Predatory practices, STAY AWAY.

I am filing a complaint with the department of insurance and also reaching out to this law firm to pursue a class action lawsuit: Haffner Lawyers in LA

I hope you will join me. We must not let them get away with being so soulless, predatory and unethical.

My story:

I have four cats under Healthy Paws pet insurance, all of different ages. In 2024, my premium was $390+, already preposterous but manageable. They tried to raise it to over $900, but luckily I was able to bring it down to about $450 (still wild) by increasing some deductibles and lowering the percentage reimbursed for many of the cats.

But then this year they are again raising the price to close to 1k, with my senior cat being $700 of that! This is INHUMANE, as they are basically trying to price out my senior cat, right when he needs his insurance most, and after we've been loyal customers for his entire life! So unethical!

And the only options they offer to lower the price is to drastically lower my cats' coverage to the point where it wouldn't really even be useful, even for emergencies!

Like I said above, this is predatory behavior.

After eight years of paying Healthy Paws insurance and finally getting back the amount close to the amount of the monthly payment. They changed my deductible from $250 to $500 and my reimbursement percentage from 80% to 70%. I dealt with the price increases from 50.07 in 2018, 112.72 in 2024, 152.44 in 2025. This year it was 142.95 down approx 10.00 but reduced policy as stated above.

After a traumatic event with my dog, I submitted my invoice as a claim. I contacted the company to make sure I submitted all the information they needed. In all my communications I was treated by knowledgeable and caring staff. My several page invoice was reviewed and paid within a couple of weeks. I appreciated the efficiency and care that my claim was given. I do not hesitate to recommend Healthy Paws for your pet insurance choice.

She gave us a military discount, which was very appreciated considering my husband was in Vietnam then continued in the Navy service for 21 years. We appreciate people that recognize the sacrifices we made to keep our country free🇺🇸 The employees are exceptional ❣️I always get call backs to check on Layla which makes me know they care❣️I am so glad Dr Busch decided to open her practice here! She has cared for Layla for 6 years💗

Today I received notification that Healthy Paws withdrew $109 from my checking account without my approval. They claim an email was sent in July stating that my monthly premium would increase from $76 to $109. I never received the email or it went directly to junk mail. When I called to inquire they basically said "too bad." They refused to send me notifications by USPS mail and that they only use electronic transactions. Just a few short years ago, I was paying about $50 per month. Now that my pup is seven years old, its almost impossible to get reasonable insurance with another carrier due to pre-existing conditions. Finally, the representative from Healthy Paws was rude and would not let me get a word in edge wise. Extremely disappointed with Healthy Paws. I will start seeking out another carrier who hopefully will be more respectful of customers and willing to truly listen to concerns.

Wally is my first dog and I heard about Healthy Paws from my friend. They have been amazing and they can also be reached by phone. I have found their customer service representatives to be amazing, kind, helpful and efficient!

Healthy Paws is my go-to for pet insurance. I've used them for pet insurance for more than 10 years. Right now, I actually have 2 accounts with them because an account is limited to 3 pets and I now have 4. The KEY to success with Healthy Paws is: 1) Know exactly what your policy covers and what it doesn't, and 2) Provide full medical records on your pet. One of my dogs just had extensive knee surgery. I started the claims process early with records for the initial exam and X-rays. Healthy Paws actually reached out to the surgeon themselves and obtained any other records and explanations. I had provided entire health records from my regular vet as well. I think they were trying to find out if the knee issue was a preexisting condition (it wasn't). Some policies don't cover certain preexisting conditions, so make sure you know whether your policy covers them. My dog had surgery only 3 weeks ago and I was paid back 80% minus my annual deductible by direct deposit within 2 weeks. Sweet!

We enrolled with Healthy Paws after significant research of its policies and of other pet insurance policies in 2020. We brought home 2 puppies and landed on Healthy Paws.

When I submitted claims in 2023, Healthy Paws acknowledged receipt...after I sent an email wondering why they had not responded. They then asked me to submit a claim! I sent them the claim originally sent...crickets. It is now July 2024 and I still have not heard from them regarding my claims for my dogs.

I DO NOT recommend this company. I don't know if they were having an internal issue with employees, but no customer should experience this, especially when all account payments are completed. I also find it interesting that they (Healthy Paws) so readily push out policy information and updates about policy changes that will increase customer fees. It's funny how they never forget to contact customers about increasing their annual fees!

Cancelled.

