I would like to start by thanking all the staff at National Motoring Lawyers for their dedication in helping me with a case that caused me sleepless nights and feelings of hopelessness. Mr Stephen Parker, who represented me, was incredibly supportive throughout the proceedings. He ensured my well-being by providing me with hope during times when I had lost it. My case was ultimately dismissed, and I credit all of that success to National Motoring Lawyers.

In some respects my experience with this company has already been exposed by other clients on many occasions and so I dont feel that I need to do anything other than highlight the same. For example, the 11th hour email the day before the hearing stating that no advocates were available at the originally agreed price, but that they had managed to secure a more senior representative at a higher price as long as payment was made by return. I can see that some clients complain that the company will not let them end the client solicitor agreement, because once they are instructed they have a duty to remain on the court record and only a good reason will allow them to end their appointment. In my case, the opposite was the case that they are arguing, despite the fact that I paid them to represent me at a hearing, they sent a one line email to the court stating that they would not be at the hearing, no reason or justiification was given for the same, I was not even copied in to the email.

This firm is not one that I would recommend and neither even is it one that I would recommend if you only had a choice between them and a 5 year old child whose only historical family association with legal matters was a distant cousin that lived next door to the secretary of someone who studied law for one term at university before changing to philosophy! I have no doubt that some of the reviews are genuine, after all, you are dealing with evidence provided by police officers! However, I can't see why anyone would post a fake review about a company they knew nothing about that just so happened to mirror my experience of dealing with the company. All the 1 star reviews are correct!

I hope that they respond to this review with their usual pro forma rhetoric because I will then prove everything that I have set out above with evidence of the same. By the way, they also respond to reviews by breaching client confidentiality!

Response to NML 10/03/26:

I note from your negative reviews that it is likely that you increase your fees more than just "occasionally", but in any event, you only notified me in the afternoon of the last working day before the hearing. Also, you state that it is common for solicitors to withdraw from cases due to not being placed in funds, you also respond to other negative reviews by claiming that you have to remain on the court record unless you have a good reason for coming off the same "solicitors are not permitted to withdraw from cases without good reason.". Increasing your fixed and paid for costs at 4pm on the day before a hearing would not constitute a good reason and neither should you be allowed to do so without informing the client.
For the record, whilst you can respond to clients reviews, confidentiality and privilege is not waived by the client and the SRA specifically state you can only do so "provided that you do not disclose any further details beyond that which the client has disclosed.". Your response to one of your previous client's who has also complained about your firm on here on Jul 23, 2025 is an outrageous breach against your clients rights, where you stated

"You then sent an email shortly before the trial on 04/07/25 at follows

‘Due to my critical financial situation is it possible that I won’t be able to pay any fees before Court trial. Can I get a free solicitor on trial if this happens?"

I have not made any financial demands to you, all I have done is requested that you refund me the unused costs that I paid you on account for the work that you have not undertaken. My negative review directly relates to your failure to return my money to me, the point I was making was that if this was returned then my review to some extent would have been mitigated by you in respect of the extent of your negligent failings. I would suggest that it is you who needs to take legal advice because my next step is to complain to the SRA about your conduct and also escalate my complaint to the Legal Ombudsman, who will expect you to provide the documents that I have requested but which you have ignored. Dont worry, I will happily provide an update on this review in due course.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Exceptional Legal Support – Worth Every Penny

We cannot thank NML enough for the incredible support and dedication they showed throughout our case, which lasted over a year.

At the beginning, the first solicitor we were assigned unfortunately didn’t engage as much as we had hoped. Although they attended on time, the level of support and communication wasn’t what we expected. However, everything completely changed at the second hearing when Mr David Houldcroft represented us.

From the very first moment, Mr Houldcroft was outstanding. His communication was exceptional — he kept us fully informed, constantly went into the courtroom to update us on timings and progress, and explained everything clearly and calmly. After the hearing, he took the time to explain the next steps and possible outcomes in terms we could fully understand, which made a huge difference to our confidence and peace of mind.

Because of his professionalism and dedication, we decided to upgrade our package with NML to Gold so that Mr Houldcroft could represent us at every hearing. He worked closely alongside our reviewing lawyer, Sandra, to ensure every detail of the case was thoroughly prepared and spot on.

After multiple hearings and several court adjournments, we are delighted to say that we won our case. It was not easy, but thanks to the incredible work of the NML team — especially Mr Houldcroft — justice was achieved.

This review reflects my personal experience.

I instructed National Motoring Lawyers for a drink driving matter and paid significant fees on the understanding I would receive specialist representation.

For my first hearing, I was represented by a duty solicitor acting on the firm’s behalf, which was not what I expected when instructing a private specialist firm.

