The customer service from Don Ruffles…

The customer service from Don Ruffles was exemplary.
I dealt mostly with Melanie, who was extremely helpful in answering my ignorant questions.
But equally impressive was the speed of delivery of the shredder, it came a couple of days after my order.
Sadly the machine failed, but the arrangement to collect it was even faster than the delivery time, it went the day following my report. And the remedy was equally fast.
I wish more online companies had such standards of service.

Quality, Delivery, PPE & Order Minimums

I recently ordered some PPE for a video project on a construction site, from The Online PPE Shop (Don Ruffles).

I was a little hesitant about the timings of delivery as the project was rapidly approaching and I ordered after their cutoff time.

The PPE all turned up within two days of my order, cannot fault the delivery service at all. I also love the fact that there is no order minimums, I am a one man band so to day and there was no issue ordering for me.

For the record I ordered a full set of Portwest hi-vis PPE and a helmet. The quality is second to none, my brother who is in the construction industry was impressed to say the least!

Great experience all round!

Highly Recommended

My experience ordering from "Shredding Machines" was great - items were well packaged, prompt delivery, etc. - no problems at all. They were so much cheaper than other suppliers too - highly recommended.

Excellent service

Excellent service, machine was very well packaged and on a pallet.
Delivered in a few days, shredding machine was plug and play.
Only constructive comment is very little communication on delivery.
But with cheapest price in the market, what can you expect.

Ordered a shredder and accessories…

Ordered a shredder and accessories after chatting with a salesman. We are happy with the shredder and accessories, however, the shredder was delivered on a pallet for kerbside delivery. This was problematic as the shredder was incredibly heavy and we had 3 large steps to navigate into the office. Fortunately we had a handyman on site to help us manhandle the shredder into the office. With hindsight I would have paid more and ordered from a different website who gave you a specific date for delivery to ground floor and took away all of the packaging and pallet. I would only order small items from this website in future.

So disappointing - Warning: The site said in stock, they took my money and then when you chase delivery you are told it is not in stock…

(see our response to their response below).So disappointing, I wish I had read their reviews before buying. Their site said in stock, they took my money and then when I chased it I was told it is not in stock and would be delayed and all they do is offer a refund after misleading you and cause you hassle and delays.
We DO NOT recommend this company, they are simply drop shippers who do not hold the stock and then blame their suppliers.
I thought this was a reputable brand but the way the staff handled the issue was appalling to the degree that the sales manager actually told me to “Go For It “ when I said I needed to warn others by giving them a bad review, unbelievable.
The practice of Misrepresenting a products availability is not merely misleading; it is a breach of UK consumer protection standards, Under the UK Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, it is deemed misleading to advertise an item as in stock when it is not, raising both legal and ethical concerns about the integrity of the business, especially given that the product is still listed as “in stock” for 2–3 day delivery on their website so other people can be disappointed and let down also.
These businesses do not appreciate the effect that this practice has on other business and consumers, for them their easy get out is “well you can have your money back”, but by when you find out it is not in stock, as they do not inform you, time has been lost and you need to start sourcing a supplier again.
OUR RESPONSE TO THEIR RESPONSE:
Dear ?? you do not include the name of who sent your email… you have clearly not read the list of issues we incurred on this order, for example you say in your bulletin 1 paragraph 3 as soon as you became aware you promptly informed me it was out of stock, this is a lie as I called you to chase delivery and one of your team told me it was out of stock.
Your next lie in bulletin 2 you said you offer the refunds promptly but you sent an email saying I would have to wait 10 days for the refund which is scandalous, luckily we could afford to buy elsewhere but some people can’t afford to pay twice whilst waiting for you to return their money, this disgusting practice earning companies like yours lots of money in interest holding our money.
The next point I need to contest with you is where you try to justify your process by firstly blaming your suppliers, which is not our problem and secondly you say you are not a drop shipper but the definition of a drop shipper is what you are!: A drop shipper is a business or individual who sells products online without holding inventory, instead relying on a third-party supplier to directly ship items to customers after an order is placed.
The next issue you have selectively not addressed is why when you admitted the item was not in stock didn’t you adjust the stock on your website to say out of stock, I informed your manager and days later you still had it as in stock, which meant you probably disappointed many other customers.
You cannot just blame your suppliers, when we land on on your site we do not know this is not your stock, you should be fair and transparent like your claim in bullet 4. I can assure you that the service we received was not fair,transparent, pleasant, honest, respectful, or professional. We do not accept this apology clearly written by Ai, nor do we recommend this company.

