Terrible company with terrible ethics
Terrible company with terrible ethics. Our application has been "processing" for 7 months now...they STILL charged us for monthly services for those 7 months and then refused to provide a refund. If this was on our company's credit card, we would dispute these charges. What type of a company is this?
Confiscated $8097 in customer payments for 90 days without warning
Avoid like the plague! Unless you don't like keeping your own money.
Authorize.net has been holding $8097 in customer payments for more than 56 days and refuses to release the funds to me for 90 days. All customers have had the funds withdrawn from their accounts and have signed written agreements to have the funds transferred via ACH. I have never had one customer cancel a check or credit card payment, and I have excellent credit. I’ve already paid for and shipped all the products to the customers, and they’re satisfied with the products.
Can't Get Our Credit Card Funds
We are a small business who engaged Authorize.net 2 months ago. To date we have been unable to get our credit card receipts deposited into our bank account. Numerous calls and people at their end have advised no knowledge about how to fix the problem. Meanwhile they continue to collect ...and keep...our revenue.
This is a shady company
This is a shady company. I don't usually bother with reviews if I'm just annoyed. But when I feel scammed, I want to make sure others know about it.
If you're surprised by Authorize.net charges, I think it means they haven't been clear about what the charges were going to be. And that's the worst type of company to be in such an important partnership with.
As others have mentioned, they will start taking fees from your bank account IMMEDIATELY after your application, even if you don't have a functioning merchant account approved yet.
Maybe a few weeks later a partner starts to follow up and ask for underwriting details on your application. By that time, you've probably already found another merchant account and wondering why authorize.net has been charging you.
Just a heads up. Hard pass unless you have no possible other options.
Scammers!!
I was looking for a processing company and put through an application BUT they couldn't help me out as I'm Canadian and needed an SSN or ITIN in order to open an account. Little did I know they were charging me monthly for a service I never did get!! When I noticed the payments coming out of my account 10 months LATER I called the bank and had them cancel the charges and reverse the last few payments. After I did this I got a message from Authorize.net saying I OWED them money!! FOR WHAT?!! I just now got a letter from collections OMG saying I owe $100 OMG!! I call this Authorize.net and I give the lady the last 4 digits of my bank account the name of my company the address and e-mail....she said she can find it and needs me to login to their website, this is where I said NO I'm not logging into anything to do with this company!! DO NOT give them your bank info or anything else they are scammers. I'm not sure what to do about this being Canadian. Avoid the website and anything to do with this company!!
Horrible business!!
Horrible business!!! Avoid at all costs. They will set up an account quickly and you can start processing payment. However, the neglect to inform you that after you process the payments you account will be sent for review. Then and only then your funds will be released. THE BEST PART if they don’t like a business model they will immediately close your account without warning call it a business decision and withhold the funds for up to 120 days. Amazing they don’t like the business model of property management/ Landlord.
Unusable for Subscriptions, Scheduled Payments, or Automatic Billing
6/27/25: The new user interface for Authorize.NET is out. If your business is considering managing subscriptions or any sort of scheduled or automated billing, Authorize.NET can't be your supplemental credit card processing software. In the new interface, you cannot create a subscription from a credit card on file. You have to get the credit card anew each time. If a client wants to change their billing date, you have to cancel the subscription and make a new one. You cannot search receipts by subscription; you have to run a general search and pick out which receipt was for what manually, sometimes having to open each receipt. In Authorize.NET, customer accounts are completely separate from subscriptions. You can pull up a customer account, but won't see subscriptions. You can pull up subscriptions, but not see the customer account. However, if you create a subscription, the platform automatically creates a new customer account - a duplicate one, and you can't delete the duplicate customer account as long as the subscription is valid. I could go on. The new Authorize.net has gone from bad to unusable.
