We'd been using Gumtree for around two years without any issues. Then one of our ads was suddenly suspended, with no explanation and no notification that would have been useful.
We contacted customer support hoping to get some clarity. What we got instead was a suggestion to read their terms and conditions. That's not an answer — that's a deflection. If there was a specific reason our ad was flagged or removed, their support team either didn't know what it was or wasn't willing to tell us. Neither option is particularly reassuring.
The frustrating part isn't even the suspension itself. Platforms have rules, and sometimes things get caught incorrectly — that's understandable. What's not acceptable is a customer support team that can't tell you what rule was broken or why the decision was made. If you can't explain a decision to the person it affects, the process behind that decision needs looking at.
Two years of using the platform without a single issue, and the first time we needed actual support, there was none. We've since moved our listings elsewhere and haven't looked back.
If Gumtree wants to retain business accounts, being able to explain enforcement decisions to the businesses affected by them would be a reasonable place to start. As it stands, we wouldn't recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable platform to list their business.

Made the mistake of trying to sell items on here before moving house... My ads kept getting pulled for no reason - and I'd paid for them to be "boosted" - and when I asked for a refund they refused.

And when I did finally manage to sell something there's no indication of who bought it or what to do - just a stupid link to your phone that once clicked away is gone forever.

Avoid Gumtree – My Experience
I would advise tradespeople to be very cautious before signing up for this service.
I was initially told this was a subscription service costing £150 per month and that I could cancel at any time.
When I first received a call from a Gumtree representative, Vykes, I was told that my business would be promoted through leaflets and that my advert would appear on the first page. Neither of these promises matched my experience. My advert was placed towards the back instead. When I raised this with Vykes' manager, I was simply told that Vykes had left the company.
I am now being charged £180 per month and have been placed on a contract that I do not believe was clearly explained to me. On top of that, my account has been deactivated, meaning I cannot generate any work through the service, yet I am still being charged every month.
Even when my account was active, I received very few enquiries. I raised this issue with Vykes' manager, Tom Burke, but no effective action was taken to address my concerns.
From the beginning, I believe Gumtree's representatives were not transparent about the terms of the agreement and that I was misled into signing up. I believe it is unfair to continue charging me for a service that I cannot use while my account remains deactivated.
To make matters worse, my account has been passed to debt collection, despite my ongoing concerns. My emails and phone calls have largely gone unanswered, and I have been unable to get meaningful assistance.
This has been a very disappointing experience, and I would encourage other tradespeople to carefully read all terms and conditions, obtain everything in writing, and fully understand any contract before agreeing to this service.

Not possible to give less than one star. Posted ad stating collection only from Southampton UK giving postcode ( I have used gumtree successfully before) gumtree posted it as eligible for delivery so instantly my phone started pinging with hundreds of messages that I couldn't read or find on the site. Then I received an e mail telling me it had been sold to someone in Canada! The only way I could stop the constant incoming message pings still couldn't read them was to delete my account. Never using them again they're quick enough to take money but never refund it. Waste of time and had to reboot phone

When browsing the website, it does not work properly. The advert photos do not load, so the products cannot be seen. This happens regardless of the device I use or the location I am in.

Their technical support advised me to clear my cache and cookies, but that did not resolve the issue. Given that the problem occurs across multiple devices and locations, it is clearly not on my end. It appears to be an issue with Gumtree website, yet there seems to be little interest in investigating or resolving it.

Whoever decided that the customer is not allowed to use their own wording for their advert needs to be dismissed out their job role immediately. So that's why mine was deleted. WHO ARE THESE People and why are they destroying platforms like this with AI garbage. Didn't even get a reply from the so called customer service and was just ignored, I only asked why my advert was taken down. What are earth are all these employees that work for Gumtree actually doing in their job role if AI is doing everything for them. So many businesses reputations going down the toilet because of it and they all just sit back and think it's going to get better 🤣🤣

Signed up, posted a few ads, and my account was blocked for no apparent reason. They were quick to take my money but refuse to refund it until the account is unlocked, which can take up to four working days.

So now my money is tied up and my time spent listing is wasted. The whole point of signing up was to sell things fast, but ironically it'll take longer than I have time for.

