Buyers will find any way to scam you
Buyers will find any way to scam you. If you don’t include everything in your description they will find a way to cheat you out of partial refunds. Its disgusting. Make sure you take a hundred photos and videos of all products you sell. Believe me buyers will find a way to screw you.
Zero Rating...if I could leave one.
Zero...if I could leave one.
I was once a "power-seller" on eBay with a great rep. 100% satisfaction as a buyer & a seller.
Market Crash of 2009 changed that.
Took a decade-long hiatus & only used eBay occasionally during that time.
That's when eBay started changing their "user agreements".
I returned in 2019 to find exhorbitant "fees" & loopholes where fraudulent buyers & sellers took advantage of HONEST buyers & sellers.
Fees KEPT INCREASING up to 2020...& EVERYTHING that was wrong with the "user agreement" became "we can't help because of covid" (furthering my suspicion that "covid" was economic more than viral).
The "straw that broke the camel's back" was finding an absurd 44% in fees & charges ADDED UP to sales I made & eBay taking NON-REFUNDABLE shipping charges BEFORE the option to choose a shipping platform was made by me.
The "shipping fee" on top of "final value fee" & "state taxes" for SELLING (that's a BUYER'S RESPONSIBILITY...which they "charge the buyer" sales tax as well).
Taxes paid (which I ALWAYS DID) is the respinsibility of the individual & NOT the place for the crooked gov't IRS system & their "billionaire corporate entity buddies" to unjustly fleece the taxpayer, RAISE THE TAXES HIGHER...& fleece the taxpayer MORE!
After 20 years of buying & selling (with the WHOLE platform getting exponentially WORSE), I am closing my account COMPLETELY after 20 years.
Not eBay...GREEDbay!😡
They could care less about your…
They could care less about your comments and suggestions. They have a worthless Recommended for You that shows up on your Home Page every time. What a wasted thing to ruin the home page with Garbage like this. They are deaf to the users opinions. You OFFERUP for a better user experience.
scamBAY is more like it
scamBAY is more like it. Never again would I use eBay. eBay does in fact help sellers rip you off. Seller sent item to wrong address. Seller then doesn’t respond to my messages. After leaving negative feedback, eBay deletes my feedback and says seller did his part per contract. I finally engaged seller with threats of escalating corrective action and he then followed through. Had eBay not protected the seller this would not have happened and it would have been corrected right away. After decades of buying and selling on ebay with multiple businesses, as well as personally, I will never use them again for purchases or sales. Amazon grows rapidly for a reason. The way they take care of their customers speaks of a value integrity that eBay has lost along the way.
Impossibe return after 90 days!!I No Tel. number!!
I contacted the seller of an item that died in only 4 months. The seller said to open a "return request". It was impossible!!! Ebay does NOT provide a telephone number like Amazon does. Ebay does not hold a candle to Amazon in terms of being user friendly. Ebay only deals with items you bought 90 days ago. The chat room they send you to starts asking you the same questions even after you answer them. I will NEVER use Ebay again.
ebay now helps people steal from you in MORE ways...
Update #2 (Sep, 2025)
They have now forced all sellers to accept "Free Returns", regardless of the reason given, and they are forcing sellers to pay for at least half of return shipping costs. This would be fine if we sold small items, but we ship car parts, the "Free" shipping costs both ways can cost us as much as the item cost. In addition, we've had customers open a return and send us their old junk part and we are forced to give them full refund, no deductions for shipping cost or penalty for what is basically placated theft by ebay. Steer clear if you can, ebay doesn't see an issue with any of this bc 1.) It is not their money to begin with, and 2.) They control your funds, so they do what they want.
Update (2023): I didnt think they could get any worse, but they found a way. I removed one star bc now as a seller, you cannot call and talk to customer service rep unless you pay $30, $300, or $3000 A MONTH for a Premium service tier. I guess their 14% in fees wasn't enough, now they want more money off the backs of sellers. Just so greedy and pathetic.
