I’ve used them for over two years, they’re great
I’ve only had to call them twice over the years I’ve been with them, both just general queries (ie whats the highest amount they would match my pension payments?) and they’ve been amazing, clear and thorough both times. I’ve never had a late payment and the payslip is always on time and clear. They app may not be appealing to the eye but it is simple and has everything I have needed thusfar!!

Deductible fees were too much you end taking peanuts home after that compared to some other umbrella company apart that their service is excellent, staffing great , management great.I never witnessed my holiday pay neither did I see it reflected on my money due to deductibles.

When you contacted us about this matter, our team responded in under an hour and investigated the issue immediately. Once the error was identified, the payment was corrected and refunded within approximately 1.5 hours of the initial email.

A good option if you're with an agency.
Paid correctly and on time until the final two weeks.
Friendly and helpful staff.

I lost money when my agency swapped to…
I lost money when my agency swapped to MainPay. My weekly pay packet dropped by close to £100 as a full time supply teacher. MainPay make you pay a number of fees that are difficult to understand and ultimately lead to a drop in your take home pay. These included an apprenticeship fee and an admin fee. The employers NI is taken from your money and the increase in the day rate from the agency was no where near enough to cover it, resulting in an overall loss and and an immediate swap back to PAYE for me. Their rep calls you when the agency makes the change and tries to explain everything but it is difficult to understand because ultimately they are trying to present a loss to you with a positive spin, which they cannot justify.

We understand how frustrating it is to see a drop in earnings, particularly when working full-time, and we appreciate that umbrella arrangements can feel complex. The deductions you mention — including employer National Insurance and statutory contributions — are required under current UK legislation and apply across all compliant umbrella companies. However, we recognise that this can be confusing sometimes and do our best to clearly explain this.
Our team aims to explain these changes transparently during onboarding calls, but we acknowledge that this information can be difficult to absorb and that the outcome matters more than the explanation. We respect your decision to return to PAYE, and we’re sorry that MainPay was not the right fit for you.
Your feedback is valuable and will be shared internally to help us improve how we communicate pay structures and expectations in the future. We wish you all the best in your ongoing work.

The overall service is quite good and they have polite staff as well.
However, they should review the admin fee. Its quite high in my opinion.

Competent, friendly and reliable
MainPay was the payroll agent for the agency through which I worked until recently as a Learning Support Assistant for nearly a year. Their payslips were accurate and easy to understand, and their communication were always prompt, friendly and helpful. Particular thanks to Claudine for proactively making sure I got my P45 (which I'd forgotten about!) when I switched to a permanent job.
