Disappointed - Faulty collar not covered by warranty
We purchased the Halo Collar 5 on October 29, 2025. We reviewed our options and while it was costly decided to purchase this one. It worked excellent for our dog until it didn't. We loved knowing he was safe to explore our acreage. Our dog was very good to it - never pawed at it or bothered it in any way. One day while he was wearing it we found the panel that holds the prongs in the yard. I contacted support expecting great service as promised on their website and all of their advertising. They will not cover it as they have deemed it physical damage from normal use. We have used this collar for about 6 months. This is definitely not what I considered normal use. Also the responses from the support team have been slow, which is frustrating when we've relied on this to keep our dog safe. Unfortunately we are very disappointed in the service we have received. Given our experience I can no longer recommend this product and service that we previously thought to be great.
GPS issues
I've tried both Halo 2 and the new Halo 3 collars for our dog and can say the Halo 3 was a huge improvement in the GPS over the 2nd generation. We don't have a big yard, just a fenced patio area so didn't get to really have much experience with using the product to keep our dog in the yard on a day to day basis, but found all the training videos to be really entertaining and educational if you have the patience to practice, but sometimes it corrects the dog even when its sitting nowhere near the invisible fence area and there is still room for improvement in GPS

I have 4 of the Halo 5 collars and tried older models
I have 4 of the Halo 5 collars. I've had the previous generation as well. I've tried multiple brands of wireless dog fences including the Fi dog fence and have not been satisfied. I lived in Alaska at the time and was disappointed in how well they worked, despite our awesome internet, cell capabilities. The Halo's worked amazing. 3 of my 4 dogs are very large breeds, one is a medium breed. They work to keep them in the yard, I now live in Maine with no yard, and near a main road. - I also have a couple beacons for extra protection near the borders of the road. Their customer service is amazing. If anything goes wrong with your collar within your warranty period they are quick to replace it, which extends your warranty period again. That is an amazing benefit that no other company does. I've taken mine camping, to friends houses - just setting up the borders when I get there, I havent tried it on walks though.

We spent a lot of money on this collar and would thus expect it to hold up to the wear and tear dogs can do on things... however after having for less than 6 months the rivets have fallen out and the rubber collar itself has started to split down the middle. I am not sure why they didn't make the collar part of the same material regular collars are made out of?! I paid under $10 for one of those and have had no issues! Not to mention they won't cover any of it, and referred me to the replacement parts page of their website.

These do NOT come with ALL required parts!
Unpacking the collar was a frustrating experience! I immediately realized the collars do NOT include a power block for charging! The company ASSUMES customers have power packs compatible, so to "save on packaging," they don't include them. Apparently you can purchase them online, which of course ADDS additional packaging and expense to the $500+ already spent! Since apparently I am the only person in the year 2026 without a drawer full of charging blocks with the recommended 20-25 watts, I went to the "accessories" webpage, where I did NOT find any power blocks available. I have not even put the collars on my dogs yet, and I'm already regretting my purchase! I should NOT have to make trips to the local retailers to purchase additional, required parts to make these collars work!

Time between collar swaps is not ideal.
The satellite collar is great. The only thing that seems to work with my dog. However he continues to test the fence and knows when the collar doesn’t work. I don’t like how you disable the collar, then the dog is unprotected for three days until the new collar arrives.

Could not be more disatified with my purchase
Could not be more disatified with my halo experience.
After just 4 months of having the halo 5 collar I started having batter life issues. I contacted the customer service team and they ran a on the collar and found that the battery was dying much faster than it should and that I can get a replacement but would have to go 5 days with out a collar for my dog.
I made a very reasonable request of being able to keep my dogs collar active while I wait for a replacement to arrive. I did not pay around $2k including subscription to have these collars to have issues with in 4 months. Being told that they can not keep it active for "safety reasons" is a load of crap, not even management would work with me on making sure my dog is truly safe.
So you guys would rather let my dog continue having issues or go with out a collar for a week while I wait for a new one to come?!?! How is either of those options "safer" for my dog?!
On top of that the gps accuracy is complete garbage and is constantly setting off the collars when they are still in the border. And also the allen head screws and the tips are constantly coming loose. One of the allen head screws is lost forever now.
I could not regret buying these cheap quality collars more, and of course I'm out side of the return window otherwise I would return it and go with a different brand.