Original review:
I have been an ebay user for almost 20 years. (I gave 2 stars because it used to be good). And while it used to be a great place to buy quality new and used items at great prices, I have seen a very steady decline in quality of items and customer support, to the point where they just help placate the theft. (WARNING: Buyers are pulling these scams on Amazon and being supported by corporate as well). First, they don't care what people are selling, they will take their fees and make money off sellers any way they can. While searching for a car part, I found nude photos of underage girls for sale and reported them and the seller multiple times. Weeks and months later the "items" were still for sale. If you're bold, search ebay for "pinups" (specifically the seller rainbowpinups), you'll get an eye full. I wrote a review of this on Google Play multiple times, and every time it gets removed as well. And when I wasted money on items that did not work that could not be returns and tried to warn other buyers, those reviews were removed as well (and Amazon has begun doing this also). They don't want to turn away a buyer (and money in their coffers) who sees a bad review, so they remove it. Second, I work for a seller and we have had to create a Fraud Department to handle all the dishonest people trying to steal from us since they went to "Managed Payments". The most common is ordering the wrong part and then forcing the return shipping cost on us as "Wrong Item Sent". The worst ones (that happen on Amazon as well) is buyers that say "Did not receive the item" 3 months after it was delivered, or opens a case bc they're past the return window, and then we are forced to refund the money and NOT get the part back. I know, it's insane and makes no logical sense, but they don't care. I used to spend THOUSANDS a year on ebay. But from now on, I am only using them when I have no other option. I am willing to spend a few more dollars on something local if it means I am giving less money to China and the stock holders at ebay.
Ebay now removes all negative feedback
Once upon a time Ebay operated on the principal we’re buyers could leave negative feedback for sellers so that the next buyer in line would have the benefit of seeing another buyers experience with this seller. That is no longer the case as I have confirmed with top management at Ebay. Their new policy is in place to “specifically protect the sellers” by removing any and all negative feedback that people leave, even if it’s legitimate. eBay makes their money from the sellers, so they have now set up a scheme where they protect their sellers, at the expense of all future buyers! Whatever you do do not believe the sellers feedback rating as they are all lies.
I have been buying and selling on eBay…
I have been buying and selling on eBay for over 11 years and have noticed a steady decline in the secure selling aspect in the last three, mostly related to the amount of fraudulent buyers posing as legitimate bidders that eBay has done nothing to prevent these scammers from gaining access. You really have to monitor your sales on high end tech devices, especially new smartphones like the iPhone13 and Samsung Galaxies where these bottom feeders try to disrupt your sale and basically try to "steal" the phone. I personally will not bid on phones when I see a zero feedback loser has bid on the item as this is a sign of bad things to come and eBay is all about protecting the buyer with no questions asked. These zero feedback people are bid manipulators who will over bid and inflate the cost of the phone so you have to pay attention not to get ensnared in their deceitful ways. Now after the sale concludes this is where the real drama starts, you may receive an email from some unknown bidders who has been piggy backing the sale and they will attempt to dupe you into shipping to them at a totally different address and state, or the true winning bidder never pays you and you have to wait 48 hrs to cancel the sale then relist the item which is a big pain in the buttocks. If you do not proactively report these losers to eBay they will continue to do this over and over, they are like cockroaches coming out of the woodwork. I can spot these people immediately and typically will cancel their bid and block them from bidding on my items. I will also relay this to my fellow sellers apprising them of the risk they are taking by not eliminating the bidders. I have many sellers that emailed me to tell me I was correct and how to proceed to get out of this situation. A lot of these fraudulent bidders are international buyers(Russia Federation = big trouble) who are quite adept at scamming people. You have to set up your sale items and stipulate in the listing that you do not ship internationally so you have a way out of the sale without being punished by eBay. I was nearly scammed a dozen times early on prior to becoming knowleadgeable enough to spot these losers. I agree with all the people who have posted the negative reviews, it is not a SAFE platform to do business on even as a buyer, just this year alone I had five terrible experiences with some straightforward purchases which totally soured me on using eBay. I had to fight tooth and nail just to get my money back as eBay took so long to take action, and we are talking thousands of dollars out of pocket I had to wait a long period of time to get reimbursed and subsequently those sellers were kicked off eBay. I really enjoy selling smartphones on SWAPPA! Their platform is well secured and structured to assist the sellers. No hidden or high fees and very simple to navigate. I hold them in high regard as opposed to eBay as they descend to oblivion. Their site is not secure and eBay profiles are easily spoofed or compromised with relative ease(another experience I have incurred!). Their customer service is abysmal in most cases, they simply do not listen or understand the severity of your complaint(case) and ask you redundant questions over and over until they push you to your boiling point of total frustration! Fortunately I document each sales and transaction should something go sideways in the process so I can prove there was no negligence on my part. It is a total hassle from start to finish, you are waiting on pins and needles throughout until the money hits your account(this has improved greatly in the last year as eBay has streamlined this process!, which is fantastic, this is the one nice comment I can make about eBay) I could go on and on but you get the gist.
