I would like to update my review regarding the hedgehog house I purchased
I have contacted pretend Back Road Goods and they have offered me 50 percent refund and I can keep the house, one I paid £90 for when I can get it elsewhere for £10. Back Road Goods is a fraudulent company, one that ruins the lives of decent creative artisans all over the world who are trying to make an honest living from their craft. Then they come along, highjack their livelihoods copy their designs and reproduce a total inferior product one that is not fit for purpose The they lie about it and sell it to innocents like me who are trying to support both the artists and nature. It's shocking
When will this sort of behaviour be punished?
A previous reviewer of Backroad Goods states that they are also disguised as The Cedar and Tin Company with a different granddaughter's name. Craft Folk is another

I've been chasing delivery of the hedgehog house for my Dad's 85th birthday today! I got a fake Royal Mail tracking number and then check this company on Google to find all of these reviews & comments. SO SAD. I consider myself quite savvy but like others on here was highly encouraged by craftsmanship of artisans and wanted to support them. How taken in we've been. Scam Spoilt birthday gift. However, I have been in touch with my bank who have said if goods arrive not as advertised,described or pictured they can pursue a refund in another way. So hopefully my £95 isn't lost!!! Fingers crossed your banks can do something too.

bought Keith's Hand-Built Hollow Keeper Bee Hotel. This was supposed to be handmade red cedar. I got rough factory pine. This doesnt come close to what was advertised. Even the thickness of the wood it 5mm thinner.This was definitely not handcrafted.
i was advised I had to pay for international freight but the guarantee of quality actually states free shipping returns in Australia if returned in 30 days.

Very disappointed with my purchase. I ordered two bat boxes after being attracted by the claim that they were locally made in Gloucestershire by a retired craftsperson. The first box received was of poor quality, with workmanship and materials that did not match my expectations from the description provided online. The second box finally arrived a few days later and was equally as poor in terms of quality. The company advertises a 30 day money back guarantee, so I am currently giving them the opportunity to resolve the matter. I will update this review once it has been concluded. I always prefer to judge a business by how it responds when concerns are raised, so I hope a satisfactory resolution can can be achieved. Over to you Backyard Goods !

This is a scam site. I bought a hedgehog house. It hasn't arrived yet but now realise this is a scam. They weave a wonderful story so you believe you are buying something made by a craftsman but it's just cheap tat which you could buy for a fraction of the price from your local garden centre. Think it's called drop shipping.

As per other reviews ive been totally scammed. Its just so tragic that this company appeals to decent people who genuinely want to support local craft folk/ artisans and who care about supporting wildlife. Mine was a terrible cheap hedgehog house, I see now available on Amazon for £9. They charged me £90 with a long story about how carefully this had been hand crafted to thoughtfully protect hedgehogs and was built to last a life time . This is surely criminal behaviour. Assuming i will get no response to requests for a refund. It just makes me so depressed with the state of the world!! How do you people sleep at night?!

I am so disappointed and now kick myself for following a link instead of researching the company first. I read the Devon based story of Reg's hedgehog house and decided to buy 2 houses. We love hedgehogs and want to help support them. The houses are apparently due to be delivered by Royal Mail. Plastic, no doubt.
However, another google feed found me reading a verbatim article, but about Ted who's based in Clun, Shropshire. He's also 74 and selling off his last stock of hedgehog houses. I noticed that Backroads is now the Cedar and Tin Company with a different granddaughter's name.
I'm cross at myself for not being more sceptical and disgusted that this is a scam. Shame on those London based individuals who are responsible and who prey on caring members of society to obtain money for their perks. I am a pensioner.

I wouldn’t give them any stars if I could as I too have been caught out. (Stupid me for not checking reviews first). Their dispatch dates were all over the place and I didn’t get a straight answer when I queried this. Their replies were all empty promises. Reading the replies I can see that whoever/whatever is writing them is probably AI given the phrasing and wording. Now I’ve seen all the reviews and don’t expect them to refund my money.

I ordered Bron's hand made rain drum. I received a cheap, made in China item, that cannot be left outside, let alone in the rain.

Thes people should be prosecuted for false advertising!

