Very disappointing experience with…

Very disappointing experience with Halfords MOT service.

I booked my MOT through the membership offer that included a “free MOT”, but the whole experience felt more like a tactic to generate repair income than a fair inspection.

My car was failed for issues including [INSERT FAIL REASONS — e.g. “wipers”, “bulb alignment”, “tyre wear”, “brake imbalance”, etc.], and I was immediately pressured towards paid repairs. What was most concerning was the way everything was presented as urgent and costly, despite the car not having shown any serious problems beforehand.

As someone attending alone, I genuinely felt taken advantage of and spoken to in a way that made me feel intimidated and pushed into spending money unnecessarily. Instead of feeling supported as a customer, I left feeling anxious, stressed and questioning whether the fail reasons were being exaggerated to create extra work.

An MOT should be about safety and transparency, not making customers feel pressured or vulnerable. I would strongly recommend getting a second opinion before agreeing to any expensive repairs suggested here.

Customer Service....What Customer Service

Bought an expensive e-bike, went wrong after 12-miles!
took it to the store, told it needed new ECU and Hub, need to order the parts, will be ready in 10-days to collect..we'll call you....No phone call, have to call a central number as no store numbers listed, they confirmed it's ready to collect, 45-minute drive to the store, it's in pieces as the parts have not arrived.
Phoned customer service, no record of my earlier call, did I have the name of the person I spoke to.
HALFORDS YOU ARE USELESS.

Halfords in Selly Oak

Just been to halfords in Selly Oak, Birmingham for a free bike check. Everyone from the security guard, cashier and shop floor staff were very helpful and accommodating. They even did a couple of tweaks to remove an annoying sound from by bike. Very impressed and excellent customer service

By far the worst experience of a garage…

By far the worst experience of a garage I’ve ever had. Hope anyone who considers giving money to these thieves reads this prior to doing so.

I had a diagnostics tests for a basic fault code, at first the guy on the phone advised it’s a simple intermittent problem and all sorted there and then. As soon as I got in car to drive a way this obviously wasn’t the case as he just cleared codes and hoped for the best rather than actually look what the issue is . Upon letting him know the issue was still there he advised he knows what the problem was and will get me a quote and estimated ‘a couple hundred quid’

As the days went my nobody got back to me. so had to chase a response, 8 attempts at calling the store and not once picked up the phone - assuming they know every phone call is going to be a complaint based on the shocking attitude and standard of work.

Finally after 8 days a quote was emailed to me advised that the part they apparently need has a 2 week wait time and part costs of £650. Alongside tax and the extortionate labour costs for these idiots equating to £1000 - long way off the ‘couple hundred quid advised in store’ A quick online search revealed the part is actually £50-£100.

Seems like the business model is solely to rip off old people who maybe aren’t as familiar with google search.

I have made sure that I have told all family, friends and colleagues about this con. Genuinely the worst customer experience I’ve ever had as well as the attempted robbery by then. Give it a few years and I’m sure there will be a Netflix documentary on these crooks. The only slight positive of the whole experience is reading other reviews about how they conduct business leaving me to realise at very least it’s not personal it’s just how they operate

They have lost a customer here

They have lost a customer here. I wanted to ask a question so I googled for contact details of my nearest store. They don't have a phone number available. Obviously it's far too much to ask for now days for somebody to be able to answer the phone and speak to you. So it said there was a live chat available, there was no live chat available just something telling me to leave my details and they will get back to me.i did and I never received any sort of reply. I'll take my business elsewhere

Shocking service and after care

Had Halfords tyres on the drive. Order two new tyres. Mechanic came on day a little earlier than time slot, so that was good...but then he went to remove wheels with locking wheel nut key and cracked part of the bolt and it got stuck in the wheel nut key! He told me to email the office and they would pay for the repairs before he could change the tyre. I have contacted Halfords on live chat 3 times to be given false hope someone would be in touch to sort out! Worse customer service I have ever had, DO NOT use these. Your values on your website aren't true about your products and service. No one emails you when I specially asked for one as I wanted to make a formal complaint. Let's see what happens as supposedly someone is going to be in touch with me tomorrow! .....pigs might fly!!!

Foul language by Halfords staff store manager who was describing his co worker very loudly near to the tills and exit of the store.

Appalling behaviour from a member of staff who should not be the manager.

Describing a fellow worker in this way is bullying.