In the lead-up to trial, communication was difficult and inconsistent. I struggled to obtain clear updates about case preparation and strategy.

The day before trial, I received a message stating two key witnesses were not attending and that the case would likely be adjourned or dismissed. This did not happen. The case proceeded and I received a 20-month disqualification and £420 fine.

On the day of trial, I did not feel that a clear defence strategy had been prepared or fully advanced on my behalf. Certain evidence, in my view, was not challenged as thoroughly as I had expected given the fees paid.

Following the outcome, I have been advised to pay further fees to pursue an appeal and upgrade service level.

I am raising a formal complaint and will be escalating matters to the Legal Ombudsman.

I encourage anyone considering instructing this firm to ask detailed questions about representation, preparation, and communication before proceeding.

I will be fighting to get my money back harder than they did for me in my case.

My representative was great and get straight to the point. As a result the case was dropped 11 months before my next hearing.. brilliant news

This was my first time seeking out lawyers and I must say that I'm truly impressed by the level of professionalism displayed by the team. I was arrested for being over the drink drive limit 9 months ago. I contacted NML immediately and received a call from Laura Heywood. She was very reassuring and I am so glad I used NML.
Laura was my reviewing lawyer and I’m sure at times I drove her crazy with my panicking emails! She was great and answered all my queries in a timely fashion. Sue (my caseworker) who I dealt with directly - she put all the info together for Laura-) was an absolute delight to deal with, very compassionate in a highly stressful situation.

I honestly can’t fault the work at NML. I was arrested for DD with a breath reading of 55. From initial conversation with Sandra Cooper who has been extremely helpful throughout the whole process and replied to all my emails in a timely manner. A MASSIVE thank you to David Houldcroft, who made me feel at ease the whole time, was absolutely wonderful at answering all questions and managed to get the best outcome. I was looking at a hefty fine and a potential 16 month ban, however David managed to secure a 9 month ban and a smaller fine than i was expecting. I can’t fault his work and his commitment to his job as the weather on the day of court (snow) was terrible. Thank you David for the reassurance, support and knowledge. When I contacted NML my first contact was Sandra Cooper who was incredible with me she was patient, helpful and took the time to fully understand the case. Also Susan who works closely with Sandra provided incredible help. I am really pleased with the service I’ve received from NML and would recommend them to anyone who is in the unfortunate position of requiring their services. Deal with these lot at your own peril. I had to keep calling the phone and forcing them to find me representation on court day. They sent one who knew nothing about the case, then on the last hearing, I finally got contact from a lawyer almost 2hrs after my case was due to be called. The results I’ll leave it here…..to them it’s about the money and not your case. If they had put enough effort in the cases like they do chasing the payments, maybe a 2 star will be worthy.
DO NOT GO TO THEM!!!!

Following my review, I was contacted last week by the accounts team and offered a waiver on an outstanding trial preparation charge. Good on them, and thanks to the team for listening to customer's grievances.

These guys have been absolutely amazing and I have had the biggest worry for a whole year of my life and national motoring lawyers have saved my license and my life I honestly could not recommend anyone better

I reached out to National Motor & Lawyers over the Christmas period when most other firms were closed. I was first contacted by Laura. She explained the process clearly and honestly from the start, without trying to make it sound easier than it is like some adverts do. She was upfront about both the positives and the challenges, which I really appreciated, and she showed genuine empathy throughout.

Later on, my case was handled by case worker Michael, who was also very supportive. The only thing I would mention is that the solicitors manage a lot of clients at the same time, so sometimes things can feel a little last minute, but it is clear they are doing their best to keep everything moving.

I also worked with Jake later on for the cost reclaims , and he has been absolutely brilliant, super clear, friendly, and quick to respond. He has made the final part of the process a lot less stressful.

Overall, I would recommend National Motoring Lawyers, especially if you take the time to do your own research and ask questions early on. Especially around the expected costs and experience of working with the experts they provide . The process is not always easy, it can be stressful and emotional at times, but with the right communication they do a good job.

I was charged with several serious driving offences aswell as failure to provide specimen of blood for alcohol. I opted for the platinum / gold service as the case was complicated.
Needless to say all the team from NML (National Motoring Lawyers) was fantastic.
From the initial Conversation with Sandra Cooper to Jay Lemosa who represented myself at a not guilt plea. Fantastic.
For my trial date to my surprise they sent Philip Lucas who was nothing more than fantastic and more importantly supportive to the situation.
Without going into to much detail but he was brilliant in the court room and getting the case dismissed.
The old saying that you pay for what you get comes true here.
Any review that says they aren’t professional or don’t know what they are doing is talking NONSENSE.
