Therapists should stop recommending this service

I used this service a long time ago, with some success, but I tried it yesterday a couple of times, and on both occasions, they just left me hanging after some introductory AI acknowledgements. Therapists still recommend this service, but maybe they shouldn't, given the level of negative reviews. If you're desperate and people just leave you hanging, it's the worst thing and can be dangerous.

Service? There was no service. Over 5 hours of automated messages informing me I can opt out at any time and that charges apply . Eventually told that I should try in the daytime when it was less busy. My first message to you on that day was at 13:30.

I contact you out of desperation, and your only replies were to discourage me from using the 'service'.

The training is awful all done with an…

The training is awful all done with an AI which is terrible, we are told what to say and it goes against everything I believe as a person, I am at the end of a level 4 counselling course wanted some experience of texting, the marking of work is awful and takes ages and I will not carry on with this service, it’s not authentic and think they would only be happy if you copy and pasted all replies which is why they tend to repeat themselves

Waste of time

Waste of time. I provided details of a family member in crisis and just got flippant replies, prolonging the chat. When I was finally asked what my aim was (to prevent a suicide, obviously) I gave up. Alarmingly, every time I sent a message, my phone said a charge would be made, yet the website says this is a free service. I think it’s a scam

We're sorry to hear you didn't feel adequately supported when you texted in worried about a family member. By asking what the aim is, our volunteers are trying to focus in on the particular help that will support the person using our service. We understand there are times we need to support the person texting themselves - often an extremely worried relative or friend.

It can sometimes be helpful to share our number with the person you are concerned about so they can reach out to us to talk.

I waited 4 hours for a response and…

I waited 4 hours for a response and eventually gave up. I understand this service must be busy but I think it’s unfair to advise that they ‘try to respond within 5 minutes’ when looking at other reviews it’s simply not true, if they said will try to respond within an hour or something along those lines I’d be more understanding and appreciative of the honestly that they are a busy service

AI Based experience - avoid

This should potentially be an amazing service - but after sharing some very personal thoughts it's quickly clear this is an AI based chat. I would say this is quite dangerous for the service they claim to offer.

Unhelpful and blatantly ignorant

Waited 3.5 hours after constantly texting and getting those constant fake messages in response. Finally got through to someone who just kept asking me the same generic question (tell me about your feelings, expand etc) and didn’t actually offer me any help. I told them constantly that i did CBT/therapy for 2 years straight and I did not want to do it again and asked if I should seek help elsewhere. She sent my a booklet which was literally CBT, it said on the first page. Then immediately ended the conversation. Cheers.

Absolutely rubbish generic responses

Absolutely rubbish generic responses, clueless answers to thoughts, probably and hopefully all AI bots because if any NHS money is going to this place its a waste.

Plus side I’m so baffled at the chit answers my problems can take a back burner.

Quick to end chat, hurt a bit

It went okay at first but as soon as they sent some links they where so fast to close the chat they didn’t even ask me if wanted to end it, made me feel 10x lonely than before

A waste of space

I texted 2 volunteers last night. They both used the same generic responses. Seems like they have a Bank of responses to choose from. They have absolutely no idea. This service needs to rethink their approach and train their volunteers appropriately to deal with suicidal clients such as myself. I found them patronising to say the least. Be careful. I think Shout are doing more harm than good

Pointless working for them

Pointless working for them, if your references don't fit into their portal, they won't accept you. Even a bonafide document by a reputable company wasn't good enough.
**Update**

Advisor said suicide was good plan

I told the advisor I had an idea to leave the house and overdose so my mum wouldn't find me, she told me it was a good plan and asked if she could end the chat.

I went into severe spiral and if my friend hadn't called nhs 111 on my behalf I'd probably have followed through.

I've used this service a couple of…

I've used this service a couple of times before today and both volunteers were wonderful. I'm currently waiting for a response again due to an incident that's shaken me up and I can't sleep. No answer yet but I can wait and I understand it's a busy weekend night. I've been reading the reviews to distract my mind and I'm really sad to see so many bad reviews. I highly recommend this service but only if you have realistic expectations about what this free service can offer.

Been having a really rough time again…

Been having a really rough time again recently and thinking about ending it. Thought one last chance to see if anyone anonymously could help. Messaged this number from the “if u care share “ website and it’s now been about 45 minutes and no response.
For a 24/7 “crisis support” line it’s been absolutely useless.
The only message I received after this was from Vodafone saying I’ve been charged for the texts to an international number.
So not only am I left feeling worse than before, but I’ve actually been charged for trying to get the non existent help.
If anyone is feeling as awful as me right now, please try other methods as I’ve decided to write this reviews and try and sleep off my thoughts for 1 more night, hoping to help someone else, no thanks to this company.

Helpful service

I think this company is getting a hard time. People are upset at waiting times but like everything else you have to wait. These people don’t have to give up their time but they do. They’ve helped me get through the moment and helped to put a plan together that I can follow. One thing I will say is the conversation has felt a bit rushed. I have been in the middle of writing a bit of a long message and they have been about to end the chat. Also don’t feel I’m given enough time to talk. Texting is longer than an actual phone call. There are response times and once you take that into account 40 minutes isn’t much actual communication time.
A part from that I’ve had really good help

Very helpful experience

It barely took any time for a person to get back to me and they was very lovely and helpful. They managed to talk me through these feelings and thoughts that I was having and helped me come up with a plan to calm down and ease these feelings.

They don't care I tell them I want to kill myself he responds every 3-5 minutes I could stab myself in the neck in that time they don't care at all what's the point of getting this job if your not gonna help the people
