A Complete Breakdown of Trust
If I could give zero stars, I would. This was not just poor service – it was a complete failure of responsibility that left us emotionally and physically drained.
We had booked a round trip from Ancona to Corfu, returning from Corfu to Venice (Booking number: 91484840). We were traveling with two small children – 8 months and 20 months old – and needed everything to run smoothly. But from the very beginning, everything went wrong.
The outbound trip was cancelled on the very same day, without warning, leaving us completely stranded. No message, no email, no call – just nothing. Try explaining that to two tired babies.
As if that weren’t enough, the return trip was also quietly changed, now departing from the Greek mainland, while we were still on Corfu. Yes, there is a ferry to the mainland – but it leaves so early, it’s physically impossible to catch the connecting ferry in time. The so-called “solution” made no sense at all.
We were forced to call the hotline – again and again – and finally made a new booking for the following day (Booking number: 94881361). But since then? No confirmation. No follow-up. No ticket.
And now the worst part:
We’ve spent hours in hotline queues, begging for answers. Each time we’re told, “You’ll get a call back soon.” They never call. Not once. And so I’ve had to constantly keep my phone on me, at full volume, while trying to care for two babies on vacation – a time when I was supposed to finally relax.
This situation has created days of stress, anxiety, and total uncertainty. We still don’t know how or if we’re getting home. And there has been zero accountability.
Avoid this company at all costs. If you are traveling with children, or simply want a functioning travel experience, this is not the provider for you. They have failed us completely – and it’s families like ours that suffer the consequences.
ORGANISED CHAOS - AMATUERS !
Just travelled (24/6/25) on Blue Star Diagoras ferry from Lemnos to Kavala. All went well until it came time to disembark. They had all 200+ passengers lined up in the stairwells for 30 mins AFTER they docked in 38-degree heat. Many people were panicking and were about to faint as there was no air. They kept us there until they unloaded the cars and bikes. Morons ! Wouldn't it make more sense to let the passengers off first? Particularly as we had another boat to catch to Thassos (which we made with just 7 mins to spare).
Typical Greek organised chaos. Very amateurish!

