Illegal marketing practices

My 13 year old son wanted to try this out and signed up for a 7 day trial. Unfortunately he didn't realise, being 13 this would auto renew at £99 per year for the annual subscription.

I found out when my card was charged. While to be fair to Ultimate Guitar this was probably mentioned, why am I giving them 1 star?

I downloaded the app to my device as he didn't believe he'd signed up for anything and there is no way to even get in without signing up for 7 day trial. It also does not offer any kind of idea of what the charge will be after the 7 day trial when sign up offering a huge banner that simply says No commitments and No charge during trial. I'm 99% certain this is against the law at least in EU and the UK so I'm taking a screenshot and forwarding it to relevant authorities and Apple. All potential fees must be advertised up front.

Nach Update unbrauchbar

Seit dem Update ist meine komplette Sammlung einfach weg und nicht einmal die Hälfte von dem was ich ursprünglich hatte ist noch zu finden. Ständig wird man aufgefordert in die Pro - Bezahlfunktion zu gehen.
Es ist einfach nur noch grausam. UG war einst die beste Plattform weit und breit für Chords & Lyrics. Ihr habt sie vollständig zerstört.
Das hier ist einfach nur Müll.

Treated in really bad faith - defo unsubscribe immediately after joining

This service has been getting dearer and more restrictive over the years.

Today I got a notification that they had renewed my subscription for AUD124.99. I immediately wrote to them and told them that I hadn’t been reminded of this subscription and never use it.

They’ve refused to refund it and wrote the following generic rubbish reply, refused to refund it and then forced me to take option C. If you subscribe, I recommend that you unsubscribe immediately so you can control your own subscription and can choose to resubscribe when it comes due. This is nasty and feels in poor faith. It’s a real “stuff you - bad luck, you’re stitched up”. Here’s the email they sent me when I asked for a cancellation and refund because I never use it and didn’t know I had it:

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out!

Email linked to your UG account: x

You have a 1-year subscription to Pro since 2025-04-22. The auto-renew for this subscription was not canceled before, so you were charged for another year as advertised. So this purchase was fully pre-authorized on your side while subscribing.

I've decided to discuss the case with my head office and asked them to cut off the price.

So here are our special options for you:

Option A: 12-months additional access + your current 1-year PRO access + PRO features in mobile apps included (by choosing this option you'll get in total 24 months of PRO without additional charges);



Option B: 25% refund + your current 1-year PRO access + UG Courses features for 6 months for free (this way you'll get back 25% of the paid funds, keep the 12-month subscription and you will have the UG Courses subscription for 6 months);

Option C: according to Terms of Service; refund the difference between 1-month and 1-year subscriptions; the PRO access will stay active for 1 month, it will be refunded 94AUD

Unexpected charges, be careful

No matter what you do, do not give out your card information. First, they save your card details and absolutely do not allow you to delete them.

I signed up to use the free trial and canceled my subscription at the end of the trial period. I also received a confirmation of the cancellation. After a while, I noticed that $99.99 had been charged to my card as an auto-renewal, and I immediately logged in and canceled this subscription. What I didn’t realize was that I also had a Songbook subscription. Even though I canceled that unused subscription right away, they refused to issue a refund. In response to my refund request, I received the following reply:

“You accepted the Terms of Service; otherwise, you couldn’t have been subscribed.”

Once you provide your card information, you may be charged for subscriptions you are not aware of, and you will definitely not be able to get that money back. I had to cancel my credit card in order to avoid future unexpected charges.

I've been caught by these t*ssers

I've been caught by these t*ssers.
My partner 'agreed' on a 14 day free trial and thought she'd extended it by accepting another 7 day free trial.....but alas, what she'd accidentally done was started two free trials which then became two full year subscriptions....so I'm now paying for two subscriptions for the same thing. Both of these are registered to me with my SAME email address. The sh*ts wouldn't refund one of them (I even agreed that I'd pay for one) because they passed the blame onto Apple (because she used an iPad) and said I'd have to take it up with them. Apple - waste of time and gave me a blank 'you cannot get a refund'....I then remembered that my paying source for the iPad was PayPal and so lodged a claim with them pointing out everything as above.....PayPal said that it refused my claim because I didn't cancel before the trials ended...told them that I didn't know anything about either one until I got the Apple invoice emails.
Moral of the story....they're all w*nkers!

