Cowboy unskilled roofers
Unfortunately, I had the misfortune of getting this bunch of cowboys to remove the felt and rotten wooden facias on my garage and utility room recently to be replaced with UPVC facias and rubber roof system. The garage originally suffered from water pooling in the centre so was assured a furring bar would be fitted on the new system for the water to run off, however it was not and if anything, it is now worse for holding water.
On the day of the job, the owner Gavin Watson called to say they could not source the 150mm facia boards needed locally although I gave the dimensions well in advance so I had to ring around on his behalf and find some locally at eurocell 10mins away from my property. However, the three “roofers” who obviously don’t have any relevant roofing qualifications between them still managed to come back with wider 175mm boards resulting in shed doors not being able to open as it was fouling on the underside of the facias.
To remedy this the roofers cut and hacked chunks off the facias around the shed door opening. Every single corner joint on the facias (seven in total) were cut to short and clagged with white silicone roughly as a “disguise” The poor workman ship continued to fitting of the kerb trim’s, gutter trims and corners, nothing lined up and two gutter drip corners were not installed what so ever. Everything was too high, too low, cut short or not fixed in place at all. The gutter clips should be fixed with a 1mm drop per clip for the water to run off, in the space of a 2-metre run the first clip ran from the top of the facia to the last clip hanging below the facia it was actually laughable.
Thankfully I never paid and complained, the next day two of the three chavvy roofers came back with the correct size facia, the re-fitment of these is a lot better but still poor. They removed the staples around the full rubber roof perimeter to get the wrong facia boards and wooden batten’s off but they never bothered stapling anything back down. Two gutter drip trim’s still not installed, kerb edges still at different heights, kerb trim corners missing or not secured. Poly pins used on facias instead of Poly nails. Poly nails used on kerb and gutter trim with heads cracked off exposing the nail head.
All the old felt, facia boards, tab butts, McDonalds packaging and what ever other crap not taken away so there’s an £80 waste collection bill I’ve got to front up. Seemingly they have previously traded under heritageroofingnortheast.co.uk with that web address unsurprisingly taken down. The workmanship has been well photographed so ombudsman and small claims probably the next step as the bill was settled in full.
