Cannot recommend or trust Capital One shopping
Twice now the Capital One shopping system either was broken or, I hate to think it was done on purpose, screwed us out of what should have been decent cash back promos. We won’t use Capital One shopping anymore or shop at JC Penny or Walmart. I have to assume there has to be collusion.
TOTAL SCAM
I have made multiple $$$ purchases over the last 3 months using email offers from Capital One shopping and have not received the 'bonus' that was offered. TOTAL SCAM - promising something and not following through!
I must have forgotten my first bad experience.
I must have forgotten my first bad experience with Capital One Shopping, because when I got an e-mail offering $20 off a $20 purchase at Swanson Vitamins, I tried to avail myself of it -- no go. Coincidentally (or not) I had just been shopping at Swanson the night before, but I use uBlock Origin and Do Not Track. I jumped through all the hoops: disabled ad-blockers, installed the Capital One add-on ("it's free"), shopped from the browser tab opened by activating the come-on's link, removed the promotion code I already had (which would have saved me more than $20 anyway) -- it still did not work; when I went to the checkout page, the Capitol One add-on informed me that I would get 1% back, not $20. The same e-mail offered $50 back on a $50 purchase at Life Extension -- same thing; at checkout, I was only offered a percent or two back on the purchase, not $50. Capital One Shopping apparently operates independently of its credit card and banking divisions, but I have to question the integrity of the latter two enterprises when Capital One Shopping is scamming so hard. Capital One has wasted at least an hour of my time with its fake offers, but I'll remember to steer well clear of Shopping from here on out!
I had $1,800 in rewards be drained into…
I had $1,800 in rewards be drained into Apple giftcards on my account. No way to contact by phone, email, or chat. Sent message through a question area and got email stating "issue resolved." Indeed it was not. Even tried to put giftcards into Apple site and they all said "invalid". Total scam..... Shame on Capital One. Getting rid of their credit card we use as well for them allowing this to happen to many people apparently.
Absolutely horrible Customer Service…
Absolutely horrible Customer Service when it comes to Capital One Shopping. You cannot speak to anyone on the phone. Three times by three different Associates I was given an email address that came back invalid. Absolutely horrible. Two times I totally refunded full purchases because I could not get anyone on the phone or email to straighten out an issue.
It's a good app when it works, but that's the problem
When Capital One Shopping works, it's great. I have saved quite a bit of money from it. However, it is a crap shoot every time you activate an offer, so I will never use it on large purchases. For instance, I activated an offer on Macy's. I checked the exclusions list. I checked the terms and conditions. I kept the item. I took screen shots of the order, the confirmation, the payment method, and the offer ID. I received an email from Capital One saying my rewards had been earned and the exact amount I would earn ($10.18). After 30 days, it was marked ineligible. I navigated to the help section to contact customer service via email. It is very hard to find and they are very hard to reach. I explained my situation. I did received a canned email back, informing me of the reasons an offer might be ineligible, all of which I addressed in my original message to them, including 3 screenshots, which they did not acknowledge or look at, because if they had actually read my email with the attached screenshots, the canned response would make no sense. So, even though I fulfilled everything on my end, including providing documentation, Capital One Shopping will not honor their offer. I do believe this constitutes fraudulent business practices, which is why I don't use Capital One Shopping unless I am willing to write off the money. One other issue with Capital One Shopping: When exchanging points for gift cards, you might not even receive the amount in U.S. currency. For instance, I redeemed my points for a $25 gift card from PetSmart. It arrived in Canadian currency. Why? PetSmart is a U.S. company, even though it does have stores in Canada. When a U.S. customer buys a gift card from a U.S.-based store, it's very confusing when it shows up in another currency. A quick glance at my gift card balance would lead me to believe I had $35 -- I need to look closer to see that it's CAD. This is so lazy on Capital One's part. They assume that if a card works during checkout, even with currency fluctuations, the customer won't mind. What a mess! It just adds to the scammy nature of it all. If there ever is a class-action suit, I would not be surprised and would probably even join it. I hope $10 in whatever currency they choose is worth it for them to keep getting reviews like this. Businesses should not be run like a game of craps using a mixture of currencies.
FALSE ADVERTISING AND WORSE
This is the epitome of false advertising. 1)They offer you $40 bonus credit for signing up and accepting the browser extension but they never pay it. When you complain they say they don't know what bonus you are talking about and ask you to send a screen shot of the offer which is impossible to do because once you have the extension it won't ever show you the offer again. Beside this issue, 2) the normal discounts take several months, if at all, to show up. Its impossible to track if you are getting what you were promised. 3} The extension puts highjacking software on your browser so if you use google it changes it to yahoo with a mystery URL that highjacks your start page. You have to keep clearing it.
Terrible
If I could give it a negative I would. I added the extension to my phone and anytime I go to a website, I NEVER get the offers. But after I place my order, I get several emails with offers of money back if I spend so much. And trying to contact them is even worst. It’s a horrible program that I am going to cancel.
Customer is so rude and will not answer my question
If you have an issue - they will respond but they beat around the bush and do not answer the question. It is as if they have ai doing the answering and AI does not know what you want. Also, I purchased Kate spade purse and there is not record of the rewards. I captured the pictures proving the sale but am waiting for the 60 days to past before I decide how to pursue this. No one is helpful in customer service - they are rude and will tell no further comment will be made. I am beginning to think this is a scam - behaps we need to write to our congressmen to see how we can pursue this. I am trying to figure out how to get this information out.