I’ve made one reimbursed claim in the 5ish years that I’ve had Healthy Paws. They gave me the absolute hardest time saying they never received any records for my dog from her vet, but they had been sent multiple times from the vet with fax receipts. It finally got resolved after many months and headaches. Fast forward to my second claim most recently, they tried to claim my dog needed a whole new enrollment evaluation (won’t provide a reason why) and did not have her vet records yet again. They won’t process the claim. My dog is 5 years older than she was when she first started on the insurance and they can now claim that she has changed in health. And their premium keeps increasing - so I’m paying $15 more a month and they’re losing my dog’s records. Feels like they’ll do anything to take your money but never reimburse you for claims within your policy. Definitely do not recommend.

After we lost Stella to IMHA in 2015 (and paid some $12,000 in vet bills over 14 months), we shopped around for pet insurance and chose Healthy Paws. Our dogs are like our children, and it is worth the monthly premium not to have to hesitate when they need care--especially when a mild-looking ailment might be masking something serious that might respond to early intervention. Healthy Paws has seen us through some two dozen injuries and illnesses, from a lacerated ear flap to a terminal case of lymphoma. Their policies are fair, transparent and easy to understand, their prices are reasonable and very competitive, their communications are prompt and their processing of claims is incredibly quick--we have received payments (via direct deposit) in as little as 3 days. And finally--having just had to put down our beloved Emma, followed almost immediately by some scary GI issues in her grieving pal Charlie--we have found Healthy Paws--the staff and the company--to be humane, helpful and genuinely compassionate. As long as we have dogs, we will continue to have Healthy Paws.

I made exactly one claim during the 3 years I was a policy holder. As an attorney, I am used to adversarial proceedings but never encountered that experience where I am making a first-party claim. I see where most policyholders were happy with their experience and satisfied. I, on the other hand, had among the worst customer service I have ever encountered.

I am so glad I signed up for the Healthy Paws insurance for my two cats. In November 2023, I had to bring my female cat to the vet for an emergency. Afterwards, I was sent to the hospital to have my cat checked into on an emergency basis. She was admitted and stayed for 3 days.
When I submitted my bills to Healthy Paws, they processed my claim within a relatively short period of time. (It was around Thanksgiving so I noticed it took a little longer.) HOWEVER, they covered everything they promised to cover when I signed up for the policy! No BS excuses and they sent me my reimbursement checks quickly. If you are shopping around for pet insurance, I would recommend Healthy Paws.

Our Beautiful Stella was hospitalized for possible toxic poisoning and fortunately pulled through. It was quite a financial shock. Healthy Paws stepped up and honored their policy agreement and saved the day. A very trusted, thorough, and reputable company. Highly recommend in case your furry friends ever get into trouble.

Our dog, Willie, recently needed to receive a very expensive procedure involving the removal of multiple masses and subsequent pathology analysis. It would have cost thousands of dollars without his insurance. Healthy Paws reimbursed us for the expense quickly with o questions asked. This prevented us from having to make some very difficult decisions about Willie's health. I would recommend their service to anyone looking for pet insurance.

I am so impressed with Healthy Paws - I submit a claim and within 48 hours its complete and I have my reimbursement - and then they emailed me to check on our pet who had ACL surgery - amazing and always so helpful - I am so glad I have Heathly Paws

I have had golden retrievers since 1985. I never pursued getting insurance because in general they were usually pretty healthy until their later years. But for my latest goldens I decided to try it out while my they were still young and I went with Healthy Paws. One of my girls has had multiple flareups of pancreatitis and having this insurance to help out with that has been great! The claim procedures at Healthy Paws really couldn’t be easier; just scan a copy of your vet invoice and medical records and click submit. And, one last thing: it means a lot to me when they send me a personal email asking how my dog is doing!

Healthy Paws is a great pet insurance company, they are easy to work with and their website makes it easy to submit claims and receive payment. My beautiful English Springer Spaniel had to have surgery to remove a very large cyst from his neck. It was tough and expensive operation. I submitted the claim and within days of the surgery they sent the reimbursement payment to me and I was grateful as the payment came at time when money was needed. The following week the Healthy Paws team followed up to see how my pup was doing. I was happy to report his recovery and that he is cancer free. I highly recommend Healthy Paws to all pet owners. Pets can be expensive, and a good pet insurance company gives peace of mind to know our precious fur babies are covered.

I can't say enough good things about Healthy Paws Pet Insurance. I have been insuring my cat Skylar since 2017. They have great customer service personnel who really care about animals. They process claims in a timely manner. Recently my cat had to be in the hospital for 5 days with a medical condition. I submitted my claim on a Saturday, they processed it on Monday and I had my reimbursement through direct deposit on Tuesday. Having them in my corner helped the stress of the whole situation. They are truly the best.

Love Healthy Paws pet insurance. I have been a customer for over 8 years and never had a problem. Very quick to process a claim and always there to answer any questions. If you are thinking about insuring your pet, this company is the way to go. Thanks Healthy Paws!