Terrible customer service
Terrible customer service, good luck getting answers. The collar design is bulky and the app is not nearly as user friendly or beneficial as they say. I won’t be spending another dime with them.
It’s amazing that they responded to this review before replying to my customer service email! Further proves they aren’t worth it.

I purchased Halo collar 5 on March 22nd for $524. On March 24th it went on sale for $445. I called requesting reimbursement or credit since it had only been 2 days. They refused. I asked for manager. They called me back still refused. They said I could return the one I purchased for $25 and reorder. This company has terrible customer service.

These collars have changed my life with…
These collars have changed my life with my dogs, they picked up on how these work so quickly. Overall I am happy with my purchase, my two issues are;
1. If you have buildings are your property, the GPS will not stay accurate, the collars often go off when my pups are inside the house and considered "safe". not sure why they randomly do that, but it seems to confuse my pups. I just make sure I turn off the fences manually as soon as they enter the door.
2. The collars do not come with a charging block, not a huge deal since most people have charging blocks already (I did not), but for over $500.00 plus the monthly fees, I would think they would include a $10.00 charging block in the package.
The app is confusing until you get the hang of it, you can not walk out a fence guidline like they make it seem, you have to map out the fence with the pins on the app, which can be frustrating. Overall a great buy, but does have some bugs that need worked out within the GPS system.

Good product, could use more features
Good options for encuragements and preventions. Should add a option to add your own voice and words for the dog. Should also allow changing the times between the encouragement and prevention events. They seem too constant, if the collar is moving back towards the fence it constantly does encouragement whistles, which is probably just as annoying to the dog as a preventive buzz.

Clearly read return policy!!
Clearly read return policy!!! This is on me but to be fair, they could make the non-free return policy more apparent. The collar was way too bulky on my 20lb dog so I returned. I paid shipping and a return fee worth about $50. I wish I had been more vigilant of that.

It is inconceivable to me that you can spend close to $600 on a dog collar that does not include the charging brick. This is a very cheap and inconvenient oversight. If they need to be charged then they should have the charging brick.

Neither Collar, nor Correction is Strong Enough
The collar works for the most part, but it has two large flaws, One is that the collar itself is fragile, lasting less than a year before falling apart and becoming unusable. The plastic cracks, the charging port loosens, and the signal port loses it's cover somehow, so that water gets in and kills it. This happened with two different collars.
But the worst flaw is that the static correction is not strong enough for a strong dog. My dog just runs through the fence and goes on merry adventures. I can correct him multiple times, but he'll only come back when he feels like it. The collar might work for a more sensitive dog, but my dog is clearly willing to pay the price of a few mild shocks to go where he wants.

Unreliable
Unreliable. We have had the halo collar for a bit over a year. When it works from the companies end and the wifi is functioning then its a good collar. The biggest drawback is how often thy shut down the collar then send us an email saying we need to fill out a warranty form, and then sometime in the next few weeks we get a new collar. My problem is that we have an outdoor dog, and when the collar gets turned off we have to either tie up the dog, or keep getting him from the neighbors. Also one time the dog kept getting shocks from the collar the whole time, we didnt know what was up with the dog, but obviously he was very miserable due to the constant shocks. So its the unreliability that would make me suggest to try a different collar. I realize that things can sometimes break, but I would think that as soon as they get a notification that there is an error on their end, they should send out a collar ASAP and also refund that month's subscription fees where the collar wasnt working. Then it would seem more taken care of. But at this point I would not recommend it.

