Having had trouble with Gumtree in the past, I thought that I would give them a second chance, I wish that Hadn't bothered. I posted an advertisement for a camera and paid a fee to have it Featured.
I checked in: For sale - Cameras, camcorders & studio equipment, the logical search and category where it was originally posted and there was no sign of my ad. To add insult to injury they told me that they had deleted my advertisement because it was in the wrong category. No it wasn't! Within this category I noticed a car battery, binoculars, telescopes a van battery, security grills, some duplicated a number of times. Still there for all to see!
If you decide to use this company, use the free ad, but on no account pay any money to them. My account closed.

I ran a local business, and I thought I'd try advertising on Gumtree via their premium 'Spotlight' package (£29.99 for 7 days). My ad was supposed to be on the home page for a major city, but despite paying extra, I got barely any views or hits for my ad!

If you're looking to utilize the premium ad service on there, my suggestion is to spend your money on other platforms (where you get a better ROI).

This used to be a great site & I am happy to buy from decent sellers on this platform.

The problem is the timewasters, scammers & low ball hagglers that message when you list stuff for sale.

People seem to forget it's a selling site. Why contact a seller if you are not intending to buy? Its weird.

These bored people who pretend to be interested haven't read the listing. They just want to browse your house or see what they can get for free.

There is a freebie section. Why not look at those ads?

Ghosting is a big thing. People get as far as making arrangements, then just ghost you. No commitment to sales because they haven't paid for it yet. A timewasters paradise.

I am not happy about giving a collection address or phone number if people wont turn up or bother to message. I don't trust most of the messages to be genuine.

It wasn't anywhere near this bad 10 years ago. Nobody can even say thank you. It's all about insulting offers & rude people who end up on the block list.

It's s a shame as there is some great stuff being sold.

Placed an advert for the sale of a litter of puppies and paid the fee of £67.75. Within five minutes they contacted me to say my advertisement was cancelled as it contravened their policies. I contacted them by email to ask about a refund of my fee only to receive a reply from them stating that their policy is that they do not issue refunds. They are nothing short of thieving villains. I really wish I could actually meet with them to express my utter dissatisfaction and contempt

Had a for sale advert running for 2 weeks for a Sony HD TV with no enquiries. Also had a new Amazon 4k Fire Stick Max with no enquiries. I decided to reduce the TV and include the Fire Stick for free. Paid Gumtree £1 to bump it up. They did not readvertise it stating it was pending. So I deleted the advert.

Very few and far between I will get a messages from scammers . The message seems genuine at first then the invasive questions start.At best a "is this still available ? " then after replying that it is they don't reply. Other than that the routine is more or less list on Gumtree ,delete from Gumtree when item sells on Vinted or Ebay. I have never sold anything on Facebook Marketplace or Depop either so Gumtree is not alone which begs the question are these sites completely pointless ?.
Clearly people do want to buy the things I sell as they sell on Vinted and Ebay I just cannot work out why they don't sell on Gumtree considering the asking price is sometimes 75% + less.

So the bag sitting here to go to the Charity shop has over £2000 worth of brand new clothing in it - About 50 items all with an original cost price over £50 and all had been listed on Gumtree for £1 each for over 6 months with no takers.
The previous box of clothing which went to the charity shop had 20 mixed brand new men's shirts original cost over £200 listed on Gumtree for £1 no takers.
I currently have listings for brand new items which cost £50 upwards for £1 each - no takers.
I have a listing for a £400 pair of unworn leather Boots for £5 no takers.

And as an extreme example of how rubbish Gumtree is I have a Flat , Yes a flat , a residence, a dwelling, or whatever you want to call it valued at £34.500. recently fitted with new double glazing . Not only has it not sold but I am not even getting any messages about it. Oh and the asking price ? £2000 !!!!.

