Lovely coloured paint and looks good when first applied but there are several big buts:
- incredibly difficult to apply without it looking patchy
- very difficult to cut in with due to paint consistency
- it marks ridiculously easily. It's only been on our walls 1 month and already the walls are covered in scratches
It's just not worth the premium price tag when I'll have to repaint every 6 months.

Applied to new traditional lime render, internal
1. uneven application, any tiny invisible scratches in the surface are exploited by the paint leading to bumby surface, if you could not see any defect before you will after this paint.
2. After 6 months fine black mould is appearing, wall is dry but being traditional lime could be breathing water out, lack of biocide allows mould spores to grow quickly.
3. when I went to overcoat using 3/4 of an old tin the paint was useless, the tin had corroded from the inside and the paint was stained with rust.
All in all terrible on traditional hot lime walls, which is specifically what I bought it for.

Fantastic paint and customer service. During my first renovation I discovered Earthborn paints after finding my perfect green colour. From ordering samples to full tins of paint the customer service was great and really fast delivery. The paint its self has great coverage and goes on the walls smooth giving a really good finish. I have used both clay paint and lifestyle through out my home and always get compliments from visitors on the colour and finish to the paint. I would certainly recommend.

I have used Earthborne several times. The colours are always beautiful and clay paint is really nice to use. Not only is it great for the environment, the coating is thick and it is easy to clean.
I have also called up a few times for help with samples and customer service has been nothing but helpful, even helping me to pick my kitchen colour and advising my lifestyle needs the durable emulsion in the kitchen as an alternative.
Love the products and I will keep using them.

I live in a Victorian property and needed help with choosing paint for my lime walls. I phoned and spoke to a really helpful lady on their customer service team. She recommended Clay paint, I’ve not used their paint before, it is quite thick, so covered really well. Lovely paint!

Lovely customer service and speedy delivery. I used their Lifestyle paint in my kitchen and would highly recommend!

Firstly I've used the clay paint for what must be twenty years now and if the walls are finished properly prior to painting it is about the best wall paint you will use. The coverage is great and the finish has a depth and quality that is the best I have ever seen. however it can have issues especially if your walls have previously had other finishes used. I work and live in North Wales and most properties have no DPC and are stone built with lime mortar. So over the years crap builders have left their mark, in that cementitious products are everywhere and applied surface finishes trying to prevent damp tracking to the surface finish inside are the order of the day! Obviously do your best to isolate these issues or better still remove them and replace with the original building products. A good tip here if it is just a previous finish which is causing problems, ie. the paint won't stick or is reacting to anything you apply is to use the earthborn wall glaze to coat all surface areas first, two coats usually suffice. don't follow the tin instructions but dilute to 25% product and 75% water. That should sort that problem. Do not use PVA on these type of solid wall buildings, It does not breath whereas the glaze does!
So, now to the interior wood eggshell finish. Some 15 years ago I bought quite a lot for a job I was undertaking and quite frankly it was crap! wouldn't cover well, dragged under the brush (and I use Purdy brushes)! No better with a roller either as it just doesn't stick to the work and is patchy, if you go back over it, it takes it back off the only way is to overload the roller and then all you get is a patchy finish with roller edge marks. Try and de-nib between coats and it rubs straight through to the base coat (great if you want the worn shabby sheik look). I wasted loads of money o that job and guess what, Earthborn tried to tell me I was doing it wrong!
Well, fast forward to the present and I knew that they had said they had improved it (no. 17) but honestly I couldn't see it, suckered in to try it again it was just as vile to use as it was before. One further issue is that no matter how well you stir it prior to use it starts to separate back into its primary colour palate as you are using it! Believe me, I can paint. and I'd defy anyone to to get a better finish than I could get, perhaps a sprayed finish? I can't testify to that as my work situations just don't allow for this method. If you are not a professional or even an excellent amateur don't go there!

Finally a previous post has knocked Celtic sustainables I have delt with this company for over 10 years, probably 15 and they have been nothing but fantastic in every respect. I can only assume that the problem was referred to Earth Born who I have to say really should listen far more carefully to the end user, guide then if they are doing something wrong and believe people who tell them there's a problem with their product!

We renovated an old house in the south of France, replastering throughout with lime. Every surface, walls, ceilings, woodwork was then painted in St John and White. The major part of the decoration was completed in 2018, and there has been some touching up since. I found the paint excellent to use as did a professional decorator who came in to help. It's a doddle to apply with roller or brush, the surfaces looks great and there's next to no smell.

I’ve just completed refurbishing a couple of rental properties. One, an interior of an old cottage which needed breathable paints to help stop damp issues so used the Claypaint on all the walls, and the other a more modern property so used Lifestyle emulsion for extra durability. Eggshell No.17 was used in both for all the woodwork.