• Our website runs a stock feed directly from one of our suppliers, which in turn relies on the manufacturer’s stock feed. While these systems are updated regularly, there is a very slight time delay in reflecting real-time stock levels.
• At the time of your purchase, the item was listed as in stock. However, due to unforeseen supply chain disruptions, it became unavailable shortly after.
• As soon as we became aware of this issue, we promptly informed you and immediately offered a full refund, which you accepted.
2. Refund Policy:
• We aim to minimize inconvenience by offering refunds or alternative resolutions promptly. This ensures you are not financially affected while sourcing the product elsewhere.
3. Customer Interaction:
• Our team works hard to communicate openly and respectfully. If our response did not meet your expectations, we sincerely apologize and are reviewing the situation internally to ensure better handling in the future.
4. Legal Compliance:
• We operate fully within the guidelines of the UK Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations and take our obligations to customers very seriously. We do not intentionally misrepresent stock levels, and our processes are designed to uphold transparency and fairness.

While we understand your frustration, we must firmly refute the claim that we operate as a “drop-shipper” or engage in unethical practices. We work a number of trading websites with trusted suppliers and rely on their systems and the manufacturer’s updates to provide accurate information to our customers.

Poor quality and poor returns policy!

The delivery service was excellent. However this is the only compliment I can afford this experience, and this was handled by a separate company.

The desk I ordered was not of sufficient quality and I looked to return it. After 3 weeks of chasing a response after multiple calls and emails I was told that I would need to return at my own cost (which I accept), a 25% handling fee (which is ridiculous), the goods must not have been unpackaged, presumably so you can’t see the quality of the product. I don’t know on one hand how I can open a package to inspect for damage and not open it if I want to return it… I’m now stuck with a poor quality desk that I have no use for.

Thank you for your email regarding the return of your Optimax packaging machine for inspection and repair. I understand your reluctance to proceed with this, but please note that the machine was purchased with a customer return-to-base warranty.

As a reseller of thousands of products we are bound by all of our suppliers terms and conditions and we do not have the option to change their delivery options. What we do is clearly state this on our website for our customers to make the decision as to if they are happy to adhear to this before they purchase.

We clearly stated: Supplied with manufacturers 2 year return to base warranty

Awful delivery service

I ordered some overalls for a project with the express request to have them delivered within the 2 days stipulated on their website as I have guys on an emergency off-shore project and needed them quickly.
3 days later, I contact Don Ruffles to ask where my overalls are. They got the address correct on the invoice, but messed up the actual delivery address. Apparently they had tried to deliver them without success, but did not let me know.
Only when I contact them 24 hours before travelling overseas on the project do they tell me that they will now deliver them in 4 days time.
Unacceptable. Cancelled order. Will not use again.

Shredder arrived the next

Shredder arrived the next day after ordering. Our previous shredder had let us down and was out of service and really needed replacing. We had a mountain of unwanted confidential paper to dispose and it was money well spent clearing the backlog swiftly.

Not possible to return an item

Not possible to return an item.
I ordered from this company thinking it was a regular firm carrying stock, but they seem to be an intermediary. They should really say this. As such I couldn't just return an item that was incorrect when it arrived. The company are friendly and helpful as possible, and speed is terrific, but the third party supplier doesn't seem interested in helping. This sort of business model didn't work out this time. After three weeks, reluctantly I have to post this review. For most items, they're probably fine.
