Appalling

Took out an insurance policy with Saga and am realising how apt their name is as it is proving to be a real one. I wanted to make a date amendment and assumed this would be straightforward but I have so far rung 5 times, each time waiting the 'up to 72 hours' they specify for them to get back to me, but they never do and the problem remains unresolved. I think the final straw came when I asked to speak to a Manager and was told it would take up to 72 hours.. Am now seething even more after reading the generic response to this review. Did you read any of it!? Why would I ring you AGAIN?? I am presently 24 hours into another 'up to 72 hour' period in which time you are yet again supposed to be calling me back....

Bought cruise travel insurance for…

Bought cruise travel insurance for around the canaries. 5 star defacto rated saga plus policy . It had a 25% reduction offer so made it cheapest 5 star rated. Had a missed port on itinerary so rang saga who accepted claim and money was in account within 2 days. Faultless

My 86 year old mother was quoted a home…

My 86 year old mother was quoted a home insurance renewal of almost £600 for this year. I rang Saga and told them this was extortionate and they were only able to reduce the cost by £60. So I cancelled the renewal. Why does this company take advantage of loyal customers? I went to age uk and took out a policy of £220 on her behalf. My mother has never made a claim and I’m disgusted.

I made a terrible mistake taking my car…

I made a terrible mistake taking my car insurance out with saga insurance for the very first time, weeks before my current insurance expired. While I was away from my address a letter arrived from them regarding proof of no claims history from my previous insurance. Unfortunately by the time I got to read the letter they had already cancelled my insurance and organised a refund. 🙃 I think that was a mean move and also charged me a fee as if I was some sort of criminal.Im now left wondering if there actions will damage my clean record.
They simply don't care about other people. Heartless avoid them 💔 😪.
Just to update saga insurance did not phone me back as they promised on the 5th of March.
Further update saga provides a reply to my review to make it look as if they care. No you Will get arogonce and deniel .But there is an alternative to saga insurance.
Why do I have to give them one star, it should be zero zero zero zero zero

Car insurance quote system a failure

Just filled out car insurance details, very long set of questions. All ticked. At the end "We're sorry we can't provide you with a quote today
Unfortunately, our current underwriting criteria doesn't allow us to offer you a quote today."
Completely unacceptable and a total wate of time.

Annual travel policy problematic. Rude and arbitrary termination.

Whilst I have greatly appreciated and enjoyed the cruises and have no adverse criticism there I had an annual travel insurance. It was abruptly suddenly and really rather rudely.cancelled. When I phoned up to tell them that I had an angiogram and the stent (3 1/2 years old and which they knew about) had been inspected and found to be slightly blocking. It was then on the spot repaired. My consultant told me that I would be fit to travel after 10 days.
The saga insurance agent whom I phoned up just said write your policy is cancelled from now. I had thought that I had an annual policy based upon my health information at the time of purchase and with the reasonable request that I kept them updated. I had thought that this was a contract between them and myself for the term of a year. Not a bit of it they can cancel whenever they like. Therefore, it is a very unstable insurance not what I expected nor what I imagine you if you were thinking of this would require.

Failure to cancel auto renewal lead to unauthorised charge.

My house insurance premium increased by £650 with no claims or change of circumstances. My wife rang Saga 3 weeks before the renewal date and asked for the auto renewal to be turned off as we would be getting insurance elsewhere. Two days after the renewal date we received an email telling us Saga had reinsured us. We are not happy and are demanding our premium back as we are now insured with another company at less than half the cost of Saga and a better policy.

Saga: £497 policy worthless despite FCDO safety warning

I booked my trip August 2025 and have been a loyal SAGA travel insurance customer, paying £497 for a policy specifically to cover my travel to India via Abu Dhabi. Following the FCDO update on 28th February 2026 advising against travel, Saga is now using a "War" exclusion to avoid paying a legitimate claim. I am being told I cannot travel safely, yet I am being refused a refund. Is this how Saga treats its 73 year old policyholders? Claim 833559.

In response: I have made a claim that you are tryig to deny and I have a complaint regarding that - This is no way to treat your elderly customers. Catch 22 - I am denied cover if I fly but if I don't fly you deny the claim!!

This claim has totally been denied - no help whatsoever and I am thousands of pounds out of pocket. NEVER again will I use the company that is supposed to look after vulnerable people of age!

It only takes 30 minutes to get to talk…

It only takes 30 minutes to get to talk to them, then your transferred to the right people who don't answer the phone 2pm to 230 pm so not break time wanted to stop the renewal of my policy will need to contact bank to stop the money coming out you can not cancel the Renewal until they send out the next quote 28 days before you insurance runs out can not cancel online but the people when you get to talk to them are nice and helpful. so dont go on holiday for a couple of months around the renewal date

Total Fail

Super hard to get hold of any customer service. Online chat doesn't work and you have to hold for at least 15 minutes before getting through to anyone, who most likely can't help you. We had a car insured through them and told them we were not going ahead with the renewal. They renewed anyway and took the money from our account. V hard getting it cancelled and refunded. In fact, I'm still not sure it has been. The refund definitely hasn't been received yet.

Update: The complaints link on their website works! They called this morning.

Absolute joke of a company !!!!

Absolute joke of a company !!!!! They've sent me an email 7 weeks before my policy runs out then get left on the phone listening to T-rex which cuts in and out somewhere in India or Iran and put through to some call centre in china or india that you cant understand most of it to be told ring back 2 weeks before its due and they bang the price up !!!!!! Absolute piss take. Well guess what ? Im going to gilbralter in May and ill find the piss taking CEO where hes based. IF YOU DONT RENEW SOONER THE MORE YOUR QUOTE IS. ABSOLUTE JOKE !!!😤😤😤😤😤😤

Terrible

Terrible website. Unable to update policy owing to an error message in place for two days. A wait of half an hour on the phone then passed around to four different advisors for a simple change of car insurance enquiry. One was obviously chewing during our conversation.

Total communications disaster

Total communications disaster at their webspace and telephone network. Attempted to cancel a motor policy as I found 25% cheaper price for same cover at AXA, but SAGA cancellation process requires using the 'chat bot' which is unaccessible from a 'logged-in' page. Attempted to use a 'phone, but their network is so congested that after 2 minutes on messages all you hear is a distorted and broken up noise that could be music in a foreign tongue. Reverted to webspace, without logging on and discovered a 'chat bot'link that worked. Many thanks to Kieron for instantly cancelling motor policy, and refunding more than I anticipated. If not for Kieron this rating would be 1 star.

Customer service - claims

Bit of a flip flop on this. Having given a poor review two days ago (I do think the claims experience at weekend could be improved i.e. staffed for routine claims), I today had a positive experience. The person I spoke to was very helpful and efficient. I was listened to. Next time I will sit on it before sending a review straightaway!
