Lovely (grown-up) family day out
I haven't been to Longleat in almost 50 years. I really enjoyed it. Every staff member I met was incredibly kind and helpful, particularly with my dad, who is elderly and a tires easily. The safari was brilliant (although the audio guide on the app was a bit patchy due to internet issues), the house was beautiful, and the grounds were worth the price of entry on their own - amazing mature trees, meadows, and plants. Parking was free, as was the coffee in the VIP area. We visited on a school day, and arrived early, which may be why there were no queues, and no uncomfortable crowds. I plan to go back 2-3 times a year from now on.
A shame
Don't even think about going! It's a disgrace that brings tears to the eyes of both children and parents.
We traveled all the way from the Indian Ocean to visit the world's largest hedge maze. We bought our tickets months ago. We arrived today, and it was closed for four days during the park's opening hours for maintenance! It's like paying for a ski pass only to find the main slopes are groomed but inaccessible!
At the reception desk, they were inflexible; even during the gardeners' break, they wouldn't let us in for the next two days! A refund wasn't possible either. "You should have looked at our website, ma'am." Okay, so the website... be warned, you have to click on the attraction, scroll to the bottom of the page, and then find a tiny sentence with the information. Furthermore, this information wasn't available when we bought the tickets. And that's where they rip you off, because of course, you have to buy the tickets in advance. So, we're dealing with a park that rips off its customers and shows absolutely no empathy for a crying child who lost her birthday present forever. We spent so much money to come here that, unfortunately, we won't risk being trapped in this park without its star attraction open again.
I therefore recommend you don't come if you want to do the maze. It's a lack of professionalism and a complete disregard for its young customers who have come from far away. They only want English tourists.
The proper business practice, dear owner, would have been to offer us the maze during the gardeners' break, and safety is no excuse; they simply need to remove the three hedge trimmers needed (there are only three gardeners!).
What a disgrace
What a disgrace and a total lack of professionalism.
We booked three months in advance and traveled from the other side of the world specifically to make our daughter's dream come true: visiting the world's largest hedge maze.
We arrived only to find out it was closed for hedge trimming.
Bear in mind that the park is only open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; how is it possible that maintenance isn't scheduled outside of opening hours—especially in July?
Why weren't we notified about the closure beforehand?
It's a disgrace.
We are absolutely gutted.
Amazing Safari Experience
I went to Longleat in May 2026 and I had an amazing time, I had a VIP experience and our guide was totally awesome (Callum) he was so knowledgeable and witty I learned a lot about the beautiful animals at Longleat, customer service was amazing, hardly had to queue for anything and the sun was shining!
I feel that you get more from the safari experience if you have a guide as opposed to driving round by yourself, I mean it's fun but the guides know more about Longleat than we do !
I had such a great time I am already booking my next visit.
My daughter booked me a lion experience…
My daughter booked me a lion experience last Friday. It was fantastic. Our guide & keeper Amy was so friendly and knowledgeable. Answered all our questions. It was nice to see the lions up close. We then went through the safari seeing loads of animals. We didn't do the monkeys after seeing the notices about damage to cars. Then we had a lovely afternoon just walking around enjoying all the attractions. Train ride, boat ride, bat cave etc. Didn't really have to queue anywhere. It was a lovely day and I hope to return someday.
horrible, unkind staff
we went on the VIP show-around on new years eve and at first everything was going fabulous, but around halfway through our tour our tour guide started being OPENLY transphobic and homophobic. this is EXTREMELY unprofessional and very harmful- baring in mind it was my sisters BIRTHDAY, just flat out ruined the whole experience.
GET BETTER STAFF!!! I'm surprised this place is still running with 51% 1 star.
appalling.
Don’t go later in the afternoon…
We planned a trip to go on the safari drive later in the afternoon. We got there at 3:40pm and the lady at the entrance was nothing but rude. Told us why bother coming if there is only an hour left looking at us in disgust, after about a 3 minute discussion and us saying we are more than happy to just do the safari drive (as that was all we were planning to do) she took our payment. I understand if we turned up right before closing but we didn’t. The first interaction ruined the whole experience, will not be coming back here!
We go every year to the festival of…
We go every year to the festival of lights. This was the busiest year. There were just way too many people and the experience was not enjoyable at all. The entire experience was spent in a queue and you couldn’t do or even see everything due to the sheer amount of people. We won’t be returning next year.
Disappointing. Not worth the money anymore.
We’ve been doing the Festival of Lights for over ten years running. It’s getting more and more commercial by the year… expensive for what it is, so crowded that it’s just queues everywhere! We were so packed in walking through trying to see the lights that you could barely see them squeezing through the throngs. 30 minutes queuing for churros; 30 minutes queuing for Rocking Rhino ride. Bins totally overflowing. Lots of main attractions close so early (the boat; the adventure playground) that if you’ve bought the day ticket there’s little to do in the afternoon.
Absolutely awful service
Absolutely awful service. After a family tragedy, I called to rearrange my tickets for the firework event and was shown no sympathy or compassion. I was told I would have to pay further money and they were so unbelievably unhelpful. Awful service, communication and absolute lack of any emotion whatsoever so ever - all they care about is the money. Awful.
Longleat lights festival
Was loving the Christmas decorations and taking pictures before it got busy, we didn’t know where to go but staff were nice and helpful but we saw most of the animals by the main square. It was lovely going on the safari drive we got to see all the animals and then the lights after was amazing. Downside TOILETS! need a lot more even if they where temporary ones and the little train ride I asked to go but was told fully booked for months even tho I saw empty seats, it was a long long journey would have been nice to have an opportunity go on.
