Overcharging, cancelling orders without notification, and poor quality products.....
Wanted to get some hoodies made with Gelato. The colour I wanted (Orchid - its like a lilac colour) wasnt available (it will give you some weird error message about not being able to dispatch), even though when you select the colour, it says that it is in fact in stock for my region.
I reach out to their support team, they say the error is a known bug and the product is actually out of stock and to keep checking back.
I wait for a few weeks (checking intermittently) and still the colour isnt available (misleading error message persists). So I contact the team, who cannot advise when stock will be back, however they did very kindly extend the introductory discount code I was planning to use which was nice.
I eventually gave up waiting for Orchid colour to be in stock, so I decided to place an order hoodies in some other colours, as well ordering a custom phone case.
After paying, the order was automatically split into two parts. Assumingly because they are two different type of products that go to two different places to be fulfilled. No issue there.
It was only a few days later when I realised after checking my bank statement, they actually TOOK MORE MONEY than what I was shown I would be paying on the payment screen !!!!! Errrrrrrm WHAT ?
So I immediately go to contact their support team, who explain that there was an issue with applying the discount code and that it only applied to the first part of the split order (the phone case) and the rest of the order didnt get the discount. So, even though I was incredibly shocked that something like this happened, they were quite quick to resolve and refunded me the money back to my Gelato wallet.
The phone case finally arrives, it looks absolutely garbage. I follow up with them again and send them a photo, they then apologise and refund me the money back to my wallet.
3 out of the 4 hoodies I order then arrive some time later and the quality of the print was below expectations as well. It wasn't anything complicated (just a white logo) and there were no issues with DPI on my image during the design mockup stage. However, I decide not to raise another complaint because I can't be bothered to talk to them again at this point and I just hope that MAYBE the last hoodie will look better.
Weeks go by and I keep checking on the status. For a long time it just said "in production" and there was no change. I kept waiting and waiting and eventually I see next to the hoodie a section called "Event History" which I actually didn't notice until now. So I look into that, and see that my order is apparently cancelled??? So I follow up with Gelato on this, as I certainly didn't cancel myself and I have no clue what is going on.
Gelato team gets back to me and advises that the hoodie is "temporarily out of stock" and that they are "very sorry that we could not notify you earlier before placing the order." They then refund me for the canceled order.
So yeah, whilst its no problem speaking to a member of their customer support team, this experience was definitely negative for me and therefore I'm giving a 1 star review. I won't be a returning customer. Sorry Gelato team!