Best collars ever!
We moved to rural Ontario, Canada in 2021 to 3.3 acres of flat and wooded land. We tried almost all of the things - other than an underground "invisible" fence. We did tractive, we did static collars, we did tractive WITH static collars. The tractive and static collars worked fine, except you'd have to constantly be looking at the tractive app to see where they were AND then call them back by feedback or static. Let's face it - who has time for that?
7 months ago, we finally took the jump, when a very angry/aggressive man, who claimed to be our neighbor (we have never seen him before in the entire time we've been living here) said that our dogs were in his yard "again", and he threatened us on our doorbell camera, "tie your dogs up or lose them". So, of course we got the authorities involved, but we also got the Halo collars to keep our dogs SAFE. I am finally ready to properly rate the collars.
Can I just tell you the amount of PEACE and PEACE OF MIND the collars have given us. These collars have literally changed everything for us. We can see our dogs at all times (on the app) we are notified of warnings and feedback. We are no longer worried about threats to our dogs.
I do want to caveat that these collars instantly worked for us because we had previously trained our dogs on the static collars. So, our girls were well aware what the static/touch meant and instantly determined boundaries with no issues.
I am so thankful for Halo for keeping our girls safe and giving us peace of mind.

Buyer beware
Buyer beware! These collars have consistent system errors! The first collar burned my dogs neck which created anxiety and fear of the collar.
Then the collars stopped working all together
I have 2 large dogs and have replaced the collars 8 times and still system errors and not working!!!
If the company is reading this please solve the problem with these collars for me - am I getting used ones? I can't understand how this could continue to be a problem and this company still be in business.

**Halo Dog Collars: One Golden Retriever Breeder’s Venture Into a Never‑Ending Money Pit**
I usually keep 95% of my reviews positive because I believe highlighting great experiences is the best way to reward exceptional customer service. But this situation deserves to be documented.
I was one of Halo’s original customers. In 2021, with almost no company history to rely on, I took a gamble and paid $1,000 for a dog collar. As a responsible Golden Retriever breeder, I wanted to lead by example and keep my dogs safe, so I jumped on the Halo train early. That purchase included a lifetime subscription with no additional charges.
After buying it, I sent all my dogs to in‑boarding training and ended up using the collar only 1–2 times. Recently, my female had puppies and I kept one, so I pulled out my basically brand‑new collar. The software informed me it was no longer fully functional. Fine — I figured I’d just use the free collar upgrades included in my plan. Except the collar had “security issues” and wouldn’t work even with updates.
When I logged in and contacted customer service, I learned that my lifetime subscription had been conveniently “sunset.” Not certain what lifetime means to Halo but okay. My collar would no longer work due to security update problems conviently blamed on Microsoft. Being the Enterpise Architect for the State of Minnesota you are blaming another company for closing a security bug that your device is succeptable to? Come on already!!!!! I was informed I could “fix” all my problems by subscribing to a new monthly plan for $13, since my lifetime plan was conveniently discontinued. Once subscribed, I could upgrade to their newest Gen 5 collar — four generations newer — for $179.
Frustrating, but I accepted that I’d been hosed as an early adopter. I paid the $13, clicked the link to get my Gen 5 collar, and waited.
**More surprises:** instead of a Gen 5, I can get a Gen 4 for $100. Thank you sir, may I have another whipping.
I called again and asked if I could simply get the Gen 5 for $180 and consider it a $1,200 “ongoing education” — one I now get to pay for monthly, despite already having paid for a lifetime subscription on my Gen 1 for a cool $1000. The answer was no. I could get the Gen 4 now for $100, and later pay an additional $180 to upgrade to the Gen 5 if I wanted it to do that. A classic bait‑and‑switch maneuver I had been caught up in, hook line and sinker
As a breeder, I’m part of several large communities of pet owners and dog lovers, and I’m frequently asked for product recommendations — including for collars exactly like this. I was looking forward to trying this out and giving honest genuine feedback to my clients and peer community. Even if Halo had the best product on the market (which I can’t even vouch for after investing $1,200), I can’t recommend them based on these ABSOLUTE SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICES. But be certain I will definitely be getting the word on the street of my experience to these same people.
Where are the companies that value their original customers — the ones who took the risk early? I wasn’t expecting a free lunch. I went along with every hoop they asked me to jump through until the final straw broke this camel’s back.

Returned collar due to being defective…
Returned collar due to being defective or not functioning as advertised. Would constantly fail to connect to the app, would give my dog feedback when they weren’t near the perimeter. Shipped it back as they have a 90day money back guarantee. Except it’s not all your money. They kept $45 without a reason. I had the collar for 3 week… Do not buy expecting to get ALL of your money back as any other retailer.