Keine Kontrolle auf dem Schiff
Positiv:
Das Schiff war sauber und pünktlich – das ist erfreulich und zeigt, dass zumindest die grundlegende Logistik gut funktioniert.
Negativ:
Leider war die Online-Reservierung kompliziert und nicht benutzerfreundlich. Ich hatte Sitzplätze gebucht, diese waren jedoch nicht nebeneinander – ein Problem, das offenbar auch andere Reisende betraf. Dadurch entstand bereits beim Einsteigen ein gewisses Chaos.
Hinzu kam, dass Fahrgäste ohne Sitzplatzreservierung sich auf beliebige Plätze setzten, was zu weiteren Unstimmigkeiten und Stress führte. Das Personal war nach der Abfahrt kaum sichtbar und schien keine aktive Rolle bei der Sitzplatzorganisation zu übernehmen. In den Salons lagen Fahrgäste auf den Bänken, um zu schlafen, was zu Platzmangel führte und das allgemeine Reiseerlebnis beeinträchtigte.
Fazit:
Die Organisation an Bord, besonders rund um die Sitzplatzvergabe, sollte dringend verbessert werden – durch professionellere Reservierungssysteme, klarere Kommunikation und eine aktivere Rolle des Personals. So ließe sich der Service insgesamt deutlich steigern.
Positive:
The ship was clean and departed on time, which is definitely appreciated and shows that basic operations are running well.
Negative:
Unfortunately, the online reservation system is poorly designed and unnecessarily complicated. I had reserved seats, but they were not assigned together – a problem that affected several other travelers as well, leading to confusion and disorganization from the start.
To make matters worse, passengers without seat reservations were wandering around looking for available spots and simply sitting wherever they wanted. There was no staff presence to manage the situation, and it seemed as if the crew went on a break right after departure. 😂
In the lounges, people were lying across benches to sleep, resulting in a lack of available seating and tension among passengers.
Conclusion:
The onboard organization – especially regarding seat assignments – urgently needs improvement. More professional reservation systems, clearer communication, and a more visible and active crew presence would significantly enhance the travel experience.
Sexual harrassment on the ship by male staff member
On the morning of 10 May just as the ferry was about to arrive in Igoumenitsa, there was a knock on the door. One second later, the door opened. I was naked in the room and did not have time to respond to someone knocking on the door.
One of their male staff members opened the door and said 'Igoumenitsa.' I said 'Yes.' He continued to stare at my naked body and would not close the door or leave. He said 'Igoumenitsa' two or three more times. I kept saying 'Yes, I know.' He still would not leave. Eventually, I shouted at him, 'Fxck off!' and he finally closed the door and left.
This is a complete breach of privacy and unacceptable behaviour.
There was absolutely no time for me to respond to someone knocking on the door. And there was absolutely no need to open the door tell customers of the name of the port they were arriving at. There was further no need to keep telling customers the name of the port they were arriving at after the customer acknowledged they knew they were arriving soon.
I suspect my incident was not an isolated incident and that this particular person abuses his authority and his access to every single cabin on the ferry just so he could catch women in a state of undress.
I reported the incident to your customer service representative on board. She kept asking me whether he was staring at me or not.
Perhaps in Greek culture, it is considered completely normal for women to be naked in front of men and that women should not be alarmed as long as the man is not 'staring' at her. I suppose men 'looking at' naked women is part of the Greek culture or perhaps the culture of Blue Star Ferries.
Given that you serve international customers who might be from a more traditional cultural background where this is not acceptable, you should investigate this incident. If you conclude that this was an independent incident and is not representative of the service Blue Star Ferries provide, you should fire this male staff member.
Bad news
As usually, babies starting over crying at crowded areas, none of parameters were compile, parents don't respect the others, must be some solution for this.
Unreliable and expensive Greek ferry company
What an incompetent company! it is mid April and they still have not released their summer schedule of ferries! Meanwhile I've booked months ago accommodation on Greek islands and 2 weeks prior I do not know whether I can actually go to the island! For the Greek island I am going they are the only ferry company, and because they have no competitor they do not care at all for travellers. They are too expensive for what they offer and on top of that highly lazy and unprofessional.
Big Fat NO!
Noisy (dogs barking), crowded, smelly (smokers) and slow (late to depart and extra stop en-route). Don't bother.
Kabine nicht empfehlenswert!
Fahrt Athen- Lesbos mit der Fähre "Mykonos". Wir haben eine teure(!) Kabine gebucht um wenigstens ein bisschen schlafen zu können. Nichts da. Die Lautsprecher draußen im Korridor sind so extrem laut, dass man jedes Mal erschrocken aufwacht, wenn die Fähre an einem neuen Hafen ankommt. Bei JEDEM Halt wird 3x die gleiche Ansage mit Musik abgespielt. Sowas penetrantes habe ich noch nie erlebt und ich bin schon mit vielen Fährgesellschaften gereist! Zudem gelangen immer wieder Abgase durch die Lüftung in die Kabine.
Die Infrastruktur an Bord ist ebenfalls sehr dürftig. Es liegt überall Müll herum und man muss Glück haben, dass man an der Bar oder Restaurant überhaupt bedient wird. Sehr schlechter Kaffee im Angebot. Das Personal ist zwar nett, sieht aber überhaupt nicht motiviert aus - vermutlich ist Blue Star Ferries ein schlechter Arbeitgeber.
Wir verzichten in Zukunft auf Blue Star Ferries.