eBay is falsely charging customers fees
I'm submitting this complaint against eBay to the New York State Atty. Gen.'s office, for their review. eBay is falsely charging customers fees that are not valid. I sold an item, and the customer informed me that he would not accept the product. I immediately told FedEx to return the product to me and that the customer threatened to refuse the shipment. FedEx told me there would be no shipping charge incurred because the product was never delivered. eBay still charged me $43. I had a pair of headphones selling on eBay that was purchased for $745. Because of these ongoing issues, I decided to no longer use eBay and authorized eBay to refund the entire $745 to the customer held in my eBay account. eBay is now charging me $100 because they told me there was a final value fee chargeback. I did not cancel the transaction because they required me to attach my bank account to their payment system to cancel the transaction. There was no reason to attach my bank account because the funds were already in eBay's payment system. It would be ludicrous to link my bank account to eBay, considering the ongoing issues with false charges. They could have withdrawn any amount at their discretion.
Additionally, I'm tired of customers fraudulently labeling a used product as new. EBay's category system that labels things as new, new-other, or open-box is deceptive. Most people would assume an open box was a demo product and would be covered by a warranty. For the most part, the Open-box listing is a used product with no warranty. I've purchased products classified as new that was clearly used when received. I think eBay needs to be regulated because the amount of fraud on the platform is enormous.
Left them once, doing it again permanently!
I left amazon after many years of being a prime member. I also got fed up with Ebay, because it always takes so very long to get what you ordered.
I gave Ebay another try, ordered several books.
The delivery date keeps getting moved up.
This is unacceptable and Ill be removing my account permanently this time.
Took my money and have never received…
Took my money and have never received product. Trying to complain is an ordeal they want u to sign up and I ordered as a guest and they just ignore all my emails. They charged me for a sale I never collected money on so I owe them nothing and they refused to rectify it. I will NEVER use or shop ebay again!
Risky place to buy and sell
Risky place to buy and sell. Sold something on eBay for the first time in years and found it to be the most nerve-racking experience ever. eBay doesn't know how to police it's own website and it is scary. Example: I sold an expensive item via auction and the moment the auction finished I received and email from a "scam-user bot" asking me to send the item to a new address. Was given a sob story about why the address needs to be changed and nothing else. The "scam-user bot's" profile was created the same day as the auction ended and had zero information about the user. Luckily I had looked up what to watch out for, eBay was aware of this but do not know how to handle these scammers.
eBay's customer service is only reachable via Twitter from what I could find and contacting them takes a day at a time per message.
I was lucky that the payment went through and I sent the item to the buyer's correct address. I was also lucky that the buyer didn't decide to file a fraudulent complaint because I found out that it is common for scammers to do so. Buyers can get away with receiving the package, claiming the box was empty, and getting their money back on top of stealing from the seller. To safe guard myself for this, I recorded myself packing the item in the post office parking lot and walking it into the post office.
Its that simple for scam buyers to rip off sellers.
eBay has turned into a toilet!
I will not waste your time explaining the whole mess but I have been ripped off by a seller for $1,400. everybody knows you can't contact eBay by phone, email, or text. I've been trying for four months to recover my money but eBay is covering for this seller and has been from the beginning. the majority of the posting was fraudulent, the product had a warranty that has been ignored and no copy of the warranty has been supplied (this is not legal) but eBay doesn't care. I hope to start a class-action lawsuit against this fraudulent operation.
Ebay kept sucking my blood as they have…
Ebay kept sucking my blood as they have hidden subscription on your ebay account. I contacted them regarding the charges and they won't able to provide details. This company is a true trash. Check yours if you see any weired fees.
Unprofessional Zero Character Snowflake Reps
Company is prejedice against buyers of electronic processors. Other day spoke with 2 reps neither wanted to fix the problem one claimed no issues after several rejects of payment. Purchase was for a "great cause" kids would continue to build and stay busy with personal computers instead ebay suspends account due to misguided policy. Snowflakes have double cappuccino with extra cheesecake for your troubles. Will take my business else where.
P.S. minus -5 rating room for improvement.

SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unhappy with EBAY
EBAY, learning why you must create an account in order to resolve any issues. Ebay sells/gives away account holders personal information to phone and internet scammers. I desolved my account with Ebay long ago and order as a guest. Now that I have not received an item, I can't contact Ebay as a guest to resolve the problem with Ebay or the seller. According to the shipping company (UPS) (NO HELP FROM UPS AT ALL. THEY JUST TOLD ME IT WAS DELIVERED). Yea sure, just not to my address. Oh well. I received a 35 dollar lesson. DO NOT, DO NOT deal with ebay.
