Its alright
Hegarty maths is very repetitive and not worthwhile if you already understand the maths. I can see its use to teach brand new topics however my school uses it for homework on topic we covered in lesson.
How this man won a teaching award? I have no idea.
Awful website. The video tutorials he gives are repetitive and dull with his monotone voice. He talks at half the speed a snail would and there are multiple bugs which I'll list later.
In addition the content in the videos that is supposed to help is useless as his examples in the videos are always easier than the actual quiz. Furthermore in the videos he will use a calculator for his working and when moving on to the quiz it says "Do NOT use a calculator". Why did you teach me how to do it with a calculator then?
The videos are low quality and boring. His explanations are often long, wordy and overall way more complicated than they need to be. In one video you would have questions where you are given values for A, B and C and you would have to use them to work out D. Colin Hegarty would drill on about how you have to do some complicated equation to find a value E which you would then have to use to find D. You would never need to do that, because the value of E was ALWAYS and will ALWAYS be equal to B. There was no need for the equation that takes five minutes.
In the quiz when you get an answer wrong it will ask if you've watched the video. Yes, Colin. I did watch the video but guess what, in your video you had questions that were 10 times easier. You didn't explain what to do for this question though or anything remotely similar.
What's more ridiculous is in some parts of the website you can see different topics in maths and it lists the average number of people that get the questions correct and the average number of people that get it correct on Hegarty maths. The Hegarty maths average is always lower.
When a teacher sets homework it will appear in a "My tasks" tab with a little number to show how many tasks there are. Want that number down to 0? Well good luck because Hegarty leaves that number at 1 constantly because of a stupid little revision task called MemRi that sits there constantly. It's not a task set by your teacher though. It will always be there, making it look like someone set work for you and wanting you to do it.
The methods used in the videos aren't consistent, one question he does one method, the next question uses a completely different one which would be fine but since he doesn't actually explain why you do anything it just leads to a confusing mess where you don't know what method should be done when and what step is next.
Colin Hegarty himself just isn't a good teacher either. His methods are long and overcomplicated, he does nothing to actually keep you engaged with him so you end up falling asleep or finding more interest in the spider on your wall, the questions he uses as examples are always easier than what he gives you to answer, his overall monotonous tone and slow paced talking makes it physically painful to watch anything of his and half the time he never actually explains why you do something. Why do you half x here? I don't know, you just have to do it. Most teachers actually explain why it works like that but not Hegarty, you just do it and most of the time that method leads you to the wrong answer anyway.
Bugs/Glitches/General features that don't make sense:
The "Quit assessment" button often disappears meaning if you get below a passing mark, you can't leave the quiz and restart it, you have to answer every question left on that quiz.
If you don't type an answer in EXACTLY HOW HEGARTY WANTS IT then it will count it as wrong. I once said x = 2.45, Hegarty said it was wrong and that the real answer was 2.5 and that I had to round it. Nowhere in the question did it say to round it to 1 decimal place. This happens with more complex equations to, if not typed in exactly the same way Hegarty wants it to then it is considered incorrect.
The "Percentage watched" counter for the videos is incorrect. The videos can be played at anywhere from 0.5 times speed up to 2 times speed. However, if you decide to speed it up to 2 times speed then you have just screwed up the percentage watched. It will consider it as you only watching 50% of the video because you watched it for half the video length. I watched the full thing, Hegarty. You just wanted me to watch it at a slower speed. Learn how to calculate a percentage properly.
Edited to add:
The website also makes no attempt to encourage you which just leads to anyone using it getting demotivated/upset. Get 100%? Brilliant we'll take the task off of your tasks list. Get 99%? Well you must be a complete failure and we're going to turn everything red because that's the colour of failure and you failed. Put an encouraging message or something. Just a simple "Oh no! You were close. How about you attempt it again?". Literally anything to actually encourage the people who are forced into using your website.
Also point out what's wrong.
