Excellent Customer Service

The company is real quality. I contacted the company 2 days after my flight voucher expired (I was unable to use it earlier due to a bereavement and other circumstances). Without any questions, or any hassle, Jean Timon extended it for an unexpected 6 months to give me enough time to sort myself out so I don't feel rushed or stressed to rebook.

Excellent customer service from a first class company. I'm so glad my husband booked this voucher with the company directly, rather than a cheaper third party provider.
I always get great service from all the company's employees!

Excellent customer service

I wanted to extend my expiry date to accommodate a flight in June and Virgin was able to extend this without a fee due to us missing a number of previously booked flights due to cancellation. Ravi was most kind in waiving the extension fee because of this.

Total scam, do not buy anything from virgin, bought balloon flight for my boyfriend bday last April and every single flight was cancelled by the pilot due the weather even when was amazing day, after 7th cancelation I requested for full refund and I got £20 less as virgin explained they charge me for some kind of fees, I never signed any contract with them as payment was made by the phone and no one talk with me through all details, so I don't think if they had any rights to charge me for anything after all especially if I never could fly because of constant cancelation from their side, for me this is a big scam if you think of this if they charge every person £20for cancelation they making right money on it! the worst company never again and will be telling everyone to do not buy this

We’re genuinely sorry to hear how disappointed you’ve felt about your experience, especially as this was intended to be a special birthday gift. We completely understand how frustrating it must be to have multiple cancellations and then feel unhappy with the outcome.

Hot air ballooning is one of the most weather-dependent activities in the UK, and flights can only go ahead when conditions are safe across the entire flight path. Even when the weather appears good on the ground, factors such as wind speed, wind direction, or atmospheric conditions can mean it isn’t safe to fly. Safety is always our absolute priority, which is why pilots will only cancel when necessary.

The £20 difference you mention relates to a £10 per person administration fee, which applies to all monetary refunds and is outlined within the voucher terms and conditions. This is not a cancellation charge or penalty, but a standard processing fee.

Even when bookings are made over the phone, the same terms and conditions apply and are available online and on the voucher itself.

We’d also like to reassure you that pilots and operators do not benefit from cancelling flights. Cancellations are never taken lightly and affect both our teams and customers alike.

We truly regret that this experience has left you feeling let down.

All around a horrible experience from the moment I bought it

Booked a Virgin hot air balloon experience directly through Virgin, booked the flight 14 times over a 4 and a half year period in multiple locations and every single time the flight was called off for multiple reasons. Then I got fed up in the end, tried to get a refund deservingly so and Virgin told me I could only get store credit so they essentially keep my money regardless of how crappy service they provided. Furthermore, when I put a review on their website and another location they deleted my reviews within 3 days to lie to future customers about the ecperience. Horrible experience. £450 wasted. Never book through them.

Have had a voucher for over 2 years…

Have had a voucher for over 2 years now, every booking i made, got cancelled due to weather, then my health took a turn for the worse, which left me unable to ever do this experience, very disappointed. But all was not lost, thanks to Louise Davies, at customer service, who offered a monetary refund due to my condition, very very grateful indeed

Hot air ballooning is, unfortunately, extremely weather-dependent, and cancellations are only ever made when conditions aren’t safe to fly. We know repeated cancellations are disappointing, especially when you’ve been looking forward to the experience.

In your particular case, we can see that your vouchers unfortunately expired earlier this year in January. Once vouchers have been left to expire, we’re not able to offer a refund or an exchange for an alternative experience, which is why we weren’t able to fulfil your request. However, even if valid, your vouchers were non-refundable and non-exchangeable in any event. This is fully transparent on our website, from which you purchased our vouchers.

We offer multiple opportunities to rebook or extend vouchers ahead of expiry to help avoid situations like this. We’re really sorry that this hasn’t been the experience you were hoping for, and it’s never our intention to leave a customer feeling let down.

Beware of this experience, as you may never go and lose your fee.

This was something I'd been looking forward too, since having it as a 50th birthday present from my wife back in 2023. However after numerous cancellations due to weather conditions and rebooking, I should of eventually gone up June this year. On the morning of the flight, I contacted the number to check all was ok, only to be told they were using another take off site and not my chosen one. I had no way of getting to this other site on this particular day and there was absolutely no reason for them to change take off sites, they state it was due to weather conditions. No in fact, I since found that the flight was never arranged to take off from my preferred site and was always going to be from the back up site. So be aware, that even though they give options for your preferred site, it may never be arranged for there.
I did contact them direct to try to sort before the flight went, but they were not interested and kept saying the reason for the back up site was due to weather, this was NOT the case at all and as said, I did find, that it was NEVER planned to take off from where I had booked. I have also emailed and sent letters since, but they choose not to respond, as they have no interest once they've took your money.
Thanks for nothing and I hope your happy with the money you gained for doing absolutely nothing.

Edit: And as you see from the below response, they have no interest in sorting anything out, just the same info about safety. I know all about the safety aspect, as I had numerous cancellations over a 2 year period. But this particular flight was NEVER arranged to leave from my designated/preferred site. This is the bit that they won't admit too.

We’re really sorry about the frustration caused by the change of launch site on the morning of your flight. While we always aim to operate from the preferred launch site where possible, ballooning is highly dependent on the day’s weather conditions, including wind direction and airspace considerations. For safety reasons, our pilots may need to operate from an alternative or backup site at short notice, and we appreciate that this isn’t always convenient especially when travel arrangements are limited.

Thank you again for sharing your experience. We truly regret the disappointment caused and hope we can still help bring this to a more positive resolution for you.

Do not book with virgin...go direct with. Balloon company

Booked a hot air balloon flight on black Friday with photos £300. Tried to book flight for July and nothing available, anywhere. I immediately started reading reviews and decided that my best option would be to cancel. My email cancelling was sent by six hours after purchasing and on a weekend when closed. I received six emails on the Monday stating that I needed to make sure I had the correct flight package and that I had taken out a cancellation package!! I pointed out my consumer rights and a refund was made but without the photo package that I had paid for, even though I can guarantee no company was paid for my photos! Lynn in customer services was very good but all the other automated emails just stressed me out and I'd never ever ever book again or recommend virgin hot air balloon rides as you have to pay first only to find out you can't physically book any flights.

Through my own mistake

Through my own mistake an e-ticket would have been sent to an incorrect email. Within a few hours ‘Lynn’ in customer services confirmed my original booking details and I found i had given incorrect email address. She advised the action I could take and within 1 hour of my giving correct details the e-ticket information had been corrected and delivered safely to the correct address. The service received was excellent, very efficient and timely. Absolutely superb.