Paper plates!
This one star review is for the restaurant. you are not "saving the planet" by using revolting paper plates and tacky wooden forks. We were having our normal lovely day out at Longleat, the guide in the house was brilliant, the man on the boat very entertaining, then lunch.
The plates had been replaced with cardboard, one of my friends spent ages chasing the plate around the table because he had a jacket potato which he couldn't cut with the wooden fork, my soup was in a paper cup, so I had to drink it, there was no option to spoon it.
You are spoiling a good experience for the sake of saving money on a few staff members stacking dishwashers.
I have visited every year for as long as I can remember, but won't be going again.
Terrible Santa
Terrible Santa - not worth the money! Beard kept falling down and straps visible. Do not waste your money going to this!!!!! Terrible customer service. Ruined the whole day, children questioned everything after visiting. Not enough cover when waiting in the rain. Little to keep the children entertained when queuing for 30 minutes. The staff, elves, show little interest. Spend your money on a different experience! Lapland UK was a fraction more and worth every penny!
Terrible custmer service
Terrible custmer service. Cannot believe they are still running when over 50% of their reviews are ONE STAR! We booked this only on Tuesday 25 Nov and a family member fell ill. We are not local and live a long way from Longleat. We asked for a refund and were told a flat out NO. Only thing you can do is change the date. But as we are not local and won't be there again for forseeable future another date is no good to us. So we asked if we could transfer the tickets to our son and his wife who live within the distance. Again a BIG FAT NO from their so called and losely named Customer Services. NEVER EVER WOULD I go there and or purchase from them and buyers beware...when a service has over 50% ONE STAR reviews, that is BAD
After my daughter's car broke down
After my daughter's car broke down, I found a Longleat employee,(Tanya) and told her what had happened. She was super helpful and got us some jump leads, which although didn't solve the car problem, she made the effort to stay with us until Eloise arrived and drove us out of the car park against the flow of the traffic to a safer place. The car was later fixed by RAC. Well done to both girls for a very efficient manner and exceptional customer service support. If I could give you both more than an A+++ each, then I really would. Thank you so much.
Payed £192.00 for a day ticket to go to…
Payed £192.00 for a day ticket to go to longleat. African village was all closed apart from the African wild painted dogs which were indoors. Most of the animals in the safari were locked away so basically just drove through without seeing anything. Didnt get to go on the boat as it was over an hours wait in queue. The only thing we did was the bat cave and rocking rhino. The maze, playground and lorikeets etc were all closed eary when it was still daylight due to lights being turned on early. Wish we had just payed for the lights as it was a waste of money getting the day ticket. Will not be going again. Really disappointed seen as the train and house is at an extra cost also.
Fantastic!
I booked an aardvark VIP for my 60th birthday. Omg what a great experience, the keeper was lovely and friendly and I totally fell in love with Frankie and Benny the aardvarks. I would definitely book another one. The rest of the day was just as brilliant. The safari was awesome, although all the residents seemed to just want to sunbath, it wasn’t a problem, after all they are wild animals. Didn’t go into the monkey enclosure as I knew how they can deconstruct a car in a matter of seconds. Plenty of warnings about this before you go in so no excuse to moan about it afterwards! And monkeys are not “malicious “ that’s a human trait! Loads to do, loads to see, great knowledgeable staff and beautiful surroundings. It’s a no brainer, just a great day out! Thanks Longleat staff for making my special day even better ❤️
PS: just a heads up, no cash accepted in the park, only card transactions
Got wrong time for VIP experience and missed out. No option to rebook. Wasted £250
Bought 2 VIP giraffe experiences for my son and his girlfriend. They booked to go in August but mistakenly got the wrong time and turned up late. They missed the experience. They didn't receive anything once they got there, nothing towards their trip that day etc. I emailed to ask if they could rebook it. I know it was their error but it's an expensive gift and Longleat know they hadn't had the experience. I just received an email saying no, and that they reserved the right to cancel the tour with no refund if you're more than 10 minutes late. It was a genuine error so I'm gutted that I've wasted £250, and really shocked by the customer service.
I enjoyed a good day out with family BUT ..
I enjoyed a good day out with family today. However, I strongly advise others to bypass the Monkeys section of the Safari Park because there is a very high risk they will cause malicious damage to your car. We saw this happening to many cars, probably the majority. We saw damage to windscreen/rear wipers, parking sensors, rubber trim and even wing mirrors. After emerging from the Safari visit we inspected my car to check what damage they had done. Both rear parking sensors had been prised out and chewed off their cabling. There are warning signs that the monkeys can damage cars so you have no recourse. This warning understates the high risk you face.
Longleat Safari Park is an Fantastic Day Out – Worth More Than One Visit…
Longleat Safari Park is an incredible experience from start to finish. The safari itself is amazing and full of unforgettable moments, and the staff really add to it with their good humour and friendly banter. On the train and boat rides everyone waves, creating a brilliant atmosphere that makes the day even more enjoyable.
The house is stunning and well worth taking the time to explore. Everything was spotless, the staff were welcoming and helpful, and the shops were reasonably priced for a tourist attraction.
My only regret is that we tried to fit it all into one day – there is simply too much to see and do. I would definitely recommend planning for two days to take it all in properly. A fantastic place for families and anyone who wants a fun, memorable and well-run day out.
