Elizabeth and the team at JCP have been professional and helpful in the managing of our property. They have responded to my queries and ensured I have been kept informed of things as needed.

I have friends that rented with JCP and visited the house frequently, there were constant issues with the house that were not resolved, and the landlord and estate agent were unhelpful and uncooperative, especially during the move out period.

AVOID. The worst experience in renting a property I have ever encountered. The property was in a terrible state when we arrived, featuring heavily stained sofas etc. After an extended period of time raising complaints with the estate agent, some issues were resolved, but mostly not. After we left the property, the landlord tried footing us with a bill claiming our entire deposit.

The letting agent provided no help to us over this dispute and couldn't get in touch with the landlord for months, apparently. Through MyDeposits we were able to prevent the landlord taking all of our money.

I visited my friends multiple times who were renting from JCP, every time there were numerous issues with the house and repairs that hadn't been dealt with for several months.

I would strongly advise others to think very carefully before renting through this agency, based on my experience.
When we offered the full asking price for the property, the agent told us there was another interested party and asked whether we wanted to increase our offer. Under pressure to secure somewhere to live, we raised our offer by £100. We were then told the supposed other party had increased their offer again. When we refused to go any higher, the other interest suddenly disappeared. The whole process left us feeling uncomfortable and questioning how the situation had been handled.

On moving in, the property was in far worse condition than expected. It was dirty, several pieces of furniture were broken or unusable, and we even found rubbish behind the bed. Some essential items—like oven racks and the dishwasher—were missing or not working. It took around six months before certain issues were acknowledged at all. Discovering that the carbon monoxide alarm did not function was particularly alarming and made us feel that tenant safety was not being prioritised.

The moving-out process was equally frustrating. Despite repeatedly asking about our deposit, we were told the landlord was “not available,” which stalled the process until we escalated it through the deposit protection scheme. During that process, we received claims from the landlord that we strongly disagreed with, including allegations about furniture disposal when, from our perspective, the item had only been moved between rooms. The total amount claimed was significantly higher than the deposit itself, which we found extremely unreasonable.

Based on all of this, our experience with this agency was overwhelmingly negative, and I personally would not rent through them again.

Elizabeth has been extremely supportive and efficient and has been a pleasure to work with over the course of nearly ten years.

Francis is thoughtful, kind and attentive. He is considerate and fair to both seller and buyer. He has an unparalleled knowledge of, and insight into, the Oxford residential property sales market. He gives great advice and I trust his opinion implicitly. He's a joy to work with.

I recommended a JCP property to my son & student friends as the pictures looked great.
The property was not very clean & had several issues right from the start.
The landlord and Estate agent were not very helpful throughout and although the property was left cleaner than when they moved in a full refund of deposit was not received.
Would not recommend.

Terrible experience for my daughter and her friends in renting a student property!
House didn't include most of the furniture shown on the ad/ marketing video e.g. desks, chair, chest of drawers, dining table!
House was shabby and had leaks and electrical faults on arrival. Took several months (over winter) to get heating/hot water working reliably.
Landlord was slow to respond to issues.

Had an end of tenancy clean and gardening done and left the place better than on arrival.
Landlord tried to withhold almost £2000 of the deposit at the end of tenancy, claiming 'damage' and sent what was probably a dodgy mate from a maintenance company to concoct an 'estimate' for 'repairs' which was basically a quote for redecorating the whole house - something which a decent landlord should be doing as part of regular maintenance between tenancies anyway.

JCP didn't reply to emails when we tried to dispute/discuss things and just said 'take it to the deposit arbitration service' which we've since found out from others is their standard response at the end of most tenancies.
Thankfully the adjudicator found in our favour and we got most of deposit back.
What a waste of everyone's time. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!

Really appreciated the JCP advisor's open and flexible approach to showing me an interesting property, focussing on the needs I had previously outlined.