9/30/202: As software for processing credit cards, Authorize.net is a has-been. There is better complimentary software out there. Automatic billing is completely separate from customer profiles, so looking up billing contracts for a particular client is not a good process. If you want to see what the next bill date is in an automatic billing contract, you have to look up the last bill and then calculate in your head when the next one is by looking at the frequency field. If you want to set up automatic billing before you run your first charge manually, Authorize.net forces you to create a duplicate customer account! Every process in there has weirdness like that. Stuff that may have been tolerable 20 years ago, but for such an expensive software, it's a has-been.
Authorize.net is not recommended. Many bad experiences.
Authorize.net is not recommended. Many bad experiences.
1. Authorize.net keeps changing formats causing you to have to ask your developer to keep updating. Otherwise your processor will not work properly.
2. Authorize.net has a poor system to detect fraud. I lost over $30k in fraud payments due to Authorize.net poor system. I had to ask my developer to program ways to detect fraud and not rely on Authorize.net.
3. Authorize.net requires and forces you to change passwords every 3 months. It is a big hassle especially if you have more than one person who needs to log in. Being forced to change your password every 3 months is a nuisance .
Worst Payment Gateway
Too bad I can't leave 0 or negative ratings. 1 star isn't even deserved.
Outdated fraud detection. We received a few charge-backs (due to the outdated fraud detection) and the notices were sent to us via standard mail. We received them less than 24 hours before a response was due.
Fast forward a few weeks and they closed our merchant account. OK fine. We've been meaning to move away from Authorize.net anyways. HOWEVER, we received an order at 8am and confirmation from Authorize.net stating the payment was approved. 9 hours later, at 5pm, we were informed our account has been closed. 2 hours after that we received an e-mail stating the settlement of the transaction at 8am failed. We fulfill orders the same day they are received. Essentially, we shipped the products out but didn't receive payment due to unacceptable and negligent errors on Authorize.net's end.
We own a portfolio of online businesses and have worked with many payment gateways both currently and in the past. This was our first and absolutely our last experience with authorize.net. Avoid doing business with this company.
very very poor if i say no customer…
very very poor if i say no customer service
i have 2 transcation which i want to report and there is no way to do, so i had to call bank and ask for chargeback.
you better go fish instead of prentending to be professional.
The worst card organization next to 2checkout
I mean, they are one of the worst card organization next to 2checkout. Whoever writes these policies is on drugs. They favor cryptocurrencies more than real funds. Ugly organization out there!
Trouble only - Criminal activities
We had to change our companies credit card because of authorize.net. We implemented a payment gateway solution from them for testing. After discusssing this with authorize.net they reassured as many times that for testing there are no costs. Without our notice they just turned on the service to live mode after a few days, which we never asked. We also never signed any documents for this and were only registering for the test. When we tried to cancel this they started to message back and forth always waiting a couple days before replying. In the end they charged us several hundred USD for services we never subscribed nor registered for. To come to a solution we had to call costly call centers in the UK.
They also knew that this was all only on a test project and not a single transaction was made. However, in the end they basically just "stole" money. This is one of the most criminal companies I came around in the last 20 years. Highly recommend any business owners to stay away as basically everything you do will turn into trouble. When I asked other startups they all experienced the same rip-off methods and get lured in with simply test something while within 24-48hrs they already turn everything live without notice.
SCAMMY AND SNEAKY
I was notified of the approval of an account with Authorize.net. The account would not be active unless I switch the Authorize.Net account to live mode. Which I have never done. It says it's in test mode. Not only that but my merchant account approval is still pending, so I can't really use the account anyways. So I have been sneakily charged for two months on a service I have never activated, that I can't even use, even if I wanted to. When I called to complain, they closed the account and only reimbursed me partially. What a scam. How is this even legal?
HORRIBLE "POLICIES" & SERVICE
They don't cancel your account and continue to charge you $25 per month forever. I have called, chatted, and emailed with them 3 times now, this is my third time they told me it's canceled. I don't trust them at all. I wouldn't be surprised if I saw another $25 charge next month. STAY AWAY FROM AUTHORIZE.NET!
It is simply impossible to contact…
It is simply impossible to contact support. Very unattentive.
