Its dissapointing to see the reviews on here as my experience was so different.
I visited the Tralee store several weeks ago. To be fair I did not need an eye test I just wanted new glasses.
The sales representative was Sean. I can not speak highly enough about him.
He did not pressure me into a purchase.
He was honest, patient, and yet very quick in writing everything up for me. He even explained different lenses to me and my friend.
Honestly he made me feel very comfortable and because he was not pushy, I trusted him.
Thanks.
Specsavers White Lion Street Norwich. Went for checkup today. In-store personnel were lovely polite friendly when having initial tests done. Then I had a video checkup which was appalling. So impersonal, he never smiled didn't look interested, main interest was selling extras. Didn't enjoy it at all, will look for somewhere else

Hi, I went to Specsavers with my wife and mother-in-law, all three for new glasses.. I spent 10 minutes picking glasses for myself with the assistant beside me, once I picked out the glasses she magically pulled out a pair of glasses and said these are nearly the same as what you picked and they're special glasses that flex and don't break, I said ok as we'd been in the shop for an hour and I was getting tired, unfortunately I didn't try them on.. they weigh a ton, I never mentioned anything about breaking glasses to her, they're Specsaver brand glasses that they're pushing and to be honest in an underhanded way as in if a customer had taken the time to choose glasses well then be respectful and don't do what I felt was a slight of hand swap while walking to the counter.. I spent another 350 getting a colour on the glasses which I would have lost if I availed of the 3 month swap guarantee if you're not happy.. the Specsavers glasses are a very heavy build and clunky.. I'm stuck with them until my eyesight gets worse and need to change..
Partially my fault for trusting a sales person but that type of thing only happens to me in Harvey Norman but I expect it there....
My reply to reply..
I've no access to 'DM' on any social media networks.. just wondering do your employees get commission for talking the customers into swapping the glasses they'd carefully chosen for the heavy Specsavers glasses they pull out of nowhere as the customer heads to the counter, this would explain the eagerness of the salesperson for the swap... Once again, my fault for not being vigilant as to why they would have a pair of Specsavers glasses in they're hand waiting for the customer to finish choosing the glasses of their choice..

I had an absolutely awful experience at the Specsavers Portlaoise store.
I was on holiday and had accidentally forgotten my contact lenses. As I get my lenses through the Easycare delivery service with Specsavers, I called into the Portlaoise branch hoping they could provide me with an emergency supply. I was able to provide all of my account details, but I was told they couldn't help unless they received an email from my usual Specsavers store.
What made the whole situation even more frustrating was that they then offered to sell me contact lenses to match the prescription for the glasses I was wearing! If they could do that, why couldn't they access my existing prescription and provide an emergency supply?
After leaving with no help whatsoever, I rang my local Specsavers store. They couldn't understand why the Portlaoise branch hadn't been able to assist me and were just as surprised by the response I received.
There were only two staff members and the optician in the store on a Sunday morning, and it wasn't busy. Unfortunately, they seemed completely tied to a bureaucratic process, with no willingness to use common sense or show any flexibility to help a genuine customer in need.
Specsavers might want to rethink their "pop into any of our stores" message, because that certainly wasn't my experience. I certainly won't be relying on Specsavers' "any store" promise again.
Absolutely disgraceful customer service.

I went for ear wax removal several weeks ago. As a result, I have tinnitus from the microsuction procedure which was evident immediately. When I went back a week later to see if someone could look at my ear, i was told that
" We just remove the wax, see your GP if you have any problems"
I would not recommend this micro suction procedure to anyone for ear wax removal, especially for older people, who ears would be more susceptible to problems.
I cannot send a DM as I don't use those platforms.

Charged for scan I didn’t consent to, questioned the price for an adult exam I said I thought it was €30 told no that’s a child price , until I got receipt and it said adult exam €30 scan €25 . Also telling Prsi patients that there exam is €25 instead of €55 , no , Prsi exam is free quoting for scan but not informing patients. Very unprofessional behaviour

I was told "That is what you get for buying contacts online", when presenting with an eye infection to the Tralee store. When I went back to make a complaint I was further ridiculed with statements like "You can't afford €35 per month?" regarding the contact lenses by a staff member I wasn't speaking to. Further comments were made to me such as "Make a complaint if you want to make a complaint", "There are plenty other opticians on the street" and "Don't come back" after being asked to leave the store. When I emailed Specsavers to make a formal complaint they did not address any of the comments made to me and hid behind policy rather than address the issues raised. The customer care team were just as dismissive in not addressing the apalling behaviour of the Retail Director and staff at the store

No transparency, No prescription, Hidden fees, aggressive selling. No fault with staff who appear attentive and helpful but behind this lies very aggressive selling techniques where every helpful recommendation comes with an accompanying fee.
My own experience resulted in a my free govt eye test converting to €500+ with frames and lens. More revenue potential for Spec-Spenders when they discovered I also used contacts and a contact lens consultation was scheduled for when I picked up glasses. When they discovered I was no longer on the repeat lens mail list they wanted to charge me €60 for 30 second check.
My recommendation is to ensure you receive a written eye prescription at end of your eye test, walk away and shop around.