I have been using Gumtree for years and have hardly had an issue! Very easy to use!! I just sold a motorbike the other week withing 3 days of the ad. Bearing in mind things are not selling anywhere at the moment, I was over the moon! I am surprised to see so many negative here as I haven't had these issues at all! Thank you gumtree for saving me a lot of money from other sites!

# Frustrated with Delayed Messages
I'm experiencing issues with delayed messages, causing me to lose potential customers. Messages are taking too long to deliver, and by the time I respond, clients have already moved on.

# Request for Improvement
It would be beneficial if messages could be connected to a normal SIM card number, ensuring timely communication.

# Pricing Concern
The current fee of £7.90 seems excessive. Is there a more cost-effective solution available? .

This company wants you to send all your details it is useless. All you want is to contact a advertiser and they want your life story. Load of rubbish. If some one is try to sell something why not use aphone number ,I can't put down real words off what I think not recommended at all

It says basic ads can be posted for free. I wrote up my ad and posted it. Ad went live, one hour later, it was removed due to being in the wrong category (it absolutely wasn't in the wrong category). The email said it was better suited in the services category. Instead of them moving my ad to said category, they just straight up deleted it.

I wrote up the ad again, chose the category they suggested, and now it says this selected category requires an £8 fee. So are basic ads free or not? Can no longer post an ad without having to pay. Passing on gumtree and will find somewhere else.

A fraudster has nicked my images and created an ad, using my images/description. I’ve reported the ad and emailed gumtree 48 hours ago. They’ve done nothing about it.

Firstly, it’s not a genuine ad, so his profile needs blocking. Secondly, for what purpose would he need to clone my ad? To commit fraud????????? This should have been taken seriously. Sadly, gumtree doesn’t mind people being scammed

Absolute Garbage!

I used to use Gumtree, with limited success a few years ago.

I recently uploaded an add for collection, but it will not show up in my ads.

Tried listing the item several times over the last 2 weeks and the same outcome, so no point in anyone thinking I might need to wait for the add to show as it would have done so by now!

A pathetic website that doesn't allow us to change an email address that has been compromised.
A site whose rules vary from person to person.
A confusing website that says we sell a nest box goes against their rules.
A website that instead of making people's lives easier does everything that is possible to give us a hard time.

I’ve no idea why people waste time with Gumtree. It’s nigh on impossible to get a response from sellers.
Either the items don’t exist, the sellers ignore messages or don’t even receive the messages in the first place.
Gumtree either needs to get their act together or ditch the idea.
Fleecebay might have rip-off fees but at least you get responses from sellers 99.9% of the time.

Not gumtrees fault. But why are there so many odd folk on it. I have three items for sale and had three individuals ask if it’s still available. Never hear from them again. And it’s not an isolated case. I’ve added a couple of items for sale with NO OFFERS. What do I get. Yep you’ve guessed it. The one item I hadn’t request NO OFFERS. I get an offer agree they can collect same day which they asked for. Nothing. Total bunch of moronic time wasting losers. Most odd. It’s not worth the hassle. I’ll take the things to charity. I’ve closed my gumtree account. It’s an insight a window into today’s moronic society. Hence why I’ve closed all my media accounts.

Within minutes of opening an account and posting items I received an offer. Very quickly I realised the offer was an attempted fraud. Four days later having immediately told gumtree I have had no feedback from gumtree at all. A waste of time.

It's a terrible platform.
And then there's the scammers!

I have had a few weirdos message me on Gumtree when I’ve had items up for sale. Can’t even give stuff away on there now. And when you do add items for free. You get people messaging to ask if you will drop it off for them, really?? Not sure it’s as popular anymore. There are much better places to sell used items now.

Gumtree Uk ... Worse than ever not working properly lots of errors and glitching all the time. It’s been going for a while few months now . Their updated version is cheap similar to Facebook Marketplace which is awful, dissatisfied for a lot of other people that are users who use it on regular basis. Saddest thing Not sure if this site will gonna survive for much longer. (Shame that was great market 2 years ago)
