You went to places that I wanted to see and would be difficult to do on our own. Price is reasonable, guides are knowledgeable, helpful, and professional.

They did an excellent job of helping us to coordinate and plan the many (and geographically dispersed) places and activities we wanted to include in our trip. Additionally, they set us up with some unique and interesting experiences such as meeting with a Maiko in Kyoto and taking a sushi class which brought our trip to the next level. The local guides were all excellent, entertaining and knowledgeable (and kept us on our toes regardless of age!). Hotels were clean, nice and well located. We really appreciated the care package of tickets and detailed information for each location, which also included at times step-by-step guidance on our travel arrangements for the day. We now feel like we could navigate the Japanese rail system more confidently on a return trip.

Bobbi, the IJ trip planning consultant we worked with was terrific. He was extremely helpful in planning our whole trip. We requested a few adjustments to our ittinerary just a few weeks prior to leaving on our trip, and Bobbi made them happen. He was very professional and extremely helpful throughout the planning process. And, all of the hotel, tour and transportation arrangements were made correctly, and worked out well. We had one unfortunate experience with one of the big department stores in Kyoto. We contacted the in-country Inside Japan office and they were extremely helpful in resolving our problem favorably. All and all I'm very happy to recommend working with Inside Japan. We will do so again if we make a return trip. Michael Levy

Our 14-day Japan Unmasked tour with InsideJapan exceeded every expectation, but what made it truly exceptional were the people behind it.

Our tour leader, Hanan, was simply outstanding. I've traveled extensively and she is one of the best guides I've ever had. She somehow managed to keep our group perfectly on schedule while making the trip feel relaxed and effortless. We actually experienced more than what was promised because she knew how to maximize every day without making us feel rushed.

What really set her apart was how she brought Japan to life. She introduced us to regional specialties everywhere we traveled, made sure we experienced authentic local cuisine, shared cultural insights that went far beyond guidebooks, and somehow always managed to avoid any restaurant lines. She was incredibly knowledgeable, kind, patient, and genuinely cared that every person in the group had an amazing experience. I cannot stress enough that Hanan really made this trip extraordinarily special - she is an absolute gem.

Traveling through Japan involves trains, buses, subways, stations, hotels, and constantly changing locations, yet I never once felt lost, stressed, or unsafe. Hanan anticipated every detail before it became an issue. She made a complex itinerary feel seamless.

I also want to recognize Joseph, who helped us plan the trip from the very beginning. He was responsive, thoughtful, and checked in with us throughout our travels to make sure everything was going well. During our tour, we unfortunately experienced a death in our family back home, and Joseph reached out afterward with genuine kindness and concern. That level of personal care says a lot about the company and its people.

A few tips for future travelers:

Pack light. If you can avoid rolling luggage, do it. A backpack or duffel is much easier when navigating Japan's trains, stations, stairs, and public transportation.
Be adventurous with the food. Some of our favorite meals were dishes Hanan encouraged us to try that we never would have ordered on our own.
Trust the itinerary. It strikes a wonderful balance between iconic sights and places that most tourists never experience, from Kyoto's historic districts to traditional inns in Takayama, Hiroshima, Kanazawa, and the beautiful canal town of Kurashiki.

InsideJapan clearly cares about creating authentic experiences, but exceptional experiences still depend on exceptional people. Hanan and Joseph are exactly that. They made this one of the best trips I've ever taken, and I wouldn't hesitate to book with InsideJapan again.

Our guide was the best! She gave us so many historical stories about the places we visited, and went above and beyond to help us have the best experience.

This is the second time I've used IJT for a holiday and once again they came up trumps and I had a great time! I had a few things in mind that I wanted to do and some gaps that I was open to suggestion about. Once again my travel consultant Jess helped construct a suitable itinerary to fit everything in, so all I had to do was turn up at the airport with my passport some spending money and a sense of adventure. I'd very much recommend them if you're looking to visit Japan on your own terms and I'm already pondering a third trip!

Everything very well organised, very relaxed because all was taken care of. Our group gelled really well.

A busy itinerary but it didn't feel rushed. It was very varied with lots of new experiences even though we had lived in Japan some years ago. Loved everything about it.

Our tour leader never seemed to be under pressure, or if he was he hid it very well.

It was such a well organised and enjoyable trip. Nick the guide was amazing as every day he went above and beyond his brief to make sure all his guests had the best time ever. Emma, in the Bristol office, was also exemplary. She was efficient, friendly and always followed up every query which I had. There is no doubt that I would use your company again and certainly recommend it to others. The whole trip deserves 5*****.

Wonderful tour. Great guide with good itinerary. The only complaint was the fact we had to live out of our backpack for 3 days on 3 different occasions. That at least needs to be explained fully up front so people can prepare accordingly. Also the driver that took us to the airport upon departure dropped us off at the wrong terminal and it was a fiasco trying to find our correct terminal. In spite of these things the trip was unforgettable. I would highly recommend it to others.

Our first time to Japan. The tour was well organized and the guide (Carlo) was very knowledgeable and helpful. The hotels were all very nice but probably a bit too fancy. The food was excellent, but we would have preferred to be able to do our own thing at lunchtimes. But these are small things.

For us, a first trip to Japan is a leap into the unknown and is a little daunting - however, Inside Japan and Katie our consultant filled us with confidence and excitement.
We chose a self-guided tour as we wanted to have the feeling of 'travelling' with the assurance of an itinerary that travel professionals knew would work.
The week prior to the trip we had a call from Katy, who answered all of our last-minute questions. The week before the call, we had received a superb information pack and our tickets etc. the brochure became our bible. We set off with confidence knowing that we were in safe hands.
Everything went amazingly well, helped by the efficiency of Japan and the Japanese people.
The route that Katie had organised was perfect with enough time in the various locations to cover what we wanted to see and do. The accomodation we were booked into gave us a full flavour of Japanese hospitatilty.
Katie had booked a guide for days in Tokyo and Kyoto which was a fabulous way to see the cities - both guides were brilliant and got us and what we wanted to do within minutes - highly recomended because you will see and experience things you would not find on your own.
We did have a little hiccup on one of our hotel bookings. Still, rather than a negative this showed us how professional Inside Japan really are - one hotel room we were allocated was not what we had booked or to our taste when we arrived and so we called our contact in Japan - it was Sunday evening. They had sorted alternative accomodation and we were checking into a new hotel within an hour of our call. No quibbles or fuss.
There were so many highlights to our trip and we fell in love with the country, so much so we are now planning a return trip to explore areas that we did not manage to visit - obviously we will be seeking Katies help and the expertise of Inside Japan.

This was my first time allowing a company to arrange everything on my behalf and i didnt regret it. Everything was planned for me in meticilous detail, removing all pressure and allowing me to fully enjoy my travels.

Created the holiday we wanted rather than selling us a standard itinerary. All travel and accommodation arrangements worked perfectly.
The main area for improvement is client liaison post sale.