JANKY SUBSCRIPTION PROMOS. This is the only ever subscription service I've dealt with that does not give a full refund if you canceled on the first day of your paid period. I didn't even use any subscription features during this period. It's also incredibly sketchy that they require a subscription in order to print any of the chord sheets. These chord sheets are uploaded by users for free so why does it require a payment to print it??

Many tabs, chords, lyrics, and community features remain available without a paid plan, and you can continue using them without subscribing. Official tabs are made by our UG Tabbers team. Subscriptions mainly unlock additional tools and advanced features, but the core purpose of the platform- finding and playing songs- does not require payment. That said, your feedback about how subscription prompts are presented is valid, and I will make sure it is shared with the relevant team so they can review how this experience feels from a user’s perspective.

Das Abo-Modell ist gemein, obwohl ich keine Abo wollte konnte ich nicht verhindern das das Abo mit PayPal bezahlt wurde, der Email-Support will meinen Rücktritt nicht annehmen und nur einen Teil erstatten obwohl ich unmittelbar in weniger als 1 Stunde um Erstattung und Rücktritt gebeten hatte. Geldverdienen als oberste Leitlinie.

Access denied for lifetime member

Been a member since 2013 - I have a lifetime membership but now cannot access it. I have over 500 tabs that I use regularly - not impressed.

Charged after canceling free trial – EU rights ignored

Pretty bad experience.

I signed up for a 7-day free trial and canceled it the same day just to make sure I wouldn’t get charged. Still, they charged me €99.99 for a full year for another product they say I was subscribed to. Their offer and their website are absolutely misleading in that regard.

I contacted support right away, but they refused to refund. Then I explained that, as an EU customer, I was within the 14-day withdrawal period. They completely ignored that and just kept repeating their own terms.

They offered me €75 back… but only if I closed my PayPal dispute first. That didn’t feel right at all.

On top of that, I was actually charged twice €99.99. One of those was later refunded without any explanation, but it gives you a clue about their bad practices.

Overall:

7-day trial -> 2 products €99.99 each
Canceled during trial → still charged
Refuse to refund money
EU rights ignored
Refund tied to closing dispute
Duplicate charge

Be careful. This didn’t feel transparent at all.

Business strategy - Exploit Free Trial

This company is taking advantage of Free Trial offers to trick you into continuing to pay for a service you never intentionally ordered in the first place. They said I only cancelled AUTO RENEWAL, not the service - $99.

Dispute the charge. And I would guess that Aydar, who keeps responding to reviews here, is not any more helpful than Anna, who, although very responsive, is all in on this shameful ploy.

Feel that I’ve been scammed

Feel that I’ve been scammed, signed up for ultimate guitar pro for £29.99 which is what I wanted, I have now had taken from my bank account£99.99 for courses and books. I did not sign up for this and now they are saying my free trial period is up and that I agreed. I did not agree and want a refund of the £99.99. I wasn’t informed that this would be taken from my bank account. I’ve been playing guitar since a teenager I am now 73 why on earth would I want courses.

Abonnement Musescore se met en route alors que non souhaité

La page de Musescore n' était pas claire pour moi et après un achat d'une partition, il y eu un abonnement qui s'est enclenché au bout de 7 jours.
Pour résilier l'abonnement qui n'était pas souhaité, je ne trouvais nulle part cette indication ou fonction. Après recherche sur le net, j'ai trouvé l'adresse e-mail et le nom de Monsieur Aydar qui a pu m'aider dans ma démarche avec succès immédiat, puisque j'ai été remboursé du montant de l'abonnement au bout de quelques jours.
Merci encore pour cette aide...donc les 4 étoiles sont destinées à M. Aydar
1 étoile de moins parce que c'était compliqué de trouver son contact
Le site Musescore ne mériterait qu'une étoile à mes yeux pour manque de transparence

Nach dem Probeabo werden direkt 200 €…

Nach dem Probeabo werden direkt 200 € für Songbuch und Kurse abgebucht. Im vorhinein wird es so aussehen gelassen als ob man monatlich zahlen muss wenn man auf Subskription drückt stürzt die Seite dauert ab. In meinen Augen definitiv betrug!!!