I have written before about the poor…
I have written before about the poor capital one shopping site. They do not deliver what they promised. I have a LandsvEnd gift certificate I bought and there are no numbers so I can’t use it. It is for. $50. I have written them over 15 times about this and never get a response. I have also asked them about how to access web bonuses to no avail. I am deleting their site as it is a scam. You can’t get any answers.
This started out as a pretty decent…
This started out as a pretty decent plug in. It was worth using for years. In the last 9 months the platform has shifted. It used to be get x% back up to a certain dollar amount. Now the only offers i get are like spend 300 get 75 back. The problem with those offers is you can only use it once for what ever category it falls into. They never tell you what the special falls into. The way it works is it passes an affiliate link so that they are earning kick backs from directing your purchase and finding ways to not pay out. If they push you out to kohls, kohls will cut them a percent then you get nothing
I'm very disappointed in this site.
I'm very disappointed in this site. I used Capital One Shopping over Rakuten several times when booking Viator excursions for my last trip. Now when I've completed the trip, I look at the website and most of those purchases were deemed Ineligible, for some unknown reason. I did use my Capital One credit card to make those purchases, and I did complete the excursions. For some reason, my total rewards actually decreased since I checked it before the trip! I'm going to cash out and get a gift card for what I have on there, then discontinue using this site. A complete scam!
CapitalOne Shopping customer service does not exist
My CapitalOne Shopping account was hacked and the person that accessed my account illegally redeemed my rewards for a gift card and used the gift card. I've submitted 4 help requests to report the fraud via the CapitalOne Shopping "help center" along with numerous emails and no one has responded. Fraudulent activity occurred on my account and there is no one to help me. Beware - if you need help with anything, you aren't going to get it. They do not care about you. This app sucks.
Trap!
I got the same fantastic offers they stalk my browser history several days in a roll. So my son who got very tight budget on college decided to purchase a couch from JC Penny for the $100 back on >$300 purchase incentive Capita One promised and even waited for a very slow delivery. Then the reward never followed though and changed from "pending" to "ineligible". When you contacted customer service, they provide something in general that you are still confused which one you didn't follow or meet requirement. And you even lost the basic % store reward, or other coupons, and all other options. Very disappointed!
If I could I would leave negative…
If I could I would leave negative rating. I had dollars accumulated, linked my credit card so I could get a gift card & then all my Capital One shopping rewards disappeared down to $1.75!!! This site offers no phone number and the email given to contact them gets returned as 'this email account is not being monitored'. Submitted a ticket via their website & got the run around. Never got resolved. DO NOT USE CAPITAL ONE SHOPPING REWARDS. IT IS A SCAM CONTRARY TO WHAT YOU WILL READ. BAIT & SWITCH
Capital one shopping is crap
Capital one shopping web extentinsion is collecting data and providing none of the promised "rewards". Stick with Retail-Me-Not, by far the better option.
The $45 "free dollars," is a scam and…
The $45 "free dollars," is a scam and only available thirty days out after your fifteen dollar purchase, none of this is of course mentioned or included when you're jumping through all of these hoops to get it back. Bait and Switch. Scam.
Don't get what they say you will
Received an email stating that my rewards on the way and next time I checked it was deemed ineligible. almost a bait and switch situtation.
I used Capital One Shopping on hotel…
I used Capital One Shopping on hotel bookings for Iceland. The extension kept putting a discount in front of me, about 50% if I'd book through hostels.com so I did . it kept reappearing so I booked six of them. I am not staying in any of them until June.
I paid more than I would have on Booking.com at my Genius level, because of that discount. (though I compared and they were cheaper than Capital One travel so avoid that too.)
Nothing on the confirmation says the reward stuck. It does not show up in any useful time. You cannot tell for days whether it is even going to try, and you only find out after the hotel stay is complete (June!)
When I went back to look, Walmart, Temu, and Target have failures going back years yet working every so often. The fact there is an interval is documented but the intervals are not given! I should not have assumed that the pop up meant I was eligible. Basically I let the extension talk me into going through Capital One Shopping instead of my preferred cards. Looking back, those rewards have been bouncing for several years.
Support is email only, and I only got the address by calling the regular Capital One number. I wrote. No answer. I'm canceling them anGoing back to only accepting the offer if I'm truly going to do it exactly that way anyway and don't mind possibly losing one percent which I because I get 2% to 5% on other credit cards... come to think of it I'm going to uninstall it from my browser.
Keep careful records - they short you a lot!
So generally, they are pretty good. Sometimes, though, they miss the rewards you are due, which can amount to serious missed cash that you were promised. I have submitted a missed rebate twice. It should have been a 14% reward, which is the only reason I shopped at this one site. Nothing. They don't acknowledge my report of their error. It's almost like you have to take a screenshot of the offer capitaloneshopping gives you ahead of time, a screenshot of the clicking to get to the site, a screenshot of the purchase, a screenshot of the receipt (and then maybe your credit card statement?). Too much hassle for a temperamental site that doesn't pay everything they promise.