These are fabulous paints to use, thick and creamy and the ultra matt finish on the Claypaint is just beautiful. Great coverage too, some areas only needed one coat but two coats gives a really good finish and better value than cheaper paints which often need more coats.

Another Farral & ball rip off.
Covers ok or as good as the main brands but as with F&B paint you can't touch it in. Painted my house last week few scuffs since then so touched them in and the whole house will need repainting.

In short; covers nearly as good as dulux, costs 3x more, does not touch in once its dried. Match their colour and have it mixed in a brand that has wear an tear built into their product.

So wished this stuff would work aswell!!! From a disappointed customer. Cheers x.

We purchased ‘White’ clay and eggshell and also ‘Hideyhole’ grey clay and eggshell for the inside walls of our house. The paint cost a small fortune, at nearly £1000, or £90 for a 5L pot!!

Each of the pots of white clay wall paint had rubbery lumps in it. No matter how much our decorator mixed it, the lumps just wouldn’t disappear. When they rolled it onto the wall they had to go back over every wall by hand and pick lumps of paint off the wall. A terrible paint. The white eggshell is terrible too, as it dries very streaky regardless of how many coats allied and literally started to wipe off after a few weeks.

But the ‘Hideyhole’ dark grey paint is the worst. Our decorator applied two undercoats and two top coats and it was still very patchy and streaky. We sent pictures to the Earthborn technical person and he blamed the application and not the paint (surprise surprise). Their advice was exactly what the decorator did with the first two coats, so we’ve decided to bin all £1000 worth of Earthborn paint, as you can’t return after 28days.

We are going with Dulux instead and cannot recommend Earthborn.

I've bought from Earthborn twice now. The first time was for interior wall paint. We've recently moved into an old 1890s house and the old owners used the wrong type of interior paint - modern acrylic-type paint that wouldn't let the walls breathe, and as a result the paint had starting chipping off with trapped damp. I stripped this paint back and repainted with Earthborn clay paint. It's only been 2 months but this paint has survived through a frosty and moist winter, and the walls are showing no signs of damp or chipping.
My second purchase was for exterior walls - Silicate primer and silicate masonry paint. I've only just started applying the primer so I can't comment on it all just yet. But I wanted to leave a review as I called the company with a few questions and the lady who took my call was incredibly lovely and informative, and clearly knew the products very well. She offered some very useful advice which I've been following.
On top of everything, both my orders were delivered hassle-free by courier within 24hours of ordering.

Absolutely dreadful paint! Bought the paint for wooden indoor furniture. Firstly the tin was almost impossible to open, even with the paint tin tool. Colour (Puddling) looked exactly as on the colour chart when painted and still wet. I wanted a dark navy colour but as it dried it changed to a Wedgwood blue colour and looked nothing like the colour chart. At this point it looked patchy which I expected after a first coat. The following day I painted a second coat, expecting the colour to darken and become even, which it didn’t. The second coat was difficult to apply on top of the chalky first coat and the paint dragged. Once dry the colour was still the same blue colour, nowhere even close to navy! To make matters worse, it was still patchy and now showed the brush stroke marks too. 16 hours of painting over 2 days and a terrible result. I now need to buy more paint that will actually dry as navy, and spend more time painting. Wish I had stuck to Farrow & Ball which I have always used in the past. Will never buy from this company again.

Bought Winter Garden Paint which is NOT Green but Finishes as Light Blue Matt!, Disappointed my first and last try with this company!

I have used this paint for a while now. The eggshell is absolutely brilliant to use and has a lovely finish. Expensive it may me, but worth every penny.

Had a problem with a tin going a bit strange. They replaced it. What more can you ask?

I do decant the paints into plastic contaners for long rem storage, this stops all those rusty bits from the lid falling into the paint

Fabulous Clay paint: 1 coat covers everythig perfectly.
Lighter colours are amazing: I have never seen such a soft, matt finish. Dark colours are rich and beautiful
However.... we applied them on lime plaster (3 months old) and they interacted with the lime creating lighter patches. (it's been 8 months after the paint application now, we will give it another lick of paint soon to see if this rectifies the problem). If you have a perfect and perfectly dry wall to paint on, the dark colours are unbelievable too

Order another can of Clay Paint Sunday night and it arrived Tuesday morning and on the wall by Tuesday night! Very good coverage, only needs one coat, but it goes on very thick...

We followed all the instructions to the letter but the paint has not stuck to the plaster, has gone rubbery and is now peeling off - it only went on a month ago!!!!!!! The eco credentials are good but it is just not up to the job. AVOID!!!!

I've found so many gorgeous paint shades by Earthborn and every time I use it, it applies really easily. Just one coat was needed for a really nice matte finish.

Lovely paint. Covers really well. Highly breathable which is ideal for our 400 year old limestone walls. The only downside is that it marks really easily so be prepared to be touching up in high traffic areas. Would also be useful if they offered a colour matching service, I’ve had to buy several colours and mix myself which adds up!
