Extremely frustrating experience
Extremely frustrating experience– I should have read the product page more carefully but according to the main box on the product page, my device is esim compatible. If I had dug further into some obscured drop down menus, I would have seen that I also needed my phone to be unlocked. Again, my fault, but it seems reasonable that I could get a refund since I didn't use the esim and noticed the mistake and reached out immediately. They let me know promptly that they don't offer refunds in this situation which feels like a pretty scummy way to make $26.

The eSim had excellent network coverage in Japan
The eSim had excellent network coverage during my entire trip to Japan (Tokyo, Hakone, Kamakura, Nara, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima).
If you have initial problems with the network, it is best to enter the settings manually.

It's a scam!
Tourists, be careful, this service is a scam! They promise the world but the Internet is absolutely slow, close to zero-speed downloads. Their only benefit towards their competitors is the fact they provide foreigners a number, but you should definitely ignore this and go for a more suitable provider.
I signed up for Voice + Data SIM Card and followed all their setting steps. They say it's a 4G service but you receive something more like a GPRS/Edge.
It's a scam and the Governnment should do something about this!

I bought a SIM card along with a number on March 2025 , two months before arriving in Japan . Yes the customer service may be responsive but the rest sucks . The service , coverage and the pricing is absolutely horrible. I bought an eSIM as I wanted to have access to my US number . Somehow the coverage and the communication wasn’t clear on how to have both on . So at times I had to turn off my US eSIM to get Mobil lousy coverage. Texts weren’t going through and I am talking about locally . I then realized the price I was charged which is very high didn’t cover calls or texts . I left Japan a month ago and de activated the phone a month before leaving, and I am being charged still . Basically I had the phone for two months and I have paid for this damn service since March . Basically 5 months. Never used the phone as I was so frustrated and gave up. I would never ever use Mobal again . It’s not the best choice . I supplì have just used my US number which would have been much cheaper .

The company did what it said it would…
The company did what it said it would at the price that it said. No nasty surprises. It delivered the wifi box quickly and setup was easy. I always felt in control. Clean, simple, easy - no hard sell - it just works. It gave me notice by email of the deadline to change or cancel my contract (the 20th of the month). Recommended, and I will use it again.

Great Company who supports charities
Ordered a sim card for calls and data for Japan. Item was delivered promptly along with good instructions, my phone was all set to go as soon as I landed in Osaka. Which was lucky as needed it to contact the driver on arrival. Excellent communications, easy to use, and love the fact that Mobal give back to communities/charities etc. They aren't just in it for themselves which was one of the reasons I opted for mobal. Having now used them I am definitely using them for my next trip to Japan. Such excellent service/support/product was great never any issues with coverage and as a bonus they help people - what's not to love ❤️🙏🏻❤️

I've been a customer for almost two years now and i've never had a single issue using this company for my phone and data. Mobal is a great company.Their prices are very low and their service is amazing. I have a true japanese phone number which makes life much easier when trying to get an apartment or other things for long term stays in japan. Without them life would be a lot more stressful, even when I become a full Japanese citizen. I will most likely continue using their services because I see no reason to switch since it works so well.

Ho acquistato una SIM permanente qualche mese fa, a differenza delle eSIM o quelle a tempo determinato ho atteso qualche ora dal ritiro per l’attivazione effettiva, non che sia stato un grande problema. La parte un po’ più ostica è stato impostare APN etc…
Da quanto ho potuto constatare dai miei viaggi che ho fatto per il paese, la connettività è buona, sia nelle grandi città che in campagna.

Charges full cost even for just a few days, no early cancellation
Will charge you the full cost of a month of usage even if you only use it for the first couple of days of the new month. Over the last 10 months my connection has been below standard, especially for the cost of the sim.
I do not recommend unless you can manage without data from the first of the month until your departure, to avoid paying the full amount just for a couple days of usage. A ridiculous and very sneaky way of taking customers money. Customer service also takes days to respond, will not be using Mobal again.

Easy activation and installation
I purchased an eSIM for 31 days with 10GB of data. The activation and installation process on my Android phone was straightforward. The customer service team was very helpful in guiding me through the installation. It was convenient that I could activate and install the eSIM while I was still in England, allowing me to start using the data as soon as we landed in Japan.

Poor speeds
We used the service for 3 months from Osaka to Tokyo. Installing the Esim is different to the regular sim and you need to ensure you download the right esim profile as there are a few options on their website
The main issue I have is that speeds are pretty poor. Alot of the times it can take 30 secs to 1 min for my Google map to process a location i want to go to or looking at reviews for a place I have to wait a while for the photos to appear
I will not be using their service again. The speed is slower than 3g for sure when I used it. I followed their instructions

Phone Compatibility re Volte
Received Sim and installed it - had data but had problem with receiving voice calls. This was due to the age of my phone. There are notes on the website about this, but the issue could perhaps be made clearer, since SoftBank upgraded its system last year (before that I had no problem using the same phone to make and receive calls in Japan).

Very easy and intuitive mobile website…
Very easy and intuitive mobile website and ordering experience. The Wifi hotspot I ordered arrived quickly and was easy to setup with my phones. The 4g is a bit slower than my 5g home service, but adequate for most situations. Battery on the unit lasts about 6-8 hours with moderate usage.

Great Experience
Hello,
I had a great experience with Mobal. At first I had a slight issue and it was a user error on my part. I contacted the Mobal support team via email and they were very responsive in resolving my issue. Since I’m not a tech savvy person they walked me through the steps. I’m very grateful for their patience and support.
All the best to Mobal and the support team. I will use them on my next vacation venture.
