totaled 2 trees. My credit card had been charged for 3 trees in total while I have ordered 1. I have called customer service numerous times and sent emails to try to get this fixed. I have now been charged for 2 trees as the initial and correct amount fell off of my credit card. And it is showing that I have been shipped two Christmas trees. I'm not sure what to do at this point since I can't get anyone to help me! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
Three weeks ago I ordered two pre-lit autumn swags. One came with a timer, as advertised, and the other didn’t. I have called customer service twice and sent emails, and I have spoken to actual people who said the correct swag would be delivered. A week passed and no word from HS. I called again. The same thing happened. Still no replacement swag. HS went from favorite store to never again!!
ordered 3 things, 2 show up after a couple weeks, and the 3rd won't ship for another month. Complete BS. before I found this out I ordered another item, and it wont ship for 6 weeks. WHY DON'T THEY TELL YOU THIS BEFORE ORDER???