I am travelling multiple times a year because I go to college in Samos. 9 out of 10 times we have delays and never arrive on the time time we are supposed to

Vi købte den såkaldte "LUX kabine" der ligner noget fra 80'erne og har 2 seperate senge. Ikke meget luxus over det, bortset fra at der er god plads. Til gengæld var prisen HØJ (300 eur for overfart og værelse). Færgen stopper 3 steder i løbet af natten, forvent en time med larm hvert sted. Vi fik ikke sovet meget. Personalet virker stresset og jeg følte mig mest til besvær. Vi spiste på den "fine" restaurant og bestilte roasted lamb som mest af alt var pulled lamb som kom i en stor brun klat af kød - ikke særligt appetitligt (vælg noget andet). Det hele skulle gå rigtigt stærkt og der blev kigget underligt til os da vi gerne ville starte med en gin & tonic. Der ligger mennesker og sover overalt på cafeer og restauranter. Færgen bærer tydeligt præg af at være gammel og slidt. Det var hverken hyggeligt eller behageligt. Vi kom dog til Rhodos og blev enige om at - om ikke andet - så var det da en oplevelse... som vi ikke behøver at gentage.
BLUE STAR CHIOS
First of all, it actually has a very good potential but chaos occurs because the employees never listen to you.
We bought business class tickets from the Blue Star company Chios ferry departing from Rhodes to go to Santorini with my family, in order to travel comfortably but apart from the first few hours, we were not comfortable neither on the way in nor on the way back (ESPECIALLY ON THE RETURN). Passengers who bought economy class tickets and knew the lack of control of the employees sat in business class seats and those whose seats were occupied sat in other places, and as a result, since they sat in other people's seats, PEOPLE WHO BUY TICKETS FROM BUSINESS CLASS HAD NO PLACE TO SIT.
Not only did they steal the seats, but most of the people from economy class came after a while and slept on the seats in the cafe section. We warned the employees a thousand times to check the tickets frequently but they did nothing but ignore us. Then what is the point of selling business tickets!!!!?????
Also, there is no cleaning, we saw with our own eyes that they wipe the tables on all the floors with the same cloth at every stop. The toilets are disgusting because of the people using them. I would never recommend them and I will never use them again.

era una barca terribile, vecchia e sporca e avevamo prenotato una cabina, che era sporca, si diverte, bah bah. la cacca era sui muri. abbiamo dovuto pagare 200 euro, davvero terribile. È incredibile che a questa barca sia ancora consentito navigare.
Avoid if you can
We bought business class - wasn’t that a mistake!! We were shocked when we walked in, is this what they call business class? You are better off buying AIR SEATS, trust me! We spoke to a lady who had bought air seats and she knew to do that because she was also so appalled at how bad business class was on her previous trip. Business offers you a separate room from everyone else, but no assigned seats unlike air seats where you have an allocated seat. The seats in business are not as comfortable as you would expect! Also the service is not up to scratch, they don’t know what they’re doing and it’s not clear how you can order. To be fair though, we were glad to not have bought standard fare, it’s everyone for themselves out there and good luck if you’re last to board

AVOID bluestarferries in Greece like the plague!!! My first negative experience in this country. Everything else was amazing. I recommend using seajetsgr instead! Same Price, Shorter ride, waaaqy more comfort!
1. It was almost 1h delayed - NO information at all. Almost missing our flight!
2. They let the back of the queue board first - rather than those coming three hours early to get a good seat
3. Economy seats only outside in the heat - no airco. Despite empty seats in the inside - everyone is sent out that does not have a corresponding ticket
4. It’s having insane heavy diesel particle rich smog coming out the motors while stating sustainable on the side of the boat
4. Completely disorganized
5. Stressed and unfriendly personnel
6. Dirty and stinky toilets
7. Barking dogs everywhere and screaming kids

Η επιτροπή ανταγωνισμού επιτρέπει τη δημιουργία μονοπωλειου (βλέπε εξαγορά Highspeed ANEK κτλ) και οι ελεγκτικοί μηχανισμοί επιτρέπουν την αυθαιρεσία της εταιρείας. Ντροπή. Μακάρι να υπάρξει επενδυτής που θα μπει στις κυκλαδες με αντίστοιχα μεγάλα καράβια ώστε μα δώσουμε ως καταναλωτές ένα πλήγμα σε αυτή την ανήθικη πρακτική