Would give no stars if i could.
Posted poultry and they took payment for my advert.
They then declined my advert after taking my money.
Apparently they dont allow poultry but after checking there is 911 other adverts on there all for chickens
Contact them through live chat & they disconnected me with no excuses

Saw some bowls i had for sale on facebook, copied with same photo to Gumtree by a scammer, Hours after reporting the ad is still up, Gumtree dont give a fig if people get scammed

This site is full of time wasters and very dodgy characters. Don't bother trying to see anything decent on here

People should be made aware that Gumtree are now dictating the wording of anyone who wishes to place an ad on their platform. It doesn't matter if "their" description is an accurate one; if you do not agree to place "their" wording to sell your item, it will simply be deleted.

So, who is Gumtree serving? It certainly is not the buyer, and definitely not the seller who wishes to put an accurate" description and not a description worded by a moderator who knows nothing about what you want to sell. Does that come under mis-selling I wonder?

Use Gumtree at your peril I had an item go missing through gumtrees evri service not a lot of money I emailed them and they said they would pay for loss in transit I was told money sent nothing arrived messaged again they then told me it had been processed that day and be in my bank within 3 days guess what nothing arrives after a week I've given up now and told them to keep the poxy money more lies than pinochio

I was left a 1-star review by a disgruntled Gumtree user who was annoyed I held an item for someone else (who was the first person to express an interest). The review said I haggled too much (on a free item?) and that I cancelled the offer (I had screen grabs to prove that I did not make him one). Despite this, Gumtree refused to delete the review - not because they didn’t think the review was untruthful, but because I was ‘outside the 30 day window’ when I noticed the poor review. Avoid Gumtree and its users - who have the gumption to leave a 1-star review on a free item!

This is very horrible place put down deposit on sunbed but couldn't get subbed has wouldnt fitted through my door on my porch flat do asked for money back 375 pounds which this glyn the seller none said non refundable he scammed me my took my money

I wish I had come on trust pilot before I advertised. I am new to Gumtree advertising. I contacted them today to ask if I could change the radius of my advert as I mistakenly only put my area in and wanted to increases my advert radius. Their policies and rules are so strict that at the end of it the whole experience left me frustrated. Very confusing platform with even more confusing rules. In addition to this the support team are robots with very robotic answers. I will not be using them again.

Was trying to list on Gumtree and started getting an error. Did live chat with Yolanda who tried helping, she asked for a screenshotof the error, I sent her it and said what had just happened when getting an error. She said (Copied from the chat)... "What item are you listing, there must be an issue with it and no the platform".
She then promptly ended the chat without giving me a chance to say it didn't matter what else I tried to list it didn't work.

Great work Yolanda. Wasted 30 minutes of my life speaking to you.

Pros : love gumtree. Fixed prices, or small room for negotiation. Easy to,post (unlike eBay - which has turned into a pain in the rear to list an item), easy to search, I’ve listed many items, and bought many items, and aside from a lot of ‘is it still available’ messages that then don’t go further - it’s been a great platform
Cons : what has happened? I can’t see any images any more for items on sale. It’s unusable. I can see images for every other website apart from gumtree. Such a shame.

I sell furniture in my spare time and thought that Gumtree would be a brilliant app to sell on. And it was, for a short while.

For the past month I have posted items for sale and people have bought from me with no complaints because I’m honest and don’t scam people.

Up until today everything was running great. Then I receive an email from them saying that all of my items have been taken down because they “don’t comply with gumtrees terms and conditions”.

What I’m selling is not illegal, not prohibited or fake. Everything I sell is completely legitimate and genuine.

I have contacted there customer support and after waiting for 15 mins whilst they “look” at the reasons why, they give a short answer of “your account is restricted because it’s violated our terms and your account will not be reinstated” - no reason why, no chance to make anything (if applicable) right again.

It’s completely unprofessional and disgusting to treat sellers like this. It’s absolutely infuriating when you spend time gathering items to sell, write the title, the description, work out a price, chat with interested buyers and then go out and deliver the items.

I will never use Gumtree ever again, what an unprofessional company.

No issue with Gumtree, just the process. Selling a car is horrible: Time wasters and worse of all scammers: Car sellers beware. These are scam sites: BFMC and Motorrecords. A potential buyer will ask you to get a report, you pay approx £20-£40 but in doing so, these are fake sites and they get your card details. SCAM....