The main issue is the wait. 4 staff chatting and walking around an 11 am appt seen at 11.20am - no queue no sense of urgency- no busy atmosphere. Actual service was okay a pleasant enough young woman - the optician did no fit testing but did sign her glasses off. Again very pleasant but I didn’t understand why it was necessary for a sign off it he didn’t even approach my daughter in her new glasses. Wait times are poor, customer service is good when you are actually being dealt with - Walsall branch

Excellent service from Mary at Specsavers in sligo! She was so friendly, helpful, and professional, and made what I thought would be a dreaded experience quick, easy, and even enjoyable. She explained everything clearly and made me feel completely at ease. A real credit to the team—thank you, Mary!

We recently visited one of the branches for a regular eye test and were charged €55. When paying initially we questioned the price as we had believed it was €30 for a normal eye test. We were told that no it was in fact €55. Upon looking at the receipt afterwards we noticed that the eye test was indeed €30 and there was an extra charge of €25 for the oct scan which we did not opt to do. We were overcharged and have since called the branch and we will be refunded. However this additional charge being added on without our consent or acknowledgment is wrong. I really worry about how many elderly and vulnerable people have been unknowingly overcharged by this, as while we were there we could overhear staff members on the phone confirming patients and mentioning the price of €55 and €25 for prsi. Prsi should fully cover the normal eye test expense and the members of staff did not highlight why there was an extra charge. This issue needs to be highlighted as it is scamming people out of their hard earned money.

Had my hearing aids from Specsavers cruises street Limerick in July 2024, all was good until May 2026 when there was an issue with my left hearing aid, the very helpful Sheila replaced a part she called the wire, this repair worked but then another fault developed with the left hearing aid so Sheila arranged for them both to be changed on 3rd June, they were replaced one at a time so that i was not without both, each took approximately a week to change, all was good until this week, less than a month later when the left hearing aid fell to pieces as i picked it up from the case. I attended an appointment today and saw Amy who was very poor in terms of communication and who suggested i had dropped it, and said curtly there was nothing she could do other than send it away. Amy assured me the replacement would have been brand new, if so, it fell to pieces in less than a month. So here i am with one hearing aid for the third time in a month.
The dates quoted were given to me by Amy from her system.
If i still had the option to return them and get my PRSI credit back and go somewhere else i would.
Let's see what happens this time.
I have a further appointment already booked for Thursday 16th July as i am going on holiday on 17th and would obviously hope to take both hearing aids on holiday. This gives them 13 days to resolve it. Specsavers tend to ask me to contact them via social media to resolve things but as i don't use social media there is no point.
The reply asking me to contact them on social media is probably AI generated, i would have hoped a human being would have read that i don't use social media as stated above, round and round we go.....

I went to purchase one pair of glasses for computer work and another pair for distance vision. Instead, I was encouraged to try varifocals, which I agreed to despite my initial reservations.
From the moment I received them, I could barely see through them. My vision was blurry, particularly in my right eye, and I found them far too dangerous to wear while driving. When I returned to explain this, I felt my concerns were dismissed. I was told, "Well, we see with two eyes," and that I simply needed to get used to the tilting and head movements required with varifocals. I explained repeatedly that I couldn't see properly with both eyes at all, but I felt as though my concerns were not being taken seriously.
The varifocals were then changed to standard distance lenses. Unfortunately, I still couldn't see properly through these either. By this stage, I had spent €370 on glasses that were completely unusable.
I had to return yet again, leaving work early for a 4:30 pm appointment, believing I was having another eye examination. Instead, only a brief check was carried out, and I was asked to return the following day, meaning I had to leave work early for a second time. It was only then that I was told I had been given the wrong prescription. I don't know the technical terminology, but I was told my prescription should have been 108 and I had instead been given 180. This explained why I had been unable to see properly all along.
What is most disappointing is that, rather than investigating my concerns from the beginning, I felt I was repeatedly made to believe that the problem was simply that I needed to "get used to" the lenses. In reality, the prescription itself was incorrect.
I also had to ask twice for a refund of the price difference between the varifocals and the standard distance lenses. This should have been offered automatically once the varifocals were returned.
Another major frustration was that, during my original eye test, I clearly explained that I wanted glasses specifically for computer work. Yet when I returned on my second visit, I was told, "Sure, they won't help you with the computer." If that was the case, why was I sold glasses that were unsuitable for the purpose I had clearly explained? As someone who is short-sighted, I was effectively sold reading glasses when that was not what I needed.
Overall, this has been a frustrating and disappointing experience from start to finish. I originally ordered these glasses in February, and it is now 1 July. I am still waiting another possible ten days before I may finally receive glasses that are correct.
I have been a loyal Specsavers customer for at least 25 years, but unfortunately this experience has completely undermined my confidence. The poor communication, repeated mistakes, dismissive attitude towards my concerns, and the amount of time and inconvenience involved mean this will be my last visit .
@Specsavers I don't have any of those platforms

The booking was ok, and most of the staff handling me as far as the optometrist were polite and normal, and what Id expect, The optometrist was very helpful. The only flaw was the appointment system doesn’t tell you that you should have PRSI approval before your appointment and as I am recently wearing glasses this is something I didn’t know
When I got outside to the desk after the testing I was told by the booker that my PRSI was approved and I could go and select frames. This is where I am dissatisfied because another sales driven colleague took over and tried to convince me to get two pairs. I had to say twice or more that I only want one pair. Then I tried to indicate the frames I want and she wouldn’t let me until I am PRSI approved. Then I suggested that she speak to her colleague. She wouldn’t, and said I should only return when I have approval. I would have stayed and argued only I had to get back to work. Can it be that she had no interest in helping me because I only wanted one pair? She moved quickly to another customer who was only in to browse frames. Sickening sales pitching at the Santry store.