I could genuinely teach maths better with sign language if I'd had both my hands amputated than Colin Hegarty ever could.
Terrible maths site.
First of all, the site has generally slow loading.
Second of all, the explanation video uses example questions that are significantly easier and more simple over the questions you receive. Also, you only receive 2 attempts to answer these usually overly complicated and hard questions. If you get both of these wrong, the site doesn't explain how to get the right answer, only showing what the right answer is...
Third: The video is so obnoxious and bland. The commentator (Mr. Hegarty) makes the video more boring from his voice alone... This makes is very hard to focus, when I could be doing something more fun.
This man makes millions from a poorly…
This man makes millions from a poorly designed website filled with useless videos that I could make in my sleep. The interface crashes almost every time you click on a task and every question that is incorrect, the system relays you back to the video, not understanding that the question itself is wrong. Overall, this website can be achieved by simply giving students written homework, but due to the laziness of math's departments schools pay thousands each year to acquire a license to this god forsaken website when the budget should be spend on something more constructive and helpful.
very good for education
Hegarty maths is the worst…
Hegarty maths is the worst maths website in o ever existed in human history the people the made it should be disappointed in their self like they are just trying to make a child Yeet his homework book across his bedroom wich I have done so to the people that made the website go and delete ur crap website
My poor Hegarty maths experience
It should be zero stars, thats all I can say about it. Long boring videos, wrong answers when you don't type in the EXACTLY right question... Should be better...
Unacceptable
mr hegarty is a despicable man. the website is awful
hegarty maths is unbased
mr hegarty says in each video that he wants to eliminate the jewish race. he says that he wants to send them to camps in southern poland.
bad.
it wont let you use your proper keyboard on your phone and you have to retake the whole task if you get 1 wrong
Please god help me
Please god help me the videos are like 5 mins but it feels like 5 hours

I cannot even do my maths because the teacher on the video explains it so bad.Really bad app. If you are stuck and you watch a video to help you the guy takes a million years blabbering all over the place.
Awful
Does nothing helpful except explain nothing and waste your time with nonsense
absolute dogsh*t =
absolute dogsh*t. i cannot even describe how bad this pile of junk is.
Hegart ruiner of children.
mr hegarty has gone criminally insane. this website is his legacy, his final wish of hatred towards those who have wronged him so. long live the hegart!
And so it is said, the hegart shall fall from kingdom come and bring forth a terror of the quadratic formula upon the weak
yikes......
Its not too bad
Hegarty maths is good. It's not amazing, but its not too bad. I don't like the fact that if I dont lay an answer out in a specific way e.g the website wants 2=x and I write x=2. I also don't like how if I don't get 100% in a quiz, it remains in my tasks. Another thing I'm not to keen on, is that the videos are irrationally long, and slightly complicated as well. I do like the fact I can message my teacher if I don't understand something etc. I like that I can re take the quiz and try and get a higher score. Its also easy to use, which is a bonus. All in all, Hegarty maths is good, but its not some ground-breaking technology.
I didn't think maths could get worse
Hegarty Maths is terrible.
He speaks do quietly in the videos, I have to turn the volume up to almost full. Then he overcomplicates things, like how you need to imagine a plus sign next to positive numbers. And then if you don't type the answer to something in a way that the website expects but the answer is right, it marks it wrong!
Also, teachers can see exactly what you're doing and how long you spend on it, so you can get told off for spending a short amount of time on it because it might look like you're cheating.
I only rated 2 stars because the layout of the website is very simple and easy to use, however logging in is a nightmare. You put in your school name, which I understand. But you also need your full name and birth date for some reason...
Honestly, MyMaths is way better. It's easier to understand and it's actually a little bit helpful.

What’s with all the bad reviews I personally think that hegarty maths helped me out a lot. I think the people that’s writing the reviews are 10 year olds. Whoever is reading this I think you should give hegarty maths a go.
