I rented a student house from Manchester Student Houses and had a generally decent relationship with the landlord throughout the year. Issues like a broken fence and a leaking dishwasher were fixed fairly quickly, which was appreciated.
However, the experience at the end of the tenancy was very disappointing. One of their workers entered my housemate’s room completely unannounced and without any prior warning, a clear breach of privacy. There was no apology or acknowledgment from the landlord afterwards.
We were then charged for a “full clean” of a room due to minor things like smudges on a mirror and a bit of dust on frames, which felt unreasonable. Considering we paid rent for the entire year and that a basic clean is typically expected between tenants, the additional charge seemed unnecessarily strict and overly exacting.
After paying a significant amount to rent the property, it was frustrating to be treated this way at the end. I would advise future tenants to be cautious, take photos, and keep thorough records.