Purchased a siphon given a different…

Purchased a siphon given a different type of jiggle siphon which does not actually syphon it is not product I purchased and customer service cannot help and process refund only at store this is against my statutory rights don’t use Halfords they are a joke

Had a free check as my car was due for…

Had a free check as my car was due for mot.
They told me l needed 2 new tyres and another was advisory.This is my first car and l panicked as money is tight and l was worried about the pending mot.
Got my grandad to have a look who said in his opinion there nothing wrong with the tyres and was sure they were all legal.Took the car to a tyre garage where my grandad goes and the boss inspected all 4 tyres and said come back and see us next year.Nothing wrong with them.

work charged for not carried out

Took my car in for a new front tyre and wheel alignment.
They told me it would take 2hours but it took 3
when I went back I asked for a print out of the alignment data which they emailed.
On closer examination I concluded that the data that they had sent me was not for my car even though it contained my registration.
I had the alignment rechecked at Kwikfit which showed misalignment on the front near side .
I have been trying for 2 weeks to seek redress for this issue but they keep closing down my case and just offering to reimburse me for what I payed for the tracking .
I thought a fair recompense would be to reimburse the full bill for the amount of time I have spent dealing with this case and the fact that I have been deliberately misled over the work done If I had not had the work checked elsewhere I probably would not have known that the work had not been carried out. I think this company is absolutely appalling and I will not be paying to have any more work done there. Looking at all the negative comments It makes me wonder why I ever used them before.

Yeovil 'Halfords' Awful Customer service

I just visited Yeovil 'Halfords' on the Houndstone Retail Park. To say the service was awful and i am fuming is an understatement. I Went to pick up a K4 Karcher Pressure washer (20kg in weight). I was given the wrong item, I clearly asked the scruffy member of staff b4 leaving, does that contain the T5 surface cleaner and car cleaning bits, he replied with a sort of an inaudable grunt and walked off. I humped the K4 bulky box to my car, opened it in my car boot, to find, NO CAR or HOME-KIT in said box. I returned to the same scruffy staff member in Halfords (Who incidentaly stunk of B.O.) humping the incorrect 20 kg item and told him my order was incomplete, he walked away from me, out of sight, whilst I was still talking to him, without uttering a word. He then reappears with the correct Karcher K4 + Home-Kit and Car-Kit and placed it on the floor in front of me saying absolutely nothing. He then walked off and starting stacking shelves as if it was a 'job well done'. Not so much as an apology, or even an explanation. His personal hygiene and manners were non existant. I finally humped the correct 20kg Karcher Kit back to my car. I am just thankful that I didnt drive 8 miles home, to then find I had been given the wrong item. Rude, rude, rude service with a stench of B.O.

Just want to post a positive experience…

Just want to post a positive experience with Cameron at the Tamworth store today. I was very stressed as my battery had completely died on my car and he was really reassuring and calmed me right down. He checked the life on it and it came back that there was a negative cell and my battery life was only 9%. He quickly changed my battery for me talking me through the whole process, very chatty and friendly within less than 10 minutes. Would definitely ask for this charming young man again if I was to ever have car issues.

I recently had 2 head light bulbs fitted by Aylesbury halfords £10 each!!...went for mot today and my car failed on the headlight bulbs..THEY WERE FITTED UPSIDE DOWN!!! I had to pay 27£ pounds to the garage ,so my complaint raised, i will be asking for a refund on fitting both bulbs plus the garage charge of £27.thankyou.

I bought an electric cycle in July of…

I bought an electric cycle in July of 2025, on 29 April 2026, the cycle abruptly stopped working with no power output despite the battery being fully charged the same morning. I phoned Halford customer service, shared my problem and said if it was ok to visit the Halford Southend on Sea store on London road on 30 April 10 am. The person on the other end ( name Lulu) said pl go ahead- I gave him 5 for customer service. I ( am 70yrs) cycled manually there only to be told that the technician is on holiday for 3 weeks. I phoned again customer service and shared the incorrect information given to me. The lady kept apologising, then told me that she would give me the nearest store to my location, which she could not despite me waiting on line. Finally I got tired of waiting and told her that she should give me the option to rate her services. she conveniently avoided it. I would have given both 0. The tele customer service is third rate, utterly useless and untrained. The store person told me it would be Raleigh another almost 6 miles.

Halford is very poor when it comes to customer service especially if you have a problem. My advice - buy from any other local store, they will be there when issues occur - big stores like Halford from its customer service frankly couldn't care less.

Went to collect my daughters bike and…

Went to collect my daughters bike and their was two imperfections, one on the brake and the other on the bell. I asked for a discount
and i was told that that could touch it up with paint. Manager did not care about this at all. Just waisted 2 hours of my time.Poor service !

This company is appalling

This company is appalling. They wouldn't sell me a bike at their Twickenham store as they were too busy and they couldn't even cancel an online order within 10 days. Avoid at all costs. Will be shutting down soon