I, like many others, was deceived by a lovely story about a man making bird houses from the remants of old tree logs in the Otway Ranges. I was very unhappy to receive my delivery of 2 plastic bird houses! I had also clicked on a link in my Google news feed that appeared legitimate. Feeling very disappointed and silly for not looking into it further before placing my order.

A complete scam of a company selling by fraudulent means. Avoid!

This is all true. I’m so disappointed I believed I was buying a handcrafted solid timber bird box for my garden. A small plastic awful box finally arrived. The original true company claim they are true artisans only selling through Etsy. I’d watched a video about the craftsman. … how can this happen. 60$ in nothing. …

Don't buy from them. They are dishonest and deliver an inferior product that is made so cheap and different from the story of the artisan woodworker that they led you to believe made it. Then when I emailed them to ask for a refund, I got absolutely no response. They need to be reported and shut down.

Unfortunately did not see until I purchased. This is a scam, they will take your money and after 3 weeks still no product and broken promises via there so called email contact (Jennifer.... Sic). Couldn't even give me a straight response when directly asked about the authenticity of the product and when it is being sent. Magically, then not 1 day later Australia Post has a label from the sender but still no actual product to ship yet (1 week).

Have identified from my own research that the purported artisan that supposedly makes their 'Bee Hotels' passed in 2024. The link to the media article is obliviously fake as indicating they are retiring and the last batch to be made.

Also they have recently changed their media story with another different purported artistian making the 'Bee Hotels'. I doubt that article as well.

I assume if anything does show up it will be from China and poorly made. The product was supposed to be from South Australia but the company is registered in London.

I have raised a dispute with bank but not going to hold my breath. DO NOT BUY FROM BACKROAD GOODS....

Update: A small (smaller by about a 1 cm in height, width and depth) wooden (potentially Pine not Cedar) Bee Hotel was received on the 7th Oct without the full copper roof (as originally listed). Certainly not worth $100, just seen similar on Temu for $40. Hopefully it's not fumigated timber.

The bore holes for the bee sections are not smooth. Overall extremely poor quality as held together by 2 bolts and wing nuts and misaligned. Nothing artisan about this product at all, do I even reach out for the so called 30 day free return.

Did send email questioning why no full copper roof and received you need to return to Hong Kong email response, but they can provide 25% refund if you want to keep and not return product.

Yes I have also been conned! I thought I was purchasing a handmade shell bag from 'Maureen' in Victoria. Not a mass produced piece of rubbish - the closer that I look at it. Not even the color I ordered and when I queried it for a refund. I am suppose to send it to Hong Kong for a partial refund at my expense.
Buyers please be aware it is ot a legitimate hand made bag.

as with other reviews i see, i ordered one item by an artisan and received a piece of junk made by some machine. Even though they state there is a 30 day return policy, suddenly it becomes that you only get 35% refund (and i doubt that!) and must mail your item back to Hong Kong at your expense. A HUGE scam…..

Ordered cat lamp that was supposed to be handmade in Massachusetts with stained glass and brass, received a cheap plastic figure that's worth about 2 dollars.to return to Hong Kong would cost me $258 dollars so I am stuck with it. Stay away from this company it is a complete rip off, it should be shut down.

I placed my order on Sept 22. By Sept 29, by checking status through the Shop app, I see that nothing had happened with my order, no confirmation email, no shipment confirmation, no tracking number. I sent an email to Backroads Goods requesting status on the 29th. I was told it was being processed. Checked later that day thru Shop and see that a label has been generated. Today, Oct 5th, I sent an email cancelling the order, and received a reply that it cannot be cancelled at this time,.but I am welcome to return the item but must pay for shipping. After reading the email, I checked the Shop app and see that the package is shipping. So they only act on the order when I contact them. Can't believe I was taken in by this scam. I will be contacting my credit card company tomorrow. Do not purchase from this company.

I, like so many others, have been deceived by a plausible story. I also fell for the handmade artisan tale which was made more convincing by a local connection. However, upon doing some basic research I found this well known and long established blacksmith had absolutely no online or physical presence. I have contacted my bank but refunds are not guaranteed.
Usually I take care but I was misled and regret it very much. As with others I'm disappointed to have been deceived by a feed from Google.