I was asked to use the site from…
I was asked to use the site from someone who claimed being a lawyer and wanting to buy my site using crypto-currency, everything seemed suspicious, so I just checked your comments, thank you for your help.
This was the email I received:
Ok. To proceed further you need to send us the law compliance certificate for Saudi Arabia.
Only you as the owner can order the certification.
It's a common way of doing domain business in Japan and Korea. This is a well known domain certification service in Japan and Korea. They are owned by a large payment processor and provide certificates in English and Japanese/Korean languages. It's important for our clients and their banks.
My client borrows part of the funds in his bank to buy the domain and the bank requires an independent valuation certificate of the domain name (appraisal). The certification agency must also provide a copy in his native language upon request to be accepted by my client and his bank.
I talked to the buyer and he confirmed his intentions so there is no risk for you. You can be sure he will buy after you order the certification. I worked with him before. He is a reliable buyer. The buyer guarantees to pay you the price I mentioned earlier.
Please submit your domain for certification at "authorizedotnet"
They provide a copy of the certificate in Japanese/Korean. This is the authorized certification agency. They also provide full money back guarantee. It guarantees us a smooth transaction and no risk of loosing money for you.
There is no risk for you to pay the fee. If you don't sell they will give the full refund. It's the only risk free way for you and my buyer to proceed.
There are only two scenarios for you:
1. You order the certificate. It's accepted by the buyer's bank and you get your money.
2. You order the certificate. In case the certificate is not accepted by the bank or the sale fails by another reason, you can easily get a refund. The recommended agency provides full refund if you don't sell your domain within 2 weeks. Based on my experience there is no chance for this scenario. If you order the certificate at a proper agency it will be accepted by the escrow service.
I just got off the PHONE after they…
I just got off the PHONE after they were duplicatin g charges on recurring transactions. Now I they say my clients money can not be refunded, this is absolutely fraud. DO NOT EVER CONSIDER THEM FOR PROCESSING ...UNethical. WARNING AUTHORIZE.NET IS A SCAM
This company is unethical and best. Criminal is a better description.
I wish there were zero stars. Not only does Authorize.net have terrible customer service and bad business practices they are basically criminals. In essence here is what they did to me. 1) I applied for a merchant account and they approved it. 2) I process two customers charges through my new account 3) They notify me that my account is on 100% funding hold and ask for more information 4) I supply the information 5) Risk department now declines the account 6) I try and process a refund to get my customer their money back so I can use my existing merchant account to process their payments 7) Authorize.net refuses the refund - they say they can hold the funds for 120 days.
So guess what. I don't have my money. My customer doesn't have their money. Authorize.net has the money ($5000) and they aren't giving it back until they feel like it. They are telling me 4 months. It is obviously unethical and it should be illegal. I strongly urge any merchant to avoid this company like the plague. They are crooks.
There is absolutely ZERO risk in them refunding this money to my clients. NONE whatsoever.
Honestly the worst customer service…
Honestly the worst customer service ever, they keep telling merchant one that they don't have the funds and so on and so forth but honestly this is ridiculous. I'm changing companies. Don't trust them because they won't take blame for any of THEIR MISTAKES just STAY AWAY FROM THEM!
Authorize.net is owned by Visa …
Authorize.net is owned by Visa Corporation. Authorize.net, Cybersource
is a huge scam company processing credit card purchases. Everyone know who visa is in this country. We filled out a "Application" to do business with Authorize.net. Instead of getting a email or phone call or letter, they had our address, they take money out of our bank account for nothing. No account, no account number, That was over 3 weeks ago.
Now we are going to take these idiots to court for fraud! When you call them on the phone you get uneducated young people who double talk.
I checked the ripoffreport.com and discovered authorize.net has rippped off numerous customers. One case, authorize.net opened two accounts never telling the victim that there were two accounts and double charging them for over 8 years. I am in the process of having federal authorities investigate this for fraud and racketeering charges.
