I fully appreciate BUPA has a good track record for enabling medical assistance but their first line CS team, without exception are hopeless. There is no explanation of SLA's, CS operators are giving our wrong information as a constant because they do no have an understanding of their product.
Unreliable and untrustworthy.
In respect of dental claims, the Bupa website clearly states:
"You need to pay for your treatment if you get it done at any other dental practice - for example, an NHS dentist. You can then make a claim with your receipt and get your money back through My Bupa."
- No mention of requiring a separate Bupa dental plan.
- No mention of having to use a Bupa participating dentist.
- No mention of either on the annual Bupa invitation to cover dental work up to £300.
Claim denied as I don't have a separate dental plan/didn't use a Bupa dentist.
Total lack of clarity and contradictions that lead you wrongly to believe you have some cover in place for when you need to rely on it.
Don't put yourself or family at risk, find a better provider.

Absolutely terrible!! My son had a nightmare yesterday trying to get a quote to continue his work policy after he leaves his job. Today I called them asking if the could email the missing info to confirm the policy would be a continuation. I had any info they needed, his Buoa no, the quote reference and of course email , dob, address everything , and I wasn’t asking them to give me any info, yet they refused to do it unless my son who is seriously struggling to cope called yet again himself!! Totally ridiculous, yet when I accidentally spoke to BUPA global, they were perfectly willing to sort this, just could as the policy wasn’t heals with them!
Just expect to get over treatment ie things you don’t need done when you visit their dental centres. As someone in the industry I would never get dental insurance and attend a clinic like them. They will flat out lie to you that you have a serious disease you don’t just to get thousands out of you.
Bupa Health Cash Plan take a fortnight to tell you that they have insufficient evidence, but they purposely don't tell you what it is they need and make you resubmit, to then take a fortnight to tell you they have insufficient evidence, but then purposely don't tell you what it is........(This carries on to avoid paying)
Do not use BUPA and if you have any option use anyone else.
They refused to authorise treatment regarding a foot injury I sustained during sport a week ago. I have wasted hours on the phone to these people requiring a doctor to sign a physical form (at my expense - time or otherwise) so will end up going to NhS.
Do not bother with these absolute frauds who will take your money but make treatment extremely difficult to receive.
booked an appointment to get a letter to DVLA medical group to say i am fit to drive. Took my money but did not turn up to video appointment. And was no option for face to face appointment and i still cannot drive and am a hermit and recluse fr so far 10 months
The customer service I received was very poor indeed. BUPA Healthcare is currently part of my salary package, but it is due to end in July. I contacted BUPA and spoke with Aaron, who informed me he was unable to give me a renewable quote because of the number of days still on my current contract. He took my number and confirmed he would call me on Wednesday 18 June and give me a quote. He planned to call me between 9 and 10am. As you might imagine, I received no call.
I contacted BUPA and spoke with Effie, who apologised and informed me she couldn't give me a quote until the following Monday, and took my number and agreed to contact me at 9.30am. She even sent me an email to confirm the 9.30am telephone call. So I waited by my phone on Monday 23 June at 9.30am and you've guessed it, no such call was made.
I, once again, contacted Customer Services to be told that Effie does not start her shift until 10am. The whole thing was poor and discourteous. I've decided to go with another health care provider.
The company tries in all kind of ways to get away from their obligations to cover medical expenses even after it has been pre-approved. I do not find them as not a serious healthcare supplier to be trusted. Other alternatives should be considered.
1/5 stars - Avoid
"Terrible experience with this insurance company. Unresponsive, uncaring, and completely uninterested in helping customers. Phone calls go unanswered, online forms are a waste of time, and complaints fall on deaf ears. They'll happily take your money, but don't expect them to lift a finger to help you when you need it. 2 months+ waiting for a GP call that never comes? No thanks. Don't waste your time or money on this company."
I have attempted to make three claims so far on my Bupa policy. EACH time I must fill in a Moratorium Pre-Authorisation Form to fill in which must also include evidence from my NHS GP that my claim is not for a pre existing condition. If It could get in to see an NHS GP, I would have no need for private medical insurance. All three of my claims have been turned down. In addition, every Bupa representative that I spoke to all gave different reasons for turning down the claims. There was absolutely no logical consensus in there reasoning. It seems they’re just instructed to stonewall and block claims. I’m disgusted and would give them zero stars if possible. AVOID Bupa at all cost!!
After 6 years with BUPA I feel badly let down. I have hip pain and was given authorisation to see a consultant. He sent me for an MRI. I saw him again to hear his diagnosis. He said an ultrasound guided steroid injection would cure the issue. To my surprise and disappointment BUPA said this was excluded so I paid £460 for it. BUPA has since said that on page 16 of the small print it says that “temporary relief of symptoms” is excluded. This is disingenuous of BUPA and unacceptable. I have cancelled mp policy forthwith.
recent experiences with Bupa are that, at least administrative it is not what it used to be., Had to lodge complaints now three times - over having been given the wrong information on which consultants I may use and whether they pre-authorise or not. Endless phone calls with long waiting times ...
due to high cover cost I decided to move to another health provider,
I contacted Bupa via email and WhatsApp in order to cancel my cover but both advised me that I have to call Bupa directly for this,
for two days trying to contact Bupa over phone but as soon as selecting the number for cancellation they put you on hold for hours, eventually able to get in touch by pressing the number for new member registration in order to cancel my order which I did!
I would Iike to give BUPA less than 1 star for the poor service and advise I have been given. This is now the second time that I have been provided a unsatisfactory service. My complaint was not dealt with fully and the correct calls for not listened to. As a result there has been a delay in me receiving the necessary treatment I require.
Have called a few times to the Bupa and helpline and so far have received very helpful and informative support from colleagues thank you so much Emelia and Junior for great customer service .
If I could give zero stars, I would.
Bupa has been charging me TWICE every month — not once, but two times — and apparently sees no issue with it. When I tried to get my money back, they promised a refund, but instead of a proper electronic refund (like literally every other business in the world), they insisted on sending a paper check. Welcome to the 1980s.
It’s been over 3 weeks, and surprise: the check never arrived. This has happened more than once, and every time I reach out, I’m met with radio silence. No follow-up. No escalation. No refund. No one seems to give a single damn.
The support is useless, the process is broken, and the attitude is basically: “We’ve got your money, now go away.” Honestly, it feels like I’ve been scammed by a company that pretends to be professional but can’t even handle basic billing or communication.
Do yourself a favor — stay far away from Bupa. Once they’ve got your money, they’ll disappear. And if something goes wrong? Good luck ever getting it back.
BUPA Dental. Unable to make an apt. easily on the phone. Subjected to a very patronising message on the answer phone. Received an email telling me to ‘complete one task’ I. e . filling in a medical questionnaire. As I am a regular customer all these details should already be on your system! The demand was phrased as ifvI am a child at school - it felt quite disrespectful. I hope your customer services will be improved. Irene Stanbury Dip.Cot.
Even one star would be too much for this disgusting company where you would face disrespectful and unprofessional staff fully ignoring your attempts to attract their reasonable attention.
Another miki mouse company in the UK.
Rubbish! Twice now I’ve tried to get an appointment to see a consultant for myself and a family member, I live in a big city but I’m still being sent 50 miles away! I don’t know why I waste my money.
